TESTING PROCEDURE OF DUAL PLATE CHECK VALVES

PROCEDURE NO. : Page 01 of 02

REV.: DATE :

SCOPE: This procedure covers the pressure testing of Dual plate check Valve.

REFERANCE STANDARDS: API 598, ASME B16.34, ISO 5208,API 6D,API 594

TESTING RIG:
The test rig shall be of such a design that the valves mounted are not subjected to any external
stresses, which result in varying the test results.

TEST FLUID:
The test fluid shall be tap water containing water soluble oil or rust inhibitor with temperature not
exceeding 38°C. Chloride content of water is to be checked once in three months which shall not
exceed 30ppm by mass (API 6D). For low pressure test the test medium shall be Air/Gas.

PRESSURE GUAGES:
Pressure gauges shall be of accuracy ±1.5% of full scale reading (API 6D). The gauges shall be
calibrated at intervals as decided by the organization.
The test pressure gauges shall have a range such that test pressure is within 25 to 75 percent of the
full range.

TESTS REQUIRED: Following are the test required in dual plate check valve,

1) Shell test- Hydro

2) High Pressure closure test – Hydro
3) Low Pressure closure test – Hydro

PRESSURE TEST PROCEDURE:

 HYDROSTATIC SHELL TEST:
For shell test valve shall be in partial open condition, Retainer (in retainer valves) tightened and
both the ends are blanked with testing flanges. Hydrostatic pressure is applied from one end to the
rated pressure for the applicable test duration. Throughout this, supply pressure shall be isolated
and shall be stabilized prior to test duration. Test pressure shall be monitored during the test
duration by using pressure gauges.
This test is carried to detect the leakage / seepage from the boundary of walls of body, bonnet,
body- retainer joint(in retainer valves ) Any leakage / seepage from the body will be cause of
rejection and no casting leakages are acceptable during the test duration.

 HIGH PRESSURE CLOSURE SEAT TEST:-

This test is carried out to check the leakage of valve from seat at rated seat test pressure. This test is
carried out in fully closed valve and pressure is applied from back side of the disc and in opposite to
the flow direction. Leakage can be monitored from other open end. Throughout this, supply
pressure shall be isolated and shall be stabilized prior to test duration. Test pressure shall be
monitored during the test duration by using pressure gauges.
Allowable seat leakage shall be as per applicable testing standard.
No visible leakage is acceptable from the casting of disc during the test duration and at rated test
pressure.
After testing valve shall be cleaned and dried and shall blanked with end protectors.

LOW PRESSURE CLOSURE SEAT TEST:-

Low-pressure seat test is carried out at 25% of the rated seat test pressure.
.This test is carried out to check the leakage of valve from seat. This test is carried out in fully closed
Valve and pressure is applied from back side of the disc and in opposite to the flow direction.
Leakage can be monitored from other open end. Throughout this, supply pressure shall be isolated
and shall be stabilized prior to test duration. Test pressure shall be monitored during the test
duration by using pressure gauges.
Allowable seat leakage shall be as per applicable testing standard.
No visible leakage is acceptable from the casting of the disc during the test duration and at
rated low seat test pressure.
Test fluid for Low-pressure closure test is water in dual plate check valves.
After testing valve shall be cleaned, drained and dried and shall blanked with
End protectors.
