Methological aspects

1st Divide the group into 4 teams.

2nd Give to each pupil a worksheet about the challenge they should work with.

3rd Read, complete, carry out and solve the different proposals in order to solve the
challenge with the help of the different members of the group.

4th Assess the result using group autoevaluation.

INDIVIDUAL WORKSHEETS TO BE DEVELOPED IN SMALL GROUPS

Fractions circle

Name: ____ ______________ Date: ________________

1. Estimate in the circle the circular sector equivalent to a fraction.

¼ , 1/3 , 2/4 , ½ , 2/5

2. With the whole class together, the teacher gives examples with their own circle giving a
sector of a circle and the pupils should estimate the fraction represented.

3. Show in your circle the following fractions. Find the complementary. (Point 1/8 and now
pay attention on the white circle, which is the fraction given? Add both. Which is the
result?)
1/3 ► ¼ ►
2/8 ► 2/5 ►

4. Are the following fractions equivalent or not? Draw them in a paper.

½ and 2/4 1/3 and 2/6 1/5 and 3/10 ,

Name: ____ ______________ Fractions circle

1. The teacher draws a sector and the pupils estimate the fraction represented.

2. Now you, draw the following fractions in the circular sector.

¼ 1/3 2/4 ½ 2/5

3. Show the fractions on your circle. Which is the complementary fraction?

1/3 ► ¼ ►

2/8 ► 2/5 ►

4. Are the following fractions equivalent?

½ and 2/4 1/3 and 2/6 1/5 and 3/10

INDIVIDUAL WORKSHEETS TO BE DEVELOPED IN SMALL GROUPS

Fractions wall
Name: ____ ______________ Date: ________________

Activities:

1. Identify from highest to lowest each piece and its complementary.

2. Take notice of the complete fraction wall. Repite again beginning with the biggest
pieces.

3. Draw 2 fractions on the chart and write if they are equal or different.

½ and 3/6 ► 6/8 and ¾ ►

3/10 and 4/5 ► 5/10 and 3/6►

Write at least three equal fractions.

4. Order in the fraction Wall from the highest to the lowest 2/8 , ½ , 3/6 , 2/3

Name: FRACTION WALL

1. Take notice of the complete fractions wall. Undo it and redo it again starting with
the biggest one.
2. Take from the Wall the pieces representing the following fractions and then, write
their complementary numbers.

1/2► 3/4► 1/5► 2/6► 3/7► 4/8► 1/10►

3. Use the wall to compare two by two the following fractions. Then, write if they are
equivalent or not.

½ and 3/6 ► 3/10 and 4/5 ►

Write two equivalent fractions.

4. Order in the wall from the highest to the lowest the following fractions:

2/8 , ½ , 3/6 , 2/3

The incomplete game

Name: ____ ______________ Date: ________________

Activities:

1. Give one incompleted game among the students.

2. Find all the equal fractions (same colours).

3. Add all the equal fractions.

4. Think on the missing fraction that complete the unit.

5. Draw some charts with one missing part or fraction.

Manipulative material

Name: ____ ______________ Date: ________________

SOLVE USING THE MATERIAL

● In a bithday party we have two different cakes. The first cake, the children’s cake, is
divided into 24 pieces and the second cake, the adults cake, is divided into 12 pieces. If
one of the kids ask for a second piece and her mother eats only one piece, who eats
more?

1. Estimate the result.

2. Solve using the material and explain the result.

● How many black pieces (1/12) do you need to do an orange piece (1/6)?

● How many Green pieces (1/8) do you need to do a blue one (1/4)?

Hexagonal fractions domino

Name: ____ ______________ Date: ________________

GAME RULES

1. All the sheets are distributed among the participants.

2. The winner of the game is the first who will run out of sheets.

3. The association must respect the fraction and the colour code.

4. Each player will have a hexagon token to place when a hexagon can be
completed.
