Aaron Siskind
Why is this person important?: Siskind’s early work as a social documentary

photographer is best seen in his contributions to the Harlem Document (1937-40), a

survey of life in Harlem.

Birth Information: When: December 4, 1903. When: New York City. Siblings: 5

other siblings. He is the 6th child.

Important event #1: He was gifted a camera at his wedding in 1903, he started

taking pictures at Bermuda, in his honeymoon.

Important event #2: Siskind joined the faculty of the Institute of Design in Chicago in

1951, taking over as head of the photography pogram in 1961, when Callanam left.

What were his accomplishments ? Guggenhe in fellowship for creative Arts, Us and

Canada.

Quote: “ Photography is away of feeling of touching of loving… what you have caught

on film is captured forever… it remembers little things, long after you have forgotten

everything “.

Personal information/facts: Siskind is sometimes referred to as the ‘ Father of

Modern photography ‘ as he in his own way reinvented photography by giving it a

touch that no one had given it before.

because of the texture it has, I think it looks pretty nice.
