POWER MODULE HEAT PUMP
AND
10T CHILLER SETTINGS

THE HEAT PUMP
• The purpose of the Power Module
Heat Pump is NOT to cool the
glycol running through the cold
plates in the MD500 Drive
System.
• It is to keep the building ambient
temperature regulated and
approximately 3 to 5 degrees
cooler than that of the chiller
tank temperature.
• This reduces the risk of
condensation.
• Compare a cold glass of water on
a hot day to a warm cup of
coffee on a cold day. The cold
glass will be covered in
condensation…the coffee will not.

THE CHILLER

• The purpose of the 10T chiller is

NOT to pump coolant into the
Power Module drive components.
• It is to keep the Drive tank
between 68 to 77 degrees
Fahrenheit (2 degree
differential).
• The Drive pump then pumps
coolant from the tank into the
Power Module.

SETTING THE HEAT PUMP

• To set the heat pump,

you must use the menu
function and select the
settings you require for
your Unit to maintain
the proper temperature

SETTING THE HEAT PUMP

• Select Heat/Cool

• Select Auto changeover

this allows the heat
pump to switch from
heat to cool and back

SETTING THE HEAT PUMP
• Select Fan settings

• Select Fan on

SETTING THE HEAT PUMP
• Select User settings

• Ensure the following

settings are selected

SETTING THE HEAT PUMP
• Still in user settings,
ensure the following
settings are selected

• It is important to note
that the cooling limit is
higher than the heating
limit

• Select Installer settings

SETTING THE HEAT PUMP
• Ensure the following
settings are selected

• Security codes can be

installed at the user’s
discretion; it is not
recommended

SETTING THE HEAT PUMP

• From main screen,

select Hold Temp

• Select Permanent
Hold

SETTING THE HEAT PUMP

• Select Permanent Hold at

68 Degrees F

• This should be EXACTLY

how your screen looks at
the end of the
programming procedure.

THE 10T CHILLER

• The pictures show that

the “A” compressor is
not ON at the moment.

• The suction and

discharge pressures
are equalized showing
that there are no leaks
in the system.

THE 10T CHILLER
• As the compressor suction
pressure drops to 65 or 70
psi, it indicates that the
compressor is engaging

• The discharge pressure

should at least double the
suction.

• Pressures between 200 to

240 psi are normal under
heavier load, aka: Hotter
conditions

THE 10T CHILLER
• The WTT, or Water
Temperature Thermostat
is a 2 stage device.

• It controls both A and B

compressors.

• By setting it to 70, it
automatically sets the
second stage to 75, or 5
degrees higher.

THE 10T CHILLER
• On the schematic, it shows
both stages of the WTT as
one unit.

• It shows the previous

settings of 65 and 70 F.

• Remember, the setting you

put on the WTT is 70; the
device automatically sets
the second stage 5 degrees
higher.

THE 10T CHILLER
• The compressors are
prevented from being
turned OFF and ON
repeatedly due to a 3
minute Anti Short Cycle
Timer.

• These timers reduce the

heavy strain of starting
and stopping the
compressors.

THE CHILLER BYPASS PUMP
• In the event of a pump or
chiller failure, both the Top
Drive pump or the Drive
pump can be bypassed, by
use of valve adjustment,
using the Chiller Bypass
pump.

• In colder locations, the

chiller bypass pump is used
all year round, as the chiller
is not necessary

THE CHILLER BYPASS PUMP
• By following the valve
schematic, the valve
tree can be adjusted
to bypass each pump

• When bypassed, the

chiller can be shut
down and the glycol
will be cooled by the
Top Drive radiator

In summary…
• By ensuring that the Power Module heat pump is
programmed to proper specifications; the chiller is
set to maintain the tank temperature so as to
never be below the ambient building temperature;
and the system is monitored on a regular basis;
the MD500 Drive system should run at peak
efficiency for maximum longevity.

• In the event of an unscheduled chiller or pump

motor shutdown, downtime can be reduced or
avoided by correct use of the Chiller bypass
pump.
