The Karnatak Lingayat Education Society was established at Belagavi by seven immensely renowned
individuals referred to as Saptarshis’ in 1916 during the heydays of main stream liberal nationalist
movement with a broad outlook to disseminate higher education among educationally not so advanced
people of the contemporary northern Karnataka, then an integral part of British Bombay Presidency. At
present, the K.L.E.Society has been managing 262 educational institutions catering amply to diverse
walks of life like Kinder Garten Education, Elementary Education, Secondary Education, Pre-University
Education, Under Graduate and Post Graduate Medical, Medicinal, Dental, Nursing, Paramedical,
Engineering,Pedagogical,Managerial,Collegiate, Legal, Tourism and Hospitality Management Institutions
spread across Karnataka and Maharashtra in discernibly competent fashion.However, the pinnacle of its
accomplishment has been visible in the establishment of Dr.Prabhakar Kore High-tech Hospital and
Health Care Centre and Cancer Hospital, both at Belagavi.
KLE Society’s Lingaraj College, Belagavi
The Society established its first Arts and Commerce College at Belagavi in 1933 and named it after a
philanthropist and prince Lingaraj of a local principality called Sirasangi and Navalagund. It was declared
open by Sir Frederick Sykes, the Governor of Bombay Presidency on 11 October 1933. In the recent
years, the Lingaraj College has manifested its innate strength through high ranking in three periodical
accreditations by NAAC. The college was conferred with Autonomous Status on 27-01-2005 by UGC,
New Delhi. It has afterwards acquired the UGC tag of being a Centre with Potential for Excellence. Rising
to the occasion, the College has also introduced BBA, MBA, MA (Economics), MA (English), and M.Com
Post Graduation Programmes making itself more comprehensive.
Department of History
The Department of History is as old as the college itself. Several luminaries like Prof. S.S.Basavanal
M.A;BT (1935-49),Prof. K.S.Srikantan M.A;FRES; Dip.in Lib.(1938-41),Dr V.Venkatraman M.A;D.lit (1944-
45),Prof N.K.Narayan Sharma M.A:B.Ed (1945-60), and Prof Gopalkrishna (1960-63) have enrichened the
department by the virtue of their knowledge. At present, the department offers History optional as an
Under Graduate subject.

The city Belgaum is situated in Northern Karnataka with 15051North and 74030 East. It is District
Headquarter and Divisional Headquarter as well. Belgaum could be reached through air from Bombay,
Bangalore and Panaji. The airport of Belgaum is situated at Sambra, a sub-urb of Belgaum. It could also
be reached through Railways from all metropolitan cities of India except north-eastern states. Belgaum
may be reached from Bombay and Bangalore by Road Transport through National Highway number
four.

Accommodation

As the National Seminar has been confined to one day alone, the organizers of the seminar have not
made accommodation arrangement. If the participants wish to stay previous day and night, they will
have to make their own arrangements. Belgaum city in general, and the vicinity of KLE Society’s Lingaraj
College in specific have several moderate and elitist lodges at affordable tariff.

Guidelines for Preparation of Research Paper


Title Page: The title page of the research paper shall have the following information: (i) Title of the
Research Paper/ Name of the Seminar; (ii) Name, Institutional Affiliation, Postal and E-mail Address of
the Scholar / Scholars’
Abstract Page: The abstract shall be on separate page not exceeding five hundred words with optimum
seven key words.
Research Paper: The research paper shall be in English comprising Times New Roman font-12 with 1.5
space upon A-4 size. It shall not exceed 5000 words. It may suitably be divided into sections and para
graphs.
Headings and Footnotes: All headings and sub-headings shall be marked in bold, and sub-headings be
italicized. As far as possible, footnotes and end-notes are to be avoided. If utilised, these should be
numbered serially in Arabic numerals.
Figures and Tables: Line drawings, graphs and photographs are considered as ‘figures’. They shall not
exceed 20 x 16 cm in size.
• Each figure must be cited in the text and listed in a separate file numbered consecutively in Arabic
numerals.
• Computer generated photographs should be in TIFF/ JPEG format at 600 dpi. Computer generated
line drawings should be provided as vector graphics using standard system font Times New Roman.
• Each figure shall have a caption and directional arrow. The legends and symbols used shall be
readable and adequately large as figures are likely to be reduced in size.
• Each table should be cited in the text and must be listed in a separate file numbered consecutively
in Arabic numerals.
• Tables should in general contain headings and numbers. They should not be embedded in the text.
Each table should have title and caption
• Units of measurement shall be metric units and temperatures be in °C.
References: All references shall be in APA (American Psychological Association) style . They consist of
two components:
(i) In-Text Citations: Information about a source shall be included within the relevant part of the text of
the research paper. At the end of a quoted sentence, the name of the author or authors, the year of
publication, and the page numbers of the concerned source have to be cited in brackets as cited here
after for your convenience (Basham A.L., 1981:42-46);
(ii) Arranged References: At the end of the research paper, the references shall be arranged in alpha
betical order on separate page under the title ‘References’ in the succeeding ways:
