Engineering is a scientific field and job that involves taking our scientific understanding of the
natural world and using to invent, design and build things to solve problems and achieve
practical goals.

b) What are some example of developments in engineering?


Roads, bridges, cars, planes, machines, tools, processes and computers.

c) What are some places where engineers work?


Some engineers works in an office environment, some works in industrial plants, others may
spend time outdoors at construction sites and other engineers travel extensively to plants or
works sites here or abroad.

d) Which were the first categories of engineering and which are the new ones?
Old: Mechanical. chemical, civil, electrical
new: Computer, software, nanotechnology, mechatronic

e) What are the skills required for aspiring engineers?


 They will need at least a bachelor's degree more probably a masters degree from an
engineering school. besides a proper educational background and relevant technical
experience.
 They will need to demonstrate many soft skills, knowledge of the core subject,
application of knowledge, analytical and creative thinking and familiarity with industry
standards in order to get and keep a good job.
