SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA GAS COMPANY

HOUSELINE STEP-DOWN REGULATOR LOCATION REQUIREMENTS

The undersigned acknowledges and agrees to Southern California Gas Company (SoCalGas) installation requirements
related to location of the customer step-down (pounds to inches) regulators on 2-PSI systems. Builder will receive
SoCalGas approval for location of the step-down regulator prior to finalizing plumbing and construction plans. Builder
will provide plumbing and construction plans to SoCalGas and will notify SoCalGas at least ten days in advance of
installation of customer natural gas houseline piping to coordinate the location of the step-down regulators. Any
deviation from these locations not approved by SoCalGas will result in the gas service being left off.

Acceptable Locations for Regulators, Shut-off Valves, Manifolds and Pressure Tap Outlets

• Builder shall install step-down regulators in ventilated locations that have unrestricted access and provide
adequate room to work (2-foot clearance front and sides, 6 inch minimum clearance from ceiling). Regulators
must be reached safely from a maximum 7-foot stepladder (regulator should be no higher than 9 feet off the
ground).

• Builder shall install a shut-off valve within 1-foot of the regulator upstream and a union downstream to allow
the regulator to be inspected, maintained and/or removed if repair or replacement is required.

• Builder shall provide an accessible pressure tap outlet within 1-foot on the low-pressure side of the regulator/or
manifold and a minimum 2-foot clearance around the tap to enable SoCalGas to conduct necessary testing and
service.

• Examples of suitable locations provided the above guidelines are followed:

1. Garage
2. Water Heater Closet
3. Utility Room
4. Outside wall of the unit it is serving.
5. Attic*

*Builder shall provide access for attic installations no higher than 10 feet or a built in drop down ladder
must be installed. The manifold should be located at the attic access to allow personnel to easily and safely
reach the manifold from a 7-foot stepladder (see access requirements above), in order to avoid having to
install a catwalk and work platform as required by Cal-OSHA 3270.

• Step-down regulators are suitable for multi-position mounting when using a vent line. However, when using a
vent-limiting device, the regulator must be mounted in a horizontal upright position.

• Your SoCalGas Representative must approve alternate locations.
