Specification 2011-02

CLASS: ELASTOMERE CLASS No.: 26


THERMOPLASTIC ELASTOMER (TPE) JED
ON THE BASIS OF PP/EPDM 612
PREVIOUS EDITION ABBREVIATED TITLE:
1992-10 TPE, -400C 852 006 120 4

1 Scope

The specification deals with a thermoplastic elastomers for the manufacture of parts which are
exposed to the outdoor atmosphere.

JED-612-0 for boots and protective caps; hardness 555 Shore A.

JED-612-1 for boots and protective caps; hardness 405 Shore D.

If JED-612 is indicated in the draving, JED-612-0 shall be applied.

2 General requirements

The finished parts shall be homogeneous and free from pores, blisters, and other defects. The
parts must not show any defects such as cracks, voids etc. within their structure.

The requirements for finished parts can be taken from the drawing, the special part specification
and the technical conditions of delivery JED-220 established by WABCO.

All materials, even ingredients in small quantities (e.g. cadmium), which are detrimental to
health or to the environment are banned from being used.

3 Thermal range of application of the elastomer parts

Continuous operational temperature range: -40 °C to +125 °C

Short-term exposure to heat: 1h at +150 °C

Storage temperatures according to ISO 2230.

4 Physical properties

The nominal values given on the following sheets are to be determined according to the test
methods specified.

5 Marking

The sheet samples must be provided with a permanent marking (designation of the
manufacturer and compound as well as the date of manufacture).

6 Initial sampling

At new presentation of a material according to this specification, its technical data must be
indicated (range and mean values according to ISO 2602).

Moreover,

4 sheet samples 2  0,2 x 200 x 200 mm

1 sheet sample 6  0,2 x 60 x 80 mm
5 vulcanized test pieces large type according to ISO 815

have to be made available.

The supplier guarantees the customer the indicated technical data for all deliveries according to
this specification.

7 Release of a material

After positive result of the sheet sample inspection, finished parts are ordered extra for the
validation tests (life tests). The release – which only refers to the respective parts family – is
made in case of positive result of these tests.

Any modification of the compound, of its ingredients or of the manufacturing process para meters
of material or finished parts – irrespective of the type of modification or its reason – is only
permissible after previous release by the department which is responsible for the technical
design.

8 Conditions of delivery

The material and the finished parts must correspond to the technical conditions of delivery
specified in JED-220.
