Schneider Electric - Easergy –PS100 presentation – Feb 2012 v4 2

Why PS 100 ?

● The “PS 100” unit supplies back-up operating power for :

• MV switchgear electrical mechanism ( motors and coils )
• Transmission equipment ( e.g radio )
• Protection relays , Fault passage indicators or others IEDs
• And all others devices in MV/LV substations (LV breakers, PLC concentrator..)

● The “PS 100” has been designed for supplying power in distributed
architectures ( SC110A, Flair 23VD, VIP410, Sepam…) to fit in LV cubicles of SM6,
Premset * …
* New MV switchgear range (ex- Matrix project)

● The “PS 100” will offer a new elegant solution in application in current MV/LV
substations without RTU ( Remote Terminal Unit)
- is integrated in Advan6 wave 3
- in repetitive MV/LV substation with SM6, MH 24+, FBX & RM6 (3 or 4
functions)

Autonomy
● Autonomy up to 24 hours
● Depend on
● Mainly the permanent Load (PL)
● the “Energy backup” (Pb)
● The type of battery (38Ah, 24Ah)
● Temperature
● Battery age
● The non permanent load is estimated
to 16 Open&Close cycles of
Switchgear. (Ps)

I.e : 4 operating Sepam10 (4x8=32 W)

allows 12 hours of autonomy

● PS100 Autonomy

Schneider Electric - Easergy – 01/2013 /PS100 Introduction 11

PS100 supply capacity
● 3 examples of maximum number of
devices for 1 PS100: ● 1 PS100 supplies up to 2 protection
relays or 16 switches

CB with Switch with ATS with 2 SW

protection Fault or 2CB
relay and detector and ● With 3 or 4 protection relays, it is
motorization motorization
recommended to use 2 PS100 with
2 4 0 redundancy
1 15 0
0 8 1 ● With an Automatic Transfer Switch
device, it is recommended to use a
second PS100 for protection relays.

● For more than 4 Protection relays ,

PS100 isn’t usable

Benefits
Optimized battery backup
● Only one battery to simplify the replacement
● The PS100 needs only one battery, simplifying replacement vs traditional
backup power supplies require a set of 2 or 4 batteries to produce 12V or
48V, with complicated replacement and adjustment of the battery pack.
● Battery can be purchased easily, anywhere in the world : sealed lead 12V
battery ,10 years life

● To prevent power network cuts

● Enables output voltage backup in case of cuts up to 24 hours

● PS100 protects and optimizes the battery duration

● Ensures its charge with a regulated and temperature-compensated charger
● Checks the battery and prevents the battery deep discharge level
● Measures battery ageing and alarms before battery end of life

Schneider Electric - Easergy – 01/2013 /PS100 Introduction 13

Benefits
High availability

● PS100 is robust to the harsh environment of electrical substation

● Reliability is a key point for Electrical substations :
Insulation: 10 kV, - 40°C to +70°C operating temperature...
● Electronic protection against over voltage, overloads and short circuit
● Automatic restart after fault

● Additional “Energy back up” to restart the installation after a prolonged network
cut
● an optional Energy back up can be enabled with a local push button to provide
energy for restarting the protection relays and electrical control of MV
switchgears at installation restarting.
● Forecast backup reservation : 300 W - 1mm

● Modbus communication port forwards monitoring data to allow optimized

maintenance operations.

● A limitation, dedicated for radio units, is set up to avoid the battery deep discharge

Benefits
Redundancy to increase availability and power

Power supply paralleling

- more availability

- or additional power
