COURSE POLICY
1. No eating or drinking is allowed during class. Turn all electronic devices off before you
enter.
2. Attendance: Attendance will be taken at the beginning of every class. To avoid class
disruption, the college policy on tardiness (2009-2011 Undergraduate Bulletin pg 209)
will be enforced. This means that no more than 5 absences in total will be allowed
(excused absences are included in this number). Students who exceed the number of
allowable absences will be dropped from the course. Students who arrive later than
when attendance taking is complete, will be counted absent. You will only be allowed
to leave class during lecture in case of emergency or if discussed with the lecturer
beforehand.
3. Grading Policy: Print your last name on your work. Failure to do so will results in a
grade of zero. Work neatly at all times. Clearly mark your final solution. Final,
solutions with incorrect/missing units will automatically receive a 50% grade reduction.
Numerical solutions that are incorrect by more than an order of magnitude will be given
a grade of zero.
4. Homework: Homework problems with solutions will be assigned every week. These
will NOT be graded. It is the responsibility of the students to work through these
problems in preparation for the weekly quizzes. Homework will be posted on
Blackboard under ‘Course Documents’. It is your responsibility to make sure that you
have access to Blackboard.
5. Quizzes: You should expect to write a 10 minute in-class quiz every Wedn. lecture
based on the week’s homework. During the second half of the end of the semester, the
in-class weekly quiz will be replaced by a weekly take-home quiz that will be posted on
Blackboard the night (by 7:30pm) before they are due in class by 9:30am. There is to
be no discussion or collaborative work allowed for solving the take-home quizzes
though you are welcome to use MATLAB or EXCEL if you would like.
