Guide Lines for Writing Thesis/Project
Please follow the following structure as a general outline for writing your thesis/project.
General arrangement of thesis/project:
 Acknowledgements
 Table of contents
 List of figures
 List of tables
 Abstract
Including key words- abstract must contain background & objectives of study, statement
of the problem, methodology, main findings in on less than 1 page
 Acronyms
Chapter 1: Introduction: Purpose and Significance of the Study/project
In the first chapter, clearly state what the purpose of the study is and explain the study's
significance. The significance is addressed by discussing how the study adds to the theoretical
body of knowledge in the field and the study's practical significance for professionals in the field
being examined. It is especially critical that this chapter be well developed with a clearly defined
purpose. Points to be included here are:
 Introduction about study/project area
 Objectives-general and specific objectives
 Statement of the problem and its magnitudes
 List of research questions which enable to achieve specific objectives
 Significance of the study
 Delimitation and limitation of the study
 Methods & means/instruments of the research/project
 Scope
Chapter 2: Review of the Literature
 Literature review
The purpose of the study should suggest some theoretical framework to be explained further in
this chapter. Give theoretical foundations of the problem to be solved. The literature review thus
describes and analyzes previous research on the topic. This chapter, however, should not merely
string together what other researchers have done. Rather, you should discuss and analyze the
body of knowledge with the ultimate goal of determining what is known and is not known about
the topic. This determination leads to your research questions and/or hypotheses.
 Review of the components and theories used in the project

Here you should review all the theoretical facts of the principles, components and theories you
used in setting up your project. For example if you have used transistors, operational amplifiers;
you should write the facts about these components. And you should write the most important
formulas that you have used in this section.

Chapter 3: Methodology
This chapter describes and justifies the data gathering method used. This chapter also outlines
how you analyzed your data. Begin by describing the method you chose and why this method
was the most appropriate. In doing so, you should cite reference literature about the method.
Next, detail every step of the data gathering and analysis process. You can describe also the
model you want to employ to analyze and solve the problem.

Chapter 4: System Design and analysis (Model, Simulation)

This chapter addresses the results from your data analysis only. This chapter does not include
discussing other research literature or the implications of your findings. You have to address the
results of the tests of hypotheses. You then discuss post analysis results. Tables and/or figures
should be used to illustrate and summarize all numeric information.

Chapter 5: Discussion (Conclusion) and recommendations

The purpose of this chapter is not just to reiterate what you found but rather to discuss what your
findings mean in relation to the theoretical body of knowledge on the topic and your profession.
Begin by discussing your findings in relation to the theoretical framework introduced in the
literature review. In other words, what are the study's practical implications? This chapter
outlines the limitations of the study as well. Areas for future research then are proposed.

Headings Main text headings (A- level/heading-1) should be centered and typed in bold capitals.
Major side headings (B-level/ heading-2) should be bold lowercase letters. Sub headings (C- level/
heading-3) should be light font, lower case letters. Minor sub headings (D-level) should be light
font italics.
All figure captions should be in the same font as the main text, preferably at one size smaller. The
details of thesis layout should be written carefully. They should be one and a half space(1.5)
typed on A4 paper with a left hand & right hand margin of 2.5 cm. top and bottom with 4cm&
2.5 cm respectively. Equations should be carefully edited. Please take a typical text book and see
carefully how it is wholly formatted and follow it in your editing.

Every source that is used must be included in a reference list.
