This AP course covers the Mechanics part of AP Physics C curriculum. Students will be well prepared for the corresponding AP exam
in May. Laboratory investigations and classroom discussions are extensively utilized to aid student understand of the concepts of
physics. Calculus is often applied to solve problems in this course.

Breakdown of grades per Quarter:
Homework (0%) : Homework in AP class is required and is through an online system ‘Quest’. Students will be given assignments for
every unit either using online system called Quest or through hard copies. It does not carry any weightage in the Power School grade
book. Instead, students are given opportunities to earn extra credits when they solve the problems on the board. Students should
also file all their HWs. I might ask them to bring the proof of HW to qualify for test corrections, in addition to the online Quest.
Students should talk to me if they have problems accessing the internet outside of class, in which case alternate arrangement
will be made.
If students are unable to solve problems and understand, they should avail my help. I am available to help them everyday during
th
8 hr. This will help me document the fact that the student is doing his/her part and could earn test correction opportunities.
Assessments (80%): Assessments include group and/or individual classroom assignments, tests, quizzes.
- 60% of total grades will directly come from Unit Tests.
- Participation, Quizzes and Inquiry based classroom activities will contribute to 20% of the grades.
Lab Work (20%): Students will engage in 1 or 2 Laboratory activities per topic. Engagement in lab, Collection & Analysis of data and
Completion of Lab journal are all critical for earning full points in this category.
Breakdown of grades per Semester:
Quarter 1 – 40%
Quarter 2 – 40%
Final Exams – 20%

Class Policies:
Attendance: Students are expected to arrive on time to the class. To be successful in academic and professional endeavors students
must learn to be punctual. It will be the responsibility of a student to make up for missed work that results from unexcused tardiness
or absence.
Cell Phones: Cell Phones are not allowed during class time unless directed by the teacher. Cell phones should remain inside bags
all the time. If found outside, it will be placed in the cell phone basket in the classroom. If a cell phone hinders with student
learning, it will be confiscated and given to the grade level principal.
Grading Policies- If a student does not show signs of participation, which includes writing class notes, taking active roles in group
activities, and doing class work when it is assigned, it may affect their participation grades. This is graded without prior notice since
the expectation is that the students be active and engaged during the class hour all the time. So if the student is not feeling well on
a certain day and cannot participate, they can come and talk to me about it before the class begins or send me an email. T
Test corrections – Test corrections are offered to all students but they should have completed all the class and home assignments in
order to qualify for it. Students have to demonstrate that they got the concepts by identifying their mistakes and correcting them
using the form given on my website. Additionally, they will need to take time to meet with me to explain the mistakes to me in
person. This will need to be done within a week of receiving the tests back. I do not collect the test corrections. Students can earn
max of up to 50 % of the lost points depending on whether they are able to explain to me well or not.
Late Work – Late work may or may not be accepted depending on the student’s situation for lateness.
Discipline expectations and reporting – Students are expected to behave respectfully with each other and with the teacher. If a
student behavior disturbs learning for oneself and/or others, I will talk them 2 times individually before calling home and/or
schedule a conference with parents/guardians. If the student’s behavior does not improve even after that it will be formally
reported to the grade level office for further actions.
Teacher’s responsibility – I will provide a safe learning environment to all my students. I will provide students with resources that
help them succeed as learners.
Student’s responsibility – Each student is responsible for his/her actions. Each student is responsible for maintaining their Class
notes, Lab notes and all other assignments. Each student should monitor his or her progress in Power School.
Food in class – No food or drink , other than water, tea or coffee is allowed during class because of a high number of students with
food related allergies.
