Question: To achieve the very elusive economic stability, where should reform start -
government or its citizens?

Reform should start with the government because they are the ones responsible to
plan for the betterment of the economy at the same time they are the ones to be
blamed when they decide not to hear out the opinions, comments and suggestions of
the citizens.
Knowing that economic stability is one of the key points in each agenda of our
political leaders before they are elected into position, they should feel responsible
enough to do their work as to what they have promised.
Inflation is brought about by the supply of money in the cycle and it is the obligation
of the government on how to manage and contain problems that continually arises. If
economic stability is not within the grasp of a country, it is time for the government to
review the laws on trades, industries and investments as well as the system or approach
to such elusive goal.

- Samantha Mateo

For me, both the government and its citizens should start a reform. It is because in
our economy, the government as well as the citizens should be at equilibrium in order to
succeed in achieving economic stability.
As citizens of our country, each one of us has a responsibility and has a significant
role in whatever endeavor our beloved country undergoes especially when in comes to
the economy.
On the other hand, the government has, at the same time, an important role in
hearing out the needs of the citizens. For example, as Department of Trade and Industry
is the government agency tasked to expand Philippine trade, industries and investments
as the means to generate jobs and raise incomes for Filipinos, imposes as well as
regulates the prices of goods demanded by the citizens. They survey both sides of the
trade industry so as to stabilize such aspect of the economy.
It is essential for the government and its citizens to cohere for the welfare of the
country.

- John Eric Cruspero

I think in achieving the elusive economic stability here in Philippines our government
plays the important role. In the sense that the government has the power to implement
things regarding the economic status of the country and has the control in matters
regarding to it. So it is important that the people in the government work as one setting
aside whatever their political party is.
There are pros and cons for the country to achieve economic stability maybe a
good governance is the key to attain it.

- Jenny Obsiana

Reform should start with the citizen, they must know their responsibilities. In a family, it
is important that the parents can support the needs of their children as well as
educating them so it is good for a family to have less number of children enough for
them to support and for the children to have better future when they finish their
education. Because here in the Philippines, poor families have more children than other
middle and upper class families.
And the number of poor families affect the economic growth of the country. The
citizen also decides who will rule the country through voting so its a must that the
people choose a person or people that they think will govern the country well.

As someone living by the Gandhi’s quote, “Be the change your want to see in the
world”, I strongly believe that the citizens should institute reformation. As catalysts of
change, we need to start reforming within ourselves.
Think of our leaders, those who comprise our government, they were once ordinary
citizens of our country before they embraced reformation and acted upon it. To start
within ourselves means being disciplined and abiding by the laws imposed by our
government.
Yes, the government controls factors such as levels of infrastructure and commodity
prices, affecting economic growth in the long term and short term respectively. But
even political instability brought about by disputes in our government affects our
economy in the short term only.
The biggest contributing factor, I believe is from the citizens. Human capital,
development of technology and strength of labor markets are up to the decision of the
people to partake in economic growth, development and stabilization through these
factors. It also the citizens choice to set aside our cultural differences, conventional
beliefs as well as political indifferences for the benefit of the economy.
Finally, as a democratic-republic country, the government's most viable and active
adviser are its citizens. Thus, the moment they, qualified voters, take the decision to
participate in electing the deemed and ought-to-be responsible leaders, they are one
step towards reformation. Why? Well, we continually choose who will lead us for that
one thing - change, reform, "pagbabago", not only towards economic stability but for
the holistic development of our nation.
