I am so excited to have you in my class this year!
Course overview
● ​ Students will expand reading,
writing, and speaking skills, following
the Common Core State Standards
(CCS). The CCSS are broken up into
the following categories with a focus
on College & Career Readiness:
Reading- Literature, Informational
Texts, & Foundational Skills; Writing;
Speaking & Listening; and Language.
It sounds boring, but I am determined
to make it as fun and engaging as
possible! :)
Homework/Assignments
★ It is the ​student’s responsibility​ to get
homework completed, turned in on
time, with name and date on it.
★ If the student is having difficulty they
may advocate for themselves ​before
the assignment is due.
Late work
★ For each day an assignment is late
10% will taken off.
★ Late work will not be accepted 2
weeks (10 school days) or more past
due.
★ If the student has an excused absence
I will accept it the day they return.

Attendance/Absent Work
★ Students are expected to be in class
on time, everyday. However, life
happens and sometimes they must
miss a day. #keepsickkidshome
★ If your student does miss a day and it
is excused, it is their responsibility to
ask Ms. Perez what they missed
within 2 days of their return.
★ Students will have one week to turn in
their absent work otherwise it will be
considered late.
Extra Credit
★ Available to all
★ Given at Ms. Perez’s discretion
★ Cannot improve a failing grade
Grading:
Class grades will be computed based on this scale:

A+ 97% & Above C 76.9 – 73% Assignments (in-class) 30%

A 96.9 – 93% C- 72.9 – 70% Projects 20%

A- 92.9 – 90% D+ 69.9 – 67% Participation/Organization 15%

B+ 89.9 – 87% D 66.9 – 63% Homework 15%

B+ 89.9 – 87% D- 62.9 – 60% Tests/Quizzes 15%

B- 82.9 – 80% F 59.9% & Below Reading (100 mins a week) 5%

C+ 79.9 – 77%

★ 1st offense:​ Warning (students will
need to meet with the teacher to
discuss the warning)
★ 2nd offense:​ Lunch Detention (a slip is
given for parents to sign)
★ 3rd offense: ​Student will be sent to a
Buddy Teacher & Apology Letter
assigned (parent signature required)
★ 4th offense:​ After school Detention
(parent phone call home)
★ If the misbehavior continues, a
parent-teacher-student conference will
be requested & referrals may be
assigned. If you have any concerns,
please contact me promptly to discuss
behavior concerns- I much rather
prevent issues than give consequences.

is of great value and resource to me. The more I know and understand
your child, the more effective I can be as their teacher. I would appreciate
your participation in some “Parent/Guardian Homework.” If you could
please write me a letter introducing your child.

You might want to include a brief biography, problems, special abilities,

fear, strengths, weaknesses, and past school experiences. You might also
want to tell me about your expectations for this school year: from me, your
child, and the school. Include any information that you want me to keep in
mind while I work with your child.

I am looking forward to reading your letters and will respond to any issues
