SECTION A: DIRECTED WRITING

[35 marks]
Time suggested: 45 minutes]

Recently, a new programme under your school’s English Panel was introduced which is
called the ‘Highly Immersive Programme’. Its aim is to increase the usage of English
language not just among students but all members of the school community per se. In
conjunction with the launching of the ‘HIP’ programme, students were asked to contribute
writings for the English Society’s monthly bulletin. As a concerned student, you have
decided to write an article on ways to improve English.

Use the following notes to write your article:

o Read anything in English


o Learn a new word everyday
o Watch English movies
o Listen to English songs
o Listen/watch newscast in English
o Text your SMS in English
o Start a blog in English
o Write about short notes in English
o Be friends with an English dictionary
o Speak English whenever you can

When writing the article, you should remember:

o To give a title
o To give your name as a writer
o To use all the notes given
o To provide an ending
o To add two (2) other points of your own

For your article, you will receive up


to 15 marks for the format and
content points and up to 20 marks
for the quality of you writing.
SECTION B: CONTINOUS WRITING
[50 marks]
[Time suggested: one hour]

Write a composition of about 350 words on one of the following topics…

1. “Truly Malaysian”. Describe what this means to you.

2. “Teenagers today are only interested in entertainment”. Do you agree ?

3. What can we do to save the environment ?

4. Write a story that ends with … “and so I became a better person”.

5. If you were given a chance to be anybody, who would you want to be and why ?
