Distinguished guests,

Members of the media,

Ladies and gentlemen,

It gives me great pleasure to welcome all of you today to the Talisman Malaysia
Scholarship Award Presentation Ceremony and would like to thank you for sharing this
significant milestone with us.

On behalf of Talisman Malaysia Limited, I would also like to thank Yang Berbahagia
Datuk Omar, Deputy Secretary General of Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia, for
taking time out of your busy schedule to grace this afternoon’s ceremony with your
presence. Yang Berbahagia, your presence here means a lot to us and we do
appreciate the support rendered towards Talisman by you and your ministry.

Ladies and gentlemen,

Today’s students are tomorrow’s leaders. By nurturing these young talents, we are in
fact, investing in both our future and the future of our country. Indeed, Malaysia is richly
blessed with a diverse group of young minds with the world theirs for the taking. We do
not have to look very far, just look around this room today at the sixteen recipients of the
Talisman Malaysia Scholarship 2010, as well as our past scholarship recipients.

At Talisman it is our belief that, as an organization in Malaysia, we have a responsibility

and can play a part towards the growth of this nation and the shaping of Malaysia’s
future.
It is with this purpose in mind, that the Talisman Malaysia Limited Scholarship program
began in 2008 as our contribution to the nation in developing towards tomorrow’s
workforce.

With three participating institutions, namely Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, University of

Malaya and Universiti Sains Malaysia, scholarships are awarded to local students from
these organizations to pursue both undergraduate and masters program in engineering
and geosciences disciplines.

In 2008 and 2009, 32 deserving students were awarded financial aid and as I mentioned
earlier, 14 students are the proud recipients of the scholarship this year, as you will
witness later. It is also my pleasure and honour to announce today that since we began
this scholarship programme in 2008, more than USD243,000 (RM 747,000) has been
awarded to these, the best and brightest engineering and geology students from across
Malaysia, including students from East Malaysia. This programme also provides the
opportunity for these students to expose themselves to the oil and gas industry, as well
as Talisman values and culture, to provide them with a solid platform to learn what it
takes to excel in the exciting and fast developing world and oil and gas.

To the recipients of the scholarships, both past and present - it is our hope that this
scholarship marks a beginning of a lifelong journey for each and every one of you – a
journey of learning and of a relentless pursuit of excellence. The world of science and
technology in this day and age is one that is fast expanding with so much more to be
discovered and so much to expound on. I therefore urge you to take this opportunity as a
stepping stone, and a catalyst to propel you to further achieve greater heights, as
citizens of Malaysia. Indeed, nothing can sum up my advice better today than the wise
words of Mahatma Gandhi – “Live as if you were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were
to live forever.”

Ladies and gentlemen, once again on behalf of Talisman Malaysia Limited, I would like
to thank you for being with us here today, and we do hope you enjoy the rest of the
evening’s proceedings.

Thank you.
