The method epplies wo aggregates having a nominal size of not greater than 63.0 mm and having at least 80% by mass retained on a 6.70 mm sieve. The method makes reference to a particle size disuibution procedure which is required for determination of flakiness index. ried a 2 REFERENCED DOCUMENTS The documeats below are referred to in this ae ‘Standard: AS 1141 Methods for sampling and testing 11412 Method 2: Basic testing equipment 1141.11 Method 11: Particle size distbution by dry sieving 1161.12 Method 12; Material finer thaa 75 ym in aggragates (by washing) 1152 ‘Specification for test sieves 1681 ° Electrically heated ovens in which flammable volatiles occur—Type 1 ovens 3. DEFINITIONS. Fer the purpose of this Soendard, the definitions below apply: 3.1 Mean dimension—the mein of the smallest sieve apermre through which the + panicle passes and che largest sieve on which the particle is remained. 33 Flaky particle—a particle with a least dimension (chickness) less then 0.6 of its dimension. : men 33 Flakduess index—the percentage by mass of flaky particles. CO NOTE: for al] shupe factors the relative effect berween size fractions is volumetric and not 2 ‘gravimetse bat, in practice, toting and calealations are cazried out on a ‘per mass’ basis, This 7 does not introduce significant error unless the test sample contains particles of markedly ‘different densities. 4 APPARATUS The following apparanus complying with the relevant requirements of AS 1141.2 is required: (2) Sample dividers (riffle splinters) () Balance Balance of adequate cepacity, having 2 Limit of performance not exceeding +5 g. (©) Oven Thermosatically controlled oven to operate at a temperamre of 105°C to 110°C (see Note on test) NOTE: If the stones in the aggregate are precoated with « precoating material the oven should be a Type 1 oven complying with AS 1681. (4) Slotted sieves Slotted sieve sizes with rectangular apertares as shown in Table 1. ‘Akamustively, a thickness guuge with apermures conforming to the dimensions shown in Figure 1 may be used. It is usual for a thickness gauge to be used for particles ce) larger then 265 mum. conrnIaHT SSeS 22/02 "99 MON 0:49 PTE/REN iY fps ao op:47 «= HAL 2 97861197 sMEC vee SMEC amys o iran wave as ans 1995 2 ’ (e) Steves Slave sizes as requited in necordance with AS 1152. “SQ Steve brushes (@) Dishes and trays () Optional equipment: () Sieve shaker (i) Vibeating table or vibrating sieve shaker, baving a high lateral and vertical TABLE 1 SLOTTED SIEVES © These widths are 04 Himes che meme of the Houtng slave apertsres used for the detcemtzation of the sien of periies, t Te rsa oper eof pec se et 5 PROCEDURE 5.1 Particle size distribution ‘The particle size dintbotion aball be determined as follows: (@) Obtain a representative test portion of material.
