AMIGO

On December 10, 1898, the U.S. and Spain signed the Treaty of Paris,
formally ending the Spanish–American War. After that, the U.S military made a
base on the Philippines and built a Military government to maintain peace in the
Philippines. During this time, Emilio Aguinaldo wants to proclaim himself the
president and declare dictatorial government without the permission to the U.S
and this became a major problem between the Philippine military under
Aguinaldo and U.S, which became the cause of Philippine American War.

To avoid casualties from the revolutionary army of Aguinaldo, they hid on

the mountains and forest, hidden but making contacts from the near towns
which also occupied by the American soldiers. They were secretly helping by
the town people, gathering information and waiting to attack the Americans.

On the story of the Amigo, this is the time when the Americans are on war
with the Aguinaldo’s revolutionary army. They were making every town their
base to take control the Philippines from the revolutionary army. When the U.S
came to the town, the peaceful and bountiful small town was cover with terror
because Americans thought they are revels in the town but they never proved it
because of the help of their town priest. They became part of the town and just
obeying orders from the top. During their stay, they want to take control and
limit of the residence way of life to avoid the contact of residence to the revels.
The U.S military also put their flag up on the town, which the residence became
unpleasant to it. The residence and Americans cannot understand what they
are saying to each other. There is a time where the revel attacked the town,
and the Americans accidentally killed a child and accused them as the cause
of the killing. Because of the continuous killings, the Americans are obliged to
take full control of the town. They burned the crops, polluted the river and killed
their animals. They just feed the town people with can goods.

Amigo is the leader of the town and have a revel son. He became the spy
of the revels and a dog of the U.S. He just disregard the hardships he
experiencing and focus on what is for the common goods of his people and to
God. He just want to end it and for the Americans to be gone from their town.
Despite of the chaos, they still became strong and continued their traditions in
the name of God.
