Quezon City Police District director PCSupt Guillermo Eleazar presented to the media today two
alleged drug personalities they identified as Merhan Jahiron, a 28-year-old sales assistant of
Barangay East Kamias, and Joven Cariño, 20, a resident of Sampaloc, Manila.

It appears that the operation was an offshoot of their previous bust on December 31 which
resulted in the recovery of P1 million worth of party drugs and the of four drug suspects
including a magazine editor named Niña Recio.

QCPD Drug Enforcement chief Ferdinand Mendoza said that Recio, his former live-in partner
Raul Cisneros who was arrested in Taguig City in September 2016 also for selling party drugs,
and the latest arrested suspects have the same supplier, who police said, is a foreign national.

After learning the connection of Jahiron and Cariño to the previous arrested drug suspects, joint
operatives of the DDEU, Galas Police Station (PS-11) and the Philippine Drug Enforcement
Agency National Capital Region Office (PDEA-NCRO) carried out a buy-bust operation.

At about 10:30 p.m., arresting officers set the operation at a gasoline station at the corner of E.
Rodriguez Sr. Avenue and D. Tuazon Street in Barangay Doña Josefa.

Upon dealing of the poseur-buyer with the target suspects, authorities immediately collared the
duo.

Four plastic sachets of Kush or a high-grade marijuana, 21 tablets of ecstasy and two plastic bags
of cocaine, worth P100,000.

Mendoza said Kush, which grows in Afghanistan, Pakistan and India, has 10 times the effect of
the usual marijuana, and is more expensive with a value of P3,000 per sachet weighing two
grams.

He added that this was the first time they have confiscated this type of drug.

Police are investigating how these illegal drugs are being delivered here in the country through
parcels.

According to Eleazar, they are looking into another three alleged drug peddlers who are also
buying from the same supplier outside the country.

Arrested suspects will be brought for inquest at the Quezon City Prosecutor for violation of
Republic Act 9165 or the Dangerous Drugs Act
