Please evaluate and review your personal learning plan:

Behavioural management
In my final weeks at Mount Barker High School I re-evaluated my personal behavioural management plan.
Previously there were times I found myself speaking over students and fighting against mobile phone use. At
the beginning of each lesson I addressed the students on my expectations for the lesson including a complete
ban on mobile phone use as per the school rules. Some students still bucked the rules, but most students
respected my stance. The school had a plan where if a student’s mobile phone was sighted, the teacher would
call a member of leadership to remove the student and/or phone. I did not feel comfortable as a pre-service
teacher completing this task. I managed to observe some teacher’s methods of classroom management and
implement those actions which worked well for me. One such example is calling disruptive students by name,
asking inattentive students questions on lesson content etc.

Communication
I was able to fully embrace the schools Daymap application. I put up lesson outcomes and success criteria prior
to each lesson, and self-taught myself how to create assessment drop-boxes and submit grades. Unfamiliar
technology is not my strong point, but I managed to familiarise myself with the program. Many students claimed
to not have access to Daymap, but it is beneficial for those who choose to use it.

Thinking on my feet
When things went wrong in the classroom such as a technology failure, I often would panic. I quickly learned to
always have backup plan. I worked extremely hard on my content knowledge of chemistry and physics
throughout my placement, however there were times when I was caught off guard by questions. I did not have
the confidence to ‘banter’ with the students in these classes like I did in biology where I was confident in my
knowledge. I grew in my confidence of content knowledge towards the end of my time at Mount Barker High
School, and feel good about my future as a general science teacher.
