 INTRODUCTION & PURPOSE
- Infectious disease worldwide are still the leading cause of death of
children and adolescents.
- Recent Epidemics/Infectious Diseases include Bird Flu, Ebola, SARS.
- How can we effectively control diseases?
- Most people in developing countries contract these diseases, due to
the lack o resources.
- Latest treatments, preventative medicine, cost and cultural issues
prevent these people seeking help.
 INTRODUCTION & PURPOSE
In this task:
- You will have the opportunity to investigate economic, ethical and social
implications.
- Examine and research what causes these diseases to spread.
- Research how to control infectious diseases.
- This research will be applied to a disease control strategy in a fictitious
Australian town.
- This town has been infected with a potentially destructive infectious disease
outbreak.

to find data and information**
- This will support your suggested disease control strategy.

** You will present your findings as a report that focuses on

the key concept of Science as a Human Endeavour**
- The acceptance and use of scientific knowledge can be influenced by social,
economic, cultural and ethical considerations.
 ASSESSMENT CONDITIONS
- 4 Weeks to complete, with class time provided for research and support.
- Students may submit one draft/outline for feedback.
- Word Count: Max 1000 words.
