Situation
ISV anti-virus support for NetWare 6.5 after March 7th 2010
Resolution
With the end of NetWare General Support, several anti-virus vendors will no longer publish virus definitions for NetWare
servers to protect client workstations and enterprise file systems. For customers employing this type of server-side
protection, dynamic server based analysis will no longer be available, but perimeter-based security for workstations and
mobile devices can offset this loss of coverage. Customers are advised to speak to their anti-virus vendors to determine
alternative virus protection.
Important to note is that these same anti-virus vendors do provide a variety of methods to protect environments on Linux.
Therefore customers are advised to upgrade to Open Enterprise Server 2 SP2 as soon as possible to take advantage of ISV
offerings of their preference. Moreover, if customers run Dynamic Storage Technology for Linux on the primary server,
complete with anti-virus protection, and the only access to the NetWare secondary is through the primary server, there is no
need for anti-virus protection on the secondary server -- the files have been scanned before they ever hit the NetWare
secondary.
Novell provides many resources and offerings to help customers upgrade. Customers and partners may visit
www.novell.com/upgrade for more information.

Article Feedback
This document describes the supported configurations with XenDesktop and Novell’s Domain Services for Windows.
Configuration Detail
XenDesktop 3 and 4 are supported when used in an environment with Novell’s Domain Services for Windows (DSfW)
in Open Enterprise Server 2 Support Pack 1 and higher as follows:
The XenDesktop farm must be configured to use registry-based controller discovery, as documented in KB article
CTX118976 - How to Configure XenDesktop to Function Properly Without an Organizational Unit in Active Directory,
and all Desktop Delivery Controllers and virtual desktops must be a member of the same “Domain Services for
Windows” domain. There is no requirement for Novell client software to be installed either on the Desktop Delivery
Controllers or the virtual desktops.
While all XenDesktop Editions will be supported for use with Novell’s DSfW, only the components contained within
Standard and Express Editions of XenDesktop are supported. Specifically Citrix only supports XenDesktop for use
with Novell’s DSfW for connections between the Desktop Delivery Controller and physical or virtual desktops running
the Virtual Desktop Agent that are not being streamed by Provisioning Services. Provisioning Services and the other
components of Advanced, Enterprise and Platinum XenDesktop Editions are not supported with DSfW at this time.
