Stress-free in teaching Grade V pupils in Kimaya Elementary School

It’s the ultimate teacher’s frustration. It can make you feel helpless, insignificant and
thoroughly disrespected. After waiting in vain for several minutes, it’s only natural to get angry.
With no other option, it’s only natural to threaten and raise your voice to try to reel them in.
And although you may-may finally get their attention, it’s a heavy price to pay.
Because when there is friction between you and your students, everything is more difficult-
rapport, attentiveness, learning, behavior you name it.
IV. SCOPE AND LIMITATIONS OF THE STUDY
The study will be conducted among Grade V pupils of Kimaya Elementary School, Kimaya,
Magsaysay, Misamis Oriental, S.Y 2017-2018.This mainly deals on Stress-free in Teaching and its
implication to quality education.

VI. Methodology:
. Here are some simple things that you can do to make your classroom a place
where students feel comfortable and participate in class discussions:
1. Allow students to hold a comforting object. Sensory activities, such as playing
with a rubber ball or holding a soft toy, are said to reduce stress. Reduce anxiety in
your class by allowing students to either bring their own comforting objects or choose
one from a selection you provide.
2. Eliminate the word “no” from your critiques. As my young friend stated,
receiving a harsh “no” from a teacher decreases his enthusiasm for class participation.
It is important to be conscious of how your responses may be perceived and always
compliment your students for giving their best effort—even when they make a
mistake. For example, it might be better to say something like “You are so close. That
was a great guess; I can see why you would think that,” then provide the correct
answer with an explanation.
3. Adjust the room temperature. When you imagine being nervous, what are the
first things that come to mind? Clammy hands? Sweaty forehead? A common first
response to anxiety is heightened body temperature. For that reason, it is important to
ensure that the temperature in your classroom is neither too hot nor too cold so that
your students can feel as comfortable as possible.
4. Play music softly. Numerous studies have been conducted that prove the value of
playing music in the classroom. Music provides a steady beat that not only helps to
reduce stress but also helps students develop a rhythmic pattern.
5. Make sure students are hydrated. Dehydration can create a feeling of intense
discomfort that is heightened by anxiety. Students who drink water before an
assessment are said to perform better because they are able to concentrate less on their
thirst and more on the task at hand. Allowing your students to take a few sips of water
before class discussions may increase their performance.
6. Create a comfortable area. For a lot of kids, just the thought of being in a
classroom turns their stomachs upside-down. Wooden desks and hard plastic chairs
don’t exactly scream comfort. When I think back to my favorite school classrooms,
however, I remember that there was something special about them—an area of the
room that didn’t feel like a classroom. Looking back now, I realize what a difference
it made to me to have an inviting space to learn. You can create a relaxing area in
your classroom by providing comfortable chairs or bean bags. Because the right
lighting (or mood lighting, if you will) is also important, it might be a good idea to
add a nice lamp too.
7. Provide time to work in small groups. Some students feel more comfortable
working in small groups than participating in a big class discussion. By allowing
students to work in small groups, you give them the opportunity to not only use their
language skills but also to make friends, which will help them feel more comfortable
when they transition to speaking in front of the entire class.
8. Develop a personal relationship with each student. One of the best ways to help
students feel comfortable is to get to know them individually. What are their interests?
Almonds make for a great snack; they stop you from craving other naughtier foods and are
deliciously nutritious.

Quality education and stress free education is the need of the hour. The twenty first
century is about the management and assessment of all the knowledge we have
generated and the value addition we bring to it. So we have to understand the term
education. What is Education?
The word Education is derived from the Latin word – Educere which means ‘bring out,
lead forth’. It means the child is not an empty box to fill. We have to bring the best out of
him. Education focuses on the harmonious, physical, mental, social, emotional,
technical, and spiritual development of the child. It transforms the child from a self-
controlled, egoistic being into a social and global citizen. If this is the meaning of
education, then why does education become the synonym of STRESS? Teachers and
parents both have to try to understand the real meaning of education.
Marrying competencies and skills acquired through academic pursuit with responsible
quantitative and qualitative assessment techniques will definitely lead to a special
flowering of talents, which would fulfill the mission of education. Our missile man, Dr.
Kalam believed in this. So assessment should be free from stress. The National
Curriculum Framework (NCF 2005) visualizes certain broad aims of education which
seem to be in sync with Dr. Kalam’s mission. It explains that real education makes the
child THINK and TRY. It guides the educators – during assessment they should give
importance to the independence of thoughts and actions of a child, not to rote learning.
The teacher who was once the SAGE on the stage is now a guide or facilitator to
empower students to learn at their pace and at their leisure, or through personal
learning networks.
The great Irish playwright George Bernard Shaw once said – Progress is impossible
without change and those who cannot change their minds cannot change anything. So
all the stake holders in the education process need to make a paradigm shift to a more
transparent and inclusive evaluation system. More efforts are required towards
changing the mindset of children and parents; those who have very big dreams, make
stress an inevitable part of their lives. The need of the hour is to understand that the rat
race towards high ranking and unbelievable percentages will make the life of a child full
of stress. Stress causes depression, insomnia, and brings about drastic changes in the
personality of the child. Another reason of stress may be excessive workload, too many
curricular activities and lack of time. It leads to rebelliousness among the students and
kills the interest of the child in studies.
When we trace the evolution of mankind, we see how human beings moved from one
level to the next – from hunting to farming to developing computers to smart phones. So
we have to understand that the demography of our classroom has changed drastically
and the focus of education is no longer on rote learning but on concept formation with
the application of ICT like flipped classroom, etc. So our classrooms are increasingly
becoming learning laboratories and education is to move beyond the traditional
methods. Classrooms should become centres to facilitate learning and educators
should put into practice scientific and efficient ways of assessment.
Once Dr.A.P.J.Kalam asked –‘Can we make an education system which will retain
smiles on the faces of the students throughout the period of education?’ So, both
parents and teachers have to meet the challenges and work to maintain smiles on the
faces of the students. A child stepping into the sea of learning is like a refreshing
morning breeze untouched by stress of the competitive world. Parents and educators
must understand child psychology and the real meaning of education.
The aim of education is to develop every child to become a confident and self-directed
learner by working on his IQ, EQ and SQ and prepare him to become a physically,
mentally, technically, ethically and morally upright global citizen. The goal of education
was, is and shall always remain to equip our children with values to become better
individuals; thereby creating a better world where there is no space for stress in life.
