Dengue Short Case Analysis

Abstract

Laboratory examination is common procedure that being done in every medical
practice, from primary health care until tertiary health care. Therefore, the state-of-art
of laboratory interpretation is crucial and mandatory to decide and manage patient
treatment or plan. A short case report of 12 year-old male patient presents with two-
days fever with unclear type or pattern of fever in secondary-health care service. During
hospitalized, the laboratory result shows leucopenia, thrombocytopenia and
hemoconcentration. The serologic testing for dengue antigen is chosen as diagnostic
tools. This case shows typical classic dengue, however, the important issue from this
case is the time of detection and decision to choose the laboratory examination, as well
as knowledge of result interpretation. Therefore, knowledge and also communication
skills should be improved and updated, for better patient management.
