Aaron Siskind

Aaron Sikind was a famous photographer, born in New York City on December 4,

1903 and died on February 8, 1991. He started working as a English teacher in a

high school, he later became interested in photography in 1930. He found out he

liked taking photos and the art of it when he received a camera for his wedding gift.

On his honeymoon when he was taking pictures . Aaron siskind was born the fifth of

six children in a Russian-Jewish immigrant family in New york City. The first

interest were poetry and music, that led him to believe he would become a writer,

after graduating from DeWitt Clinton High School, he earned his Bachelors of Social

Science degree in Literature from college of the City of New York. Much like the

member of group f.64 Siskind achieved surprising dramatic result by shooting his

subject at close range within a few years he became preoccupied with the abstract

qualities of two dimensional surfaces such as payment, billboard, and walls. Much of

Siskind’s influence on photography resulted from his activities as a founding

member of the Social for photography Education and as coeditor of choice, a

literary and photography magazine. He accomplished goals he social documentary

photographer producing series such as Harlem Documentary. Member of New York

photo League, horizon Dress publish his first book “Aaron Siskind Photographer” he

also received the Philadelphia College of Art Gold Star of merit award and the Rhode

Island Governor’s prize of the arts.
