Portfolio Artifact Description: Truss Bridge – Create a truss bridge profile that shows attention to detail, is symmetrical, and uses line or other shape tools to create an accurate 2- dimensional drawing of a unique truss shape. What you Learned: Until this assignment I did not realize that Microsoft Power Point had all these tools available. In the past I have only used Power Point for presentation assignments, so in the beginning I had some difficulty finding and using the Draw and Insert tools. It was a challenge to get perfect lines and symmetry with the bridge and erasing lines that overlapped. National Educational Technology Standards for Students (NETS- S) Addressed: Computational Thinker: Standard #5 – Teaching students to problem solve using different technology and programs to create new solutions.
Application of Skills Learned for the Future:
I can see how students would benefit from learning how to use the tools in Power Point. Students learning about symmetry, shapes and angels would learn a lot from experimenting with this assignment. The program on the computer I used even had a ruler tool that measured angels as well as distance. I think the could be a very useful tool for students learning about measurement and symmetry.
