Teaching methodology Teaching and learning will be based on lectures, seminars, small group
activities and one-to-one tutorials. It will be developed around case
study materials; work in the library, discussions and research

Students will also be supported to locate relevant books, periodicals and

other relevant material within the school’s library (and within The
National Library) and critically evaluate a range of literature and other
sources appropriate and relevant to academic study, to think critically
and analytically.

Assesment There are two assessments for this module: an essay (week 8) and a
portofolio presented at the end of the module

Aims and objectives: This module will introduce students to the concept of visuality and provide a basic kit
of ideas and methods which have been used in visual arts. The module will enable students to gain practical
knwoledge as well as knowldege of the history and theories of art and design. Students will study a range of
methods of analysing images and examine the structural and expressive qualities of particular example of
art, graphic imagery, illustraion, photographs, advertising and other visual forms.

Outcomes: On completion of this module students will be able to:

- analyse visual forms and demosntrate awareness of the context in which they gain meaning and
value
- apply theory in the analysis and evaluation of visual forms
- to make effective use of scholarly conventions in written work and present a portofolio which meets
the appropriate stanrads of presentation
- create their own protofolio of work during the seminars and workshops in classroom
