1. AIMS

The main aims of this lesson are to:

 Recap on Parabola Rectangle Method.
 Introduce Parabola Locus Method.

 Begin question based on Locus Method.

2. MAIN LEARNING OUTCOME & CORRESPONDING ASSESSMENT

Learning Outcomes (LOs) Assessment of LOs

At the end of this lesson the students will be (Note: each LO has an assessment. Include a variety

previous lesson. Collect homework.

Recap on topic; Rectangle method.

1. Draw a rectangle enclosing the

parabola.
2. Draw a centerline on the
vertex.
3. Divide each side into 5 parts (or
4 but be consistent with all the
sides).
4. If the dimensions don't divide
nicely, use a construction to
divide the side into equal
widths.
5. Draw vertical parallel lines at
each division.
6. Draw lines from the divisions
on the vertical side to the
vertex.
7. Number the lines.
8. Where diagonal line 1 crosses
parallel line 1, you get a point
on the parabola.
9. Repeat for the other lines to
get a collection on points. O/N
10. Connect dots using French
curve/freehand curve. Demonstrate in 30 seconds how to G
construct an ellipse.

1. The parabola is defined as the
locus of a point which moves
so that it is always the same
distance from a fixed point
(called the focus) and a given
line (called the directrix).
2. Mark points on axis of equal
distance from Vertex.
3. Using compass, transfer
distance from Directrix to the
line, place point on focus and
