A SEMI DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN

EARTH AND LIFE SCIENCE

GRADE 11 JADE DAY 1 WEEK 6

Monday – Thursday: 8:00 am to 9:00 am. Pewee Building Rm. 402

I. Objectives:

At the end of the discussion, 100% of the learners should be able to:

A. Identify the layers of rocks (stratified rocks).

B. Describe how layers of rocks (stratified rocks) are formed (S11/12ES-Ie-25)
C. Value the importance of knowing how the planet Earth evolved in the last 4.6 billion years
(including the age of the Earth, major geologic time subdivisions, and marker fossils).

II. Subject Matter:

A. Topic: History of the Earth

a. Reference: Earth History Powerpoint presentation

b. Materials: Whiteboard, Whiteboard market, eraser, tablet, pad paper, LCD Projector,
Laptop,
III. Procedure:

A. Preparation
1. Routine Activities
a. Greetings
b. Prayer
c. Checking of attendance and classroom cleanliness
d. Checking of assignment
e. Review of past lesson
- What is our topic yesterday?

2. Motivation

The teacher will introduce the student teachers assigned for today and they will inform the
class regarding their assigned topic.

B. Presentation of the lesson The teacher will facilitate learning of the topic Deformation of
Crust which will be discussed by the two (2) student teachers assigned.

C. Closing activities

1. Generalization
Geologic Time: Earth is estimated to be around 4.6 billion years old based on the rock
and fossil record.

Law of Superposition

Sediments are laid down underwater in horizontal layers and form sedimentary rocks.

• In a series of sedimentary rocks the bottom layer is the oldest and the top layer is the
youngest

– Lower layers must be in place before younger rocks can be deposited on top of
them

– Exception: when something occurs to overturn layers

Grand Canyon

GRAND CANYON- LAW OF SUPERPOSITION

• Rock layers are older than folds found in them
– Layers were there before they were folded
Law of Superposition

 Rock layers are older than faults found in them

 This is logical: you can’t break a rock if it does not exist; so rock containing a fault must
be older than the fault
 Fossils are generally the same age as the rock layers in which they are found
- Animal remains are deposited along with the sediments that will turn into
sedimentary rocks
 Igneous intrusions are younger than the rock that they cut through or flow out of

Unconformity

• When a new rock layer is formed atop an eroded surface

2. Values integration

Critical Thinking, Analysis, Teamwork, Comprehension

3. Application

The student teachers will discuss the topic assigned to them. They will be
facilitated by the teacher.
IV. Evaluation

Active Class Discussion, Formative Assessment

V. Agreement:

Topic: History of the Earth

Research and study on the following topics. Write it on your notebook.

1. Describe the different methods (relative and absolute dating) to determine the age of
stratified rocks
