MOVIE: TARZAN

The movie Tarzan was about Tarzan who grows up living in a jungle with a family of
gorillas. Tarzan became a strong young boy with a penchant for mimicking animal noises. It was
difficult for him to adopt the skills of a gorilla though the way he walks, moves and communicates
looked like a real gorilla. Tarzan acquire the language used by the gorillas.

In the movie, we can relate it in the word “language.” Gorillas have their way of
communicating with each other, which Tarzan adopted, and were different from humans. When
Tarzan finally met a human being like him it was hard for him to talk but they understood each
other by using the “language contact.” Later on, Tarzan learned the real “language” by the help
of Jane, his love interest. It was called “language” because he learned the requirements for
identifying a means of communication as a language: system of rules, sound system and
vocabulary (BOOK, 2016).
COMPREHENSION QUESTIONS

1. Can animals communicate?

Animals can communicate but not as intelligent as humans does. Animals
communicate through sounds. Wolves communicate through howling, dogs
communicate through barking, fishes communicate through farting and etc.
2. Can monkeys produce language?
Based on the book entitled TITLE by AUTHOR, only human beings were able to
produce a language. Monkeys weren’t human beings ergo, moneys cannot produce
language.
3. What is the difference between language acquisition and language learning?
Language acquisition is what people in a community acquire while growing up
where they can understand each other by the use of a particular language. Language
learning is a process of learning a language that people learn from studying in a school or
studying another language in his/her own.
4. What is the difference between first language and second language?
First language is our mother tongue. It is the language our family taught to us. The
language we first spoke. Second language is another language we learn aside from our
mother tongue. People can learn or study his/her second language by enrolling into a
school our studying in his/her own, it can be online or reading books.
5. What happens after a language comes into contact with another?
When a language comes into contact with another it will be called language
contact. Language contact usually happens when for example a Japanese talk or ask
something in a Filipino. They cannot understand each other if they use their mother
tongue but if they use the language slowly with gestures they will be able to understand
each other. The process is called language contact.
