Classroom Management Philosophy

As an elementary school teacher, my classroom management philosophy will be established in

the following ways. I believe engagement plays a role in classroom management as it is

an essential factor in a student’s personal development and learning. Therefore, I will

create a classroom environment where students feel comfortable and safe. Incorporating

learning strategies that will meet all the students learning abilities, and interests. I will

accomplish this by providing enriching and engaging activities, lessons that encourage

tapping into student’s prior knowledge and critical thinking skills. By using problem-

based learning (when students explore the content while interacting with others),

experiential learning (when students learn how to resolve conflicts), and brain-based

learning (a technique that provides activities that are related real life experiences that are

meaningful). I believe this will encourage students to have discussions, and interactions

that keep them engaged and learning with their classmates.

In my classroom, I will establish procedures, routines, and behavior expectations in the following

ways. I believe the key to success when establishing procedures, routines, and behavior

expectations is consistency, consistency, consistency. At the beginning of the school year

teaching students what is to be expected of them then re-teaching them throughout the

year when necessary. However, doing it is a positive/kind way that tells the students I am
2

serious about my expectations of them in my classroom but that I also care and value

them as individuals.

In my classroom, I will use classroom management strategies to meet the diverse needs of

students, achieve instructional goals, and effectively involve families in the following

ways. First, I will do this by building a solid classroom community by getting to know

my students on a personal and academic level. Developing connections with my students

and building a genuine trust in the classroom. This will allow me to get to know the

students learning styles and then adapting lessons and activities to meet their needs.

Encouraging students to express their own ideas, innovations and creativity. Having an

open-door policy that welcomes all families into the classroom building a community that

is based on helping all students be successful.
