Topic: Case study analysis

Intent: The case report will give you a chance to critically analyse global health

issues from a rights-based approach. The report will encourage and support their

learning of topics related to human rights and health and will give the students a

practical opportunity to put forward evidence-based recommendations based on their

judgements formed through their self-directed research.

Task: After careful examination of each of the four case studies below, choose one

and write a human rights report addressing the following:

• Identify the context and describe the health issue.

• What are the social, environmental and/or economic factors involved?

• What effect is this having on the health of the people involved? Show evidence.

• Describe which human rights are being violated and why (i.e. how is this occurring?

I.e. what policies or practices are affecting the rights of people?)

• What is being done about it? (Which organisations are involved?)

• What more could be done to improve the health and human rights of the people

involved? Expand and support any recommendations made with evidence.

Your report must adhere to the standards of academic writing and you must show

evidence of extensive research with a minimum of 10 correctly referenced Harvard

resources.

Length: 1000 words +/- 10%.
