Lesson
Overview/Rationale Students will strengthen command of Social Studies by
recognizing each state and it’s capital. Students will work in groups of 3.

● Teacher will present the book “50 States” via PowerPoint
presentation
● Students will get into groups of three
● Each group will explore six states from the book and write facts
about each state
● One student in each group will find facts
● One student in each group will identify the capitals
● One student in each group will list the states
● Each group will create a Microsoft PowerPoint presentation that
contains each state and capital along with a fact
Assessment
● I checked for understanding during the activity by looking at their
lined paper and seeing if they have identified each state and
capital and a few facts for each.
● Each group will be evaluated on their Microsoft PowerPoint that
contains the fifty states and their capitals.
