In the American system, general high schools keep all students in the same
school till the end of secondary level irrespective of their aptitudes and
add vocational programs to the academic curriculum differentiating their
learning paths. According to Gasskov (2000), more than 60 percent of
high school students in the United States enroll in at least one vocational
subject. Variants of this system are in vogue in other countries like S weden
and the United Kingdom.
