Confusing Words Grammar

Look at the comparative and superlative forms in these sentences.

1. It's hotter today than it was last week.


2. The exam was easier than the last one.
3. These shoes are much more expensive than the last pair you saw.
4. Cars are becoming faster and faster but safer too.
5. Cities are becoming more and more crowded.
6. London is the most cosmopolitan city in the world.
7. Christmas is the busiest time for shoppers.
8. That's the best film I’ve ever seen.
9. Alex is more talented by far than Joe.
10. 14 hours is the longest time I’ve spent flying.

From these sentences we can see how the comparative is formed:

Words with one syllable: hot = hot +t+er,


Words ending in 'y': easy = eas+i+er
Words with two or more syllables: expensive = more expensive.

To express a gradual or continuous change: faster and faster, more and more crowded.

The superlative can be formed in these ways:

Words with one syllable: best = the best, long = the longest
Words ending in 'y': busy = the bus+i+est,
Words with two or more syllables: the most cosmopolitan
