Niones Poultry Farm is a sole proprietorship owned by Ernesto F. Niones and it is located
at Brgy. Diit Tacloban City. It is a commercial broiler poultry farm and a contract grower under a
private entity who provides the farmers with the inputs (feed, chicks, medication, etc.) except for
the farms where the chickens are raised and the waste they produce. It is a very accessible place
and it offer a service to a private entity or the processor that assist in the increasing demand for
chicken meat. In a healthy economy, independent farmers can sell their goods on an open market
where there are multiple buyers and where they can negotiate prices for their goods. But for
poultry growers like Niones Poultry Farm, open and competitive markets haven’t existed in a
long time.
Currently, Niones Poultry Farm is using a Conventional Broiler Houses where broiler
farmers grow their chicks in traditional open poultry houses system without too much technology
involved. The processors determine the number of broilers to be raised by growers and it will be
harvest and pick up by them when it reaches its market weight. The business is being paid based
on performance or the number of harvested chicken.
