it is the power of God. (NIV)

1 Corinthians 1:19-21
For it is written, "I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and the cleverness of the clever I will set
aside." Where is the wise man? Where is the scribe? Where is the debater of this age? Has not God
made foolish the wisdom of the world? For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom
did not come to know God, God was well-pleased through the foolishness of the message preached to
save those who believe. (NASB)

1 Corinthians 1:25
For the foolishness of God is wiser than man's wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than
man's strength. (NIV)

If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it
will be given to him. (NIV)

James 3:17
But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate,
submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere. (NIV)

From Failure To Success – A Story Of Letting Go

October 27, 2009 | Posted by peterg

Failure is something we all face in our lives. I’ve sure had my share. I remember in the mid 1990s, I
had worked myself all the way from a sales person to Marketing Director to COO of a thriving
company – only to discover that I really did not like that position. So I did something radical. I
decided to quit this very secure job and start my own advertising based business. It was an original
idea in an industry I was very familiar with – a business magazine mailed to local business owners
around my community. A great idea plus my hard work ethic – I was sure would work.
Both my wife and I put everything we had, financially and emotionally into this idea. It was very
exciting to see how fast we acquired our first (and last) 30 clients! Within a couple months we had a
real magazine! Clients were getting fantastic results. There was only one small problem…though
clients were excited about the return they were getting (one even said it was “the only advertising
that ever worked”), some still had financial problems and couldn’t continue on a consistent basis.
Bottom line – we eventually ran out of money. Then, on top of having to close down the magazine,
we even had to hawk our 8 year old cars just to pay postage for the last mailing!!
I was devastated…my dream had died. I remember how depressed I was. I gave it my all and it was
not enough. I had no job, no money, and worst of all – a seriously damaged sense of confidence.
Maybe, that’s were you are now.
I had only questions…no answers. I asked God the usual questions …why? Why me? How could you
allow me to be so humiliated? Why did you let this happen?
It took another 2 months for me to hit the real bottom when I had to raid our earthquake kid
preparedness kit for quarters…we were that broke. Until then, I was still holding on to a few shreds of
pride. I didn’t want to let them go, believing that somewhere within myself I could “make it happen.”
Once that last fingernail on the cliff ripped and I totally let go, something amazing happened. Some
of our friends from church prayed for me and I got to the point where I said…”Lord, you are my
provider…You are my lord…in You I trust. Whatever you want to do with me is fine.” It wasn’t like I
didn’t pray before…I did…a lot. But there is a big difference when you finally completely let go and
repent of all anger, unforgiveness, resentment, pride, etc.
A week later, totally out of the blue and not because of anything I did, I received a call from a
stranger offering me the best job I’d ever had. An old friend who I hadn’t talked with in ears referred
me. It was nothing short of a miracle…just the way it happened…it was eerie.
Looking back, I realized that I just had gotten ahead of God…like I do sometime. Lesson – it’s wise to
seek his counsel and wait on the Lord!
I hope my story has given you hope and some direction. It’s never wrong to seek God, before and or
after failure. He is always ready to respond. Frankly, I don’t know how people cope without God…I
guess that’s why people do drugs, take pills or drink alcohol. There is no doubt in my mind that God
is the better choice…he brings true and lasting healing and recovery from failure to success.

Do you feel worthless? Do you feel like you’re a mistake? Don’t Believe It!
You are special – You are uniquely and beautifully made!
I remember as a child, my mother told me in the heat of an argument that she was sorry I was born.
When I was in my twenties, she told me the story how she tried to abort me 3 times. These
statements surely had a negative affect on me well into my 30s. Thank God, he has healed me from
the stings of these words. Today, I look at these happenings in a very different way….despite the fact
that my mom tried to abort me several times…God willed me into existence. What incredible plan God
must have for my life. It made me also realize that my words might have hurt people and that we
need to be careful about what we say to one another. The subconscious can’t take a joke.
Words are one thing. I can only imagine the abuse some of you might have had to endure. Some of
you might had to endure not only verbal abuse but also physical and sexual abuse. Watching the
movie “Precious” gave a glimpse of what that would be like.
Abuses like that can make you feel worthless and full of shame. I understand that there are even
symptoms of guilt with being sexually abused, making you feel like that somehow it’s your fault you
have been abused. Let me make it perfectly clear…these are all lies of the enemy, who wants nothing
less than to kill and destroy you. Don’t you believe it!
You are special!
There is only one like you and God has a plan for your life. He willed you and me into existence. Let’s
take a look at what the Bible says about your and my existence.
For You formed my inward parts; You covered me in my mother’s womb. Psalms 139:13 (NKJV)
I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Marvelous are Your works, And that my
soul knows very well. Psalms 139:14 (NKJV)
“Are not two sparrows sold for a copper coin? And not one of them falls to the ground apart from your
Father’s will. “But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. “Do not fear therefore; you are of
more value than many sparrows. Matt 10:29-31 (NKJV)
Your eyes saw my substance, being yet unformed. And in Your book they all were written, The days
fashioned for me, When as yet there were none of them. How precious also are Your thoughts to me,
O God! How great is the sum of them! Psalms 139:16-17 (NKJV)
God Loves You!
In this the love of God was manifested toward us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the
world, that we might live through Him. In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us
and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins. 1 John 4:9-10 (NKJV)
“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should
not perish but have everlasting life. ”For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the
world, but that the world through Him might be saved. John 3:16-17 (NKJV)
God Can Help
The name of the LORD is a strong tower; The righteous run to it and are safe. Prov 18:10 (NKJV)
He gives power to the weak, And to those who have no might He increases strength. Isaiah 40:29
(NKJV)
He heals the brokenhearted And binds up their wounds. Psalms 147:3 (NKJV)
Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help
you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.’ Isaiah 41:10 (NKJV)
Blessed are those who mourn, For they shall be comforted. Matt 5:4 (NKJV)
“Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. ”Take My yoke upon
you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. ”For
My yoke is easy and My burden is light.” Matt 11:28-30 (NKJV)
New Beginnings
We can’t undo our past, at the same time however, we should not live with our false past identity. I
surely could have not done it myself. God has not only healed me, but he has also given me a new
identity…one that is based on my true identity that is in Christ. As a Christian, we are no longer
bound by our old identity…we’re a new creation.
Jesus is waiting. Ask him to give you a new identity. His word says…”Ask, and it will be given to you;
seek, and you will find; knock, and it wll be opened to you. “or everyone who asks receives, and he
who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened. Matt 7:7-8 (NKJV)
Don’t ever give up, because God has not given up on you! You can choose to cling to your loss or
hurt, or you can , with the help from God, learn to dance again. LET GO AND LIVE!

Lost and Found

May 19, 2010 | Posted by joannes

I hadn’t thought about my grammar school days for a long time, but one day they boldly invaded my
thoughts. I remembered the friends I played with and even recalled the names of my favorite
teachers. My classroom, with the big clock on the wall and the old-fashioned desk I sat in, were as
visible in my mind as if I’d seen them just yesterday.
Somewhere along the line, I began thinking of the school’s lost-and-found department. That’s where
lost sweaters, lunch pails, broken toys and miscellaneous items were kept until their owners came to
find them.
As my thoughts wandered, it occurred to me that, in a sense, there are many people who are like
these items in the lost and found. They’re “lost,” and whether they realize it or not, are very much in
need of being “found.”
Although they keep busy each day, deep inside they feel empty and without purpose, wishing for
something or someone to bring meaning to their lives. Even if they’re successful in business or have
all “the toys” the world has to offer, they don’t feel satisfied. They’re confused about the meaning of
life, and even wonder why they were born. They ask themselves, “Is this all there is?”
Does this sound like you?
There is a book we don’t hear mentioned much anymore, but for hundreds of years it has shown
people how to be “found.” Years ago, many people believed what it said and lived their lives by its
words. It brought peace to the reader’s heart and gave guidance for their daily living. In this book,
they found instructions for living successfully, now and in the afterlife, as well. And this book was the
first place to which those people turned for help when they were stressed or didn’t know what to do.
Today people think it’s too old fashioned to be any value in the twenty-first century. How could this
particular old book, written so long ago, have all the answers for people living today?
Let’s just say it is unlike any other book ever written, and if you take the time to read it, slowly and
thoughtfully, you will see just how pertinent it is to today’s world – and to you!
It’s no secret. This book is the Bible, and here are things you might not know about it:
First of all, although it is only one book, it’s really a compilation of sixty-six short books. It is
good to begin reading it, not at the beginning, although that’s okay, but in one of the little books
toward the back, called The First Epistle of John. It talks about the most pressing need of mankind in
this or any century, and it tells how to take care of that need. Another little book to read is called The
Epistle of Paul the Apostle to the Romans. Check out Chapter 3, verses10-12, and 23. From there,
find Chapter 5, verse 12, Chapter 6, verse 23, and Chapter 5, verse 8. Then read Chapter 10, verses
9-13. If you read the verses in that order, you’ll learn some pretty amazing stuff, showing both a
problem and the solution. From there, you might want to meet the man who is talked about in the
books of The Gospels According to Matthew, Mark, Luke and John.
In the middle of this big book is a little book called The Book of Psalms. It actually contains words to
songs written a long time ago. Chapter 139 tells about you before you were born. Cool, huh?
Do you wonder about the formation of earth? Then start reading in the very first book, The First Book
of Moses Called Genesis. And if you want to learn about the end of the world, read the last book, The
Revelation. It’s pretty heavy stuff, and it will cause you to think serious thoughts about what it says.
Here are some other places to look:
When you think nobody loves you, read The Gospel of John Chapter 3, verse16 and Chapter 13, verse
34. You’ll see someone actually does love you – a whole lot.
If you can’t figure things out, consult The Book of Proverbs Chapter 3, verses 5-6. It shows you what
to do.
When you can’t forgive yourself, the most important person can. Read The First Epistle of John,
Chapter 1, verse 9 and The Epistle of Paul the Apostle to the Romans Chapter 8, verse 1 to see who it
is, and what He has already done for you.
If you’re always worried and frustrated, you’ll love The First Epistle of Peter Chapter 5, verse 7.
When you’re feeling lonely, The Epistle to the Hebrews Chapter 13, verse 5 tells you who is there for
you.
Are you in an impossible situation? See who The Gospel According to Luke Chapter 18, verse 27 tells
you to talk to.
Yes, all this information, and more, is found in the Bible. Many have read it attempting to
prove it is just a myth, full of errors, or at the very least, not pertinent to their lives. Instead, those
who once felt “lost” have been “found,” finding meaning and purpose for their everyday lives. And
they have become believers in this book and the man about whom the entire book refers.
Okay. That was a good book for people long ago, but what about you? Have you ever read
the Bible?
What do you think would happen if you did?

LeBron James signs with Miami Heat; what it means, and how
to have a truly loyal Friend who will help you through
anything

July 8, 2010 | Posted by dtf955

It’s official. LeBron James has announced on ESPN he will sign with the Miami Heat. A story with a lot
of speculation has finally ended. Now, one of the best NBA players today has his next few years set.
This is important, because in all this talk about his loyalty, when “King James” might win an NBA title,
or whether Chris Bosh might have refused to join him in Cleveland or not, there are other things to
look at in this story: things such as talent, money, loyalty, and the manning of life.
Really. Because, no matter what happened with him, there is a faithful friend to save you from the
evils of this world, help you build Heavenly treasures that last forever, and, help you make the right
decisions, no matter what.
1. Obviously, it means he’s got a lot of basketball talent. Top actors get millions of dollars for acting
talent. Top athletes get the same for athletic talent. Their jobs, as entertainers, aren’t as crucial as
many others, but they share one thing: In this society, they can earn tons of money based on the fact
they’ve used their God-given talent to the best of their ability.
We don’t often think about actors and actresses making millions per role, because we only see them in
movies or on TV. They’ve gotten their millions long before the movie or show we see. If it bombs, they
can hide behind the character, or the script gets blamed. Athletes, on the other hand, do what they do
thousands of times a season – shoot a ball, throw, putt, what have you. Their misses pile up more
than that performer’s one big miss on the big screen or TV, which is surrounded by so much else.
Both, however, use abilities that aren’t their own. Sure, hours of practice a day pays off, and some
have to work harder. But, most people couldn’t shoot a basketball while being guarded like even the
worst NBA player, even practicing 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Most people couldn’t memorize
every line flawlessly, doing all the proper inflections and really bringing a character to life, for months
at a time. Yes, there are club pros in golf and local radio station voice actors who pitch great local
businesses. But, these are far cries from Tiger Woods or Tom Hanks – or even the Maytag Repairman.
Jesus tells us to consider the gifts God gave us, and thank Him for them. None of us can add an inch
to our stature by mere thought.(Mat. 6:27) We can’t just think and suddenly become talented. God
gives some people those talents, just as He gives some people other gifts, such as teaching, or the
ability to learn manual skills like plumbing, or complex math.
Every one of us has different skills. You have a special skill, even if you don’t quite know what it is yet.
If you put energy into it, you can accomplish great things with God’s help. However, remember that
this skill is something you were born with, something given by God. We need to be thankful for our
skills.
2. LeBron will also get a lot of money. No, some people don’t get as much money as others for their
skills. And, some are certainly more important than acting or athletic ones. However, the important
thing is, God sees and understands what you are given. And, He will reward you in the end, if you use
it for Him and build treasure in Heaven.
The old maxim is true that money doesn’t buy happiness. It can buy things that make us happy for a
time. Still, in the end, those things will grow old, wear out, lose value, or even, possibly, be taken
from us. However, Heavenly treasure will be forever new, and can never be taken away. This means
that LeBron will get a lot of something that will one day have no value. But, he can use it to build
rewards in Heaven by helping others.
However, God doesn’t care about how much money we have here on earth. He cares about our heart.
He knows our hearts, and just wants us to give what we have for Him. He doesn’t care that we don’t
have a lot – Jeuss said that s widow who gave a few little coins as an offering had given more than a
rich person who gave millions.
Even when we mess up and go after our own desires, though, God will lovingly call us back to Himself,
so we can choose to do that which is right. Because, He is always loyal to us, alwys faithful even when
we’re not.
3. Loyalty was discussed during the debate over where LeBron would go.
We need to keep focused on the one who is always loyal and faithful, though. It’s easy to put our trust
in people. However, God has given us His Word, that He had something special for us. He has a plan
for each person’s life that is better than we could ever plan for ourselves. He has a plan for LeBron’s
life. Whether LeBron followed God’s plan, I’m not sure; nobody can know his heart for certain but God
Himself.
We know one thing, though. Since different people wanted different things, God’s plan went against
some peoples’ idea of what he should do. That’s normal, and it shows that our ways aren’t always
best. If LeBron doesn’t know God personally, God can use this to lovingly draw LeBron to Him.
When we don’t like what goes on in our lives, all we have to do is trust in God. He will always do
what’s best for us. Each of us is where we are in life today, because God has put us there, or God – in
His love giving us free will to choose – allowed us to get there so God could help us to learn more
about His great love for us. That is the loyalty God has for us, always working to make things better in
our lives, though we sometimes flat refuse and turn away from Him.
The awesome thing is, He can be loyal to all who have received Him at once, as He lovingly calls those
who haven’t. Because, He has ways to work things for the best for each of us in the end. Romans 8:28
promises that “All things work together for good to them that love God, to them that are called
according to his purpose.”
So, no matter what, God can work it for good, along with all the other things in life. Because, God is
always trying to work things together for good, to those who love Him; even if our choices get in the
way. The story of LeBron James is one of a person who has made a lot out of his God-given talent,
using it to play a game. I don’t know if he’s doing anything for the Lord to earn eternal treasures in
Heaven, or if so, what it is. Only God knows his heart, and whether His perfect will played any role in
LeBraon’s decision.
Life, though, is all about putting others first, and using those talent to bring glory and honor to God by
drawing others to His great love. Because, He is willing that none perish, but that all come to
repentance. He will be loyal to all who come to Him by faith.
It won’t always be just what we want, but for those who receive Him, they will have a faithful Friend
who will live in them and always work things together for good.
How do I have that in my life?
It’s as easy as ABC – Admit, Believe, Choose.
A. Admit you need Him in your heart and life to save you. See, all we like sheep have gone astray;
we have turned each one to his own way. And, the Lord hath laid on Him the iniquity of us all. (Is.
53:6) This means all of us have turned away from Him. Oh, we might not have meant to, but we do,
because we choose our own way.
LeBron is just like you and I and everyone else in one important way. All have sinned, and come short
of the glory of God. (Rom. 3:23) That means we’ve all fallen short of His mark, which is perfection.
Whether he chose what God wanted, I don’t know, but each of us has sinned – that means we’ve
fallen short of God’s standard of perfection.
We need saved from that sin, because only then can we have that relationship with God here, and be
in His perfect Heaven someday; a place where there is no pain, no suffering, no tears. Nobody can do
mean stuff there. No one can imagine the wonderful things that will be there. There won’t be any sin,
though, so we must accept we need God to take the punishment for our sins, and change us on the
inside. The wages – what we earn – of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal lie through Jesus
Christ our Lord. (Rom. 6:23)
Next is:
B Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved. (Acts 16:31) That means to believe that
Jesus Christ is God in flesh (John 1:1, 14; 10:30; etc.), and that He took your punishment for your sin
when he died on the cross for you and rose from the dead. He shed His blood for you; because that
was the only price high enough to cleanse this whole world from sin. He died for you, but then, He
rose from the dead, just as He will raise us one day, some to eternal life, some to everlasting
destruction.
You must believe that He took the whole punishment for your sins when He did that. There is nothing
you could do, because none of us can achieve perfection. And, He has to make it perfect, or it
wouldn’t be Heaven. If He let even one drop of sin into Heaven, there would be suffering somewhere,
or pain, or something else bad. Then, it wouldn’t be Heaven. So, He has to keep all sin out.
Finally,
C. Choose to repent and receive Him as your personal Savior. That means that you need to choose to
let Him make you new on the inside. If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; old things are passed
away, all things are become new. (2 Cor. 5:17)
Once you have done that, you can know for sure you in his family (1 John 5:13), if you have received
Him by simple faith. (John 1:12)
That’s how Jesus makes you fit for Heaven. He first changes you when you trust Him to save you by
simple faith. You receive Him into your heart by calling on Him to save you and repenting – turning
from your sin. Once you invite Him into your heart, Jesus lives in you through God the Holy Spirit.
Then, He will help you grow to be more like Him; more loving, compassionate, and so on.
You can receive that now – while the prayer itself doesn’t save you, you can pray something like this,
in your own words, and receive Him into your heart and life: “Dear Lord Jesus, I know I’m a sinner. I
know I haven’t always done what’s right. I’ve tried my way, Lord, and I realize I need to trust You
completely instead. I believe You died on the cross for my sins, and rose from the dead; You took my
punishment for my sins, because I couldn’t get to Your perfect heaven myself. Lord Jesus, I invite You
into my heart to live in me and change me on the inside, so I can follow Your perfect ways, and have
a Friend to help me if I mess up. Thank you Lord Jesus, for hearing my prayer, saving my soul, and
coming to live in my heart, In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
It’s not the prayer that saves. But, it’s your faith, which you can remember putting in Jesus easier
when you have a time you know you prayed to receive Him.
And when you receive Him, He will never leave you, nor forsake you. (Heb. 13:5) He will help you to
make all the right decisions, if you just trust Him, because He will always give wisdom to those who
ask. (James 1:5)

HOW TO FIND HAPPINESS-CONQUERING YOUR FEARS

Key #5 to Happiness – Living without fear.

One thing among many that I hated prior to knowing Jesus Christ and the love of the Father intimately

was some Christian spouting off “Christianese” at me. It was like a sugar-coated secret language that

I could only learn after I gave up everything I had, everything I loved and I got ready to wear sack

cloth and ashes. Not a very inviting prospective.

So, in order to not be one of those “people”, let me start this article with various things I found that

were not in the bible.

I decided to search on my own via the vast search engines available to us for the things I would be

talking about in this article. Happiness…joy….fear. Wow! Who knew how often these

questions/words/solutions were addressed! I couldn’t list them all. Here are a few:

Happiness: the emotion evoked by well-being, success, or good fortune or by the prospect of

possessing what one desires : delight b : the expression or exhibition of such emotion : gaiety

2 : a state of happiness or felicity : bliss 3 : a source or cause of delight

And….

“One way to understand the difference between joy and happiness is to look at the opposites of the

two feelings. The opposite of joy is fear while the opposite of happiness is unhappiness and misery.”

Diffen.com

I liked this. The opposite of joy was fear. OK. What else? Again, the search reference for the word

“fear” was endless. One definition of “fear” that I felt said it all:

F–FALSE

E–EVIDENCE

A–APPEARING

R—REAL

Then there were the unlimited famous/infamous quotations which I shrunk down to this small list:

“The only thing we have to fear is fear itself – nameless, unreasoning, unjustified, terror which

paralyzes needed efforts to convert retreat into advance.” FDR – First Inaugural Address, March

4, 1933

Courage is not the lack of fear but the ability to face it.” Lt. John B. Putnam Jr. (1921-1944)

“The oldest and strongest emotion of mankind is fear.” H.P. Lovecraft

“The greatest obstacle to love is fear. It has been the source of all defects in human behavior

throughout the ages.” Mahmoud Mohammed Taha

Fear makes the wolf bigger than he is.” German Proverb

I have German ancestors. None of them bothered to share that last one with me. I don’t think anyone

bothered to share it with them either. On the contrary, all my ancestral roots (not limited to the
Germanic only) learned to rule and dominate others with fear. It was a successful maneuver in many

ways because it got people to do, or not to do, whatever they wanted. The bad news…it kept many

from achieving all they could possibly be or were designed to be by Almighty God. Call it fear of

failure, fear of success, fear of confrontation, fear of rejection, fear of abandonment, etc. It was still

the same four letter word causing the same havoc and destruction of joy or happiness. FEAR!

This can be taught, learned, experienced or generational. It matters not from whence it came. It is a

killer of life. It is a killer of dreams. It is a killer of others…either in their spirit or in their body.

I wanted to know how to stop this paralyzing and destructive force in my life. I wanted to have a

better life. I tried everything from meditation to other forms of “religious and mind-empowering

practices.” None of them worked. Some cost money. Most were not freely given. When all else failed I

learned about something I hadn’t tried yet.

“But these are written (recorded) in order that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ (the Anointed

One), the Son of God, and that through believing and cleaving to and trusting and relying upon Him

you may have life through (in) His name [ through Who He is].” John 20:31

The Lord promises a free gift…His gift of love. The gift of Jesus. Someone who really thinks you’re

important and really cares. It’s like having a great big daddy Who is always standing guard at all times

so I can rest and not worry…and be happy:

“But [even] the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Do not be struck with fear or seized with

alarm; you are of greater worth than many [flocks] of sparrows.” Luke 12:7

If you’ve never experienced this love, you’re missing one of the first tools to overcoming this four

letter word (FEAR) and all its deadly entanglements. He promised us that “Perfect love gets rid of fear”

and the name of Jesus is the embodiment of that perfect love demonstrated on this earth. It’s a name

that He encouraged us to call out – JESUS. The name that every/all powers must bow their knee to…

JESUS! This was the name…the word… I learned to use early on with my walk through my personal

battles.

You see, some of it this freedom walk was not easy for me and is not easy for most. The gift to start

on the journey was/is free. But, like any good workout and muscle building program, you (we) have to

do some of the work. Many times I wished that the trainer would do the exercises, magically touch my
body and I’d be fifty pounds lighter and able to do things I did when I was twenty! But alas, this is

not possible. I have and had to do the work.

The reward was great as I strengthened my faith muscles and started to chip away at all the fear-

based ideology that had been imbedded in me. I now look at “stuff” that is taking away my peace, my

happiness and ask the Lord what the cause may be. One of the main questions that I usually ask is…

”What am I afraid of?”

If you find yourself battling this four letter word…start with His free gift. If you haven’t invited Jesus

into your life as your Lord and Savior…give HIM a try. This Web site has tools on how to do this. It

won’t cost you a thing. It’s between you and Him. He’s not like a lot of people who beat you over the

head to get you to do something. No…it’s just the opposite. He stands at the door to your heart,

knocks and then waits for an invitation to come in. He’s not pushy or punitive. He doesn’t want you to

be afraid of Him. He’ll wait until you say “yes.” He won’t judge. He’ll wait until your “yes.”

Will happiness come immediately? I don’t know. Each and every experience is different. Like our

fingerprints, no two people are alike. But I can guarantee one thing. You will never be alone again.

You will always have the name of a Friend who you can on call at any time. JESUS. Once you mention

His name…all hell runs away. They don’t like to be reminded of the ONE who is really in charge, who is

really love and who will never leave us or forsake us.

Try studying these one day at a time for seven days. Have hope, have happiness and become

fearless!

Day #1

The Lord is on my side; I will not fear. What can man do to me. Psalm 118:6

Day #2

Peace I leave with you; My [own] peace I now give and bequeath to you. Not as the world gives do I

give to you. Do not let your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid. [Stop allowing yourselves

to be agitated and disturbed; and do not permit yourselves to be fearful and intimidated and cowardly

and unsettled.] John 14:27

Day #3

For [the Spirit which] you have now received [is] not a spirit of slavery to put you once more in
bondage to fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption [the Spirit producing son-ship] in [the

bliss of] which we cry, Abba (Father)! Father! Romans 8:15

Day #4

In Whom, because of our faith in Him, we dare to have the boldness (courage and confidence) of free

access (an unreserved approach to God with freedom and without fear). Ephesians 3:12

Day #5

And do not [for a moment] be frightened or intimidated in anything by your opponents and

adversaries, for such [constancy and fearlessness] will be a clear sign (proof and seal) to them of

[their impending] destruction, but [a sure token and evidence] of your deliverance and salvation, and

that from God. Philippians 1:28

Day #6

For God did not give us a spirit of timidity (of cowardice, of craven and cringing and fawning fear),

but [He has given us a spirit] of power and of love and of calm and well-balanced mind and discipline

and self-control. 2 Timothy 1:7

Day #7

So we take comfort and are encouraged and confidently and boldly say, The Lord is my Helper; I will

not be seized with alarm [I will not fear or dread or be terrified]. What can man do to me? Hebrews

13:6

Webster Definition For Happiness: A state of well-being and contentment; a pleasurable

satisfaction.
Wikipedia Definition For Happiness:
Happiness is a state of mind or feeling characterized by contentment, love, satisfaction, pleasure, or
joy.
A variety of biological, psychological, religious, and philosophical approaches have striven to define
happiness and identify its sources.
The state of happiness can be illusive and even if achieved, it can be a hard thing to hold on to in this
world – especially if we look for happiness in the usual places.
I remember when I first came to the US from Austria. More than anything, I wanted to prove that I
could be a success. Like many people around the world, for decades I had heard about how anything
was possible in America. Anyone who was willing to work hard could live the American dream.
Well, it was true for me. I quickly “fell” into an industry that I discovered I really loved –
advertising. I worked very hard and became one of the top ad sales people in the company. I
achieved what most people would consider great success…the American dream.
Why wasn’t it as satisfying as I had imagined? I started to realize that being a business success
wasn’t all it was cracked up to be. As I made more and more money, I was able to buy more and
better things but I quickly came to the same conclusion that many before me have discovered – that
happiness has little or nothing to do with how much money we have or the square footage of the
house we live in.
If you’re still on that path, let me save you some time. Don’t get me wrong, it’s great to have more
than enough, however, worldly success will not give you happiness. Just look at the many examples
of people who seemingly have it all but are so unhappy they end up overdosing on drugs or self-
destruct in other ways. At the same time, some people who live in horrendous poverty, where the
kids don’t even own a pair of shoes, seem to be happy. So am I saying that you have to be poor to
find happiness? No, not at all.
So what are the keys to happiness? Well, I believe one of the first is a state of being and state of
mind…the way we look at life, money, possession, family, friends and this world. Discovering this key
unlocks many other doors.
Over the next few months, we’ll look at the meaning and the keys to happiness not just in principles,
we’ll also include exercises we can do to help us change the way we look at life and make us happier
people in the process. We’ll focus on one key lesson at a time and practice and meditate on it over
and over for an entire week.

Key #1 to Happiness – A relationship with God

I believe that having a relationship with God through Jesus Christ is the most important key to
finding happiness.
“In Your presence is fullness of joy; At Your right hand are pleasures forevermore”. Psalms 16:11
(NKJV)
Knowing the one who made you, who planned your every feature and personality trait, who saw every
day of your life before the foundation of the world – knowing this one is truly the cornerstone and the
foundation of happiness.
There are several reasons why we experience happiness through a relationship with God. Through
this relationship, we find our origin, purpose, and destiny, which is a prerequisite to happiness (Read
Gen. 1; Eccl. 12:13 and Matt. 25: 46).
It’s part of our DNA and how we were made.
An iPhone without any applications just wouldn’t be the same device.
A bicycle is meant to have wheels, without which it won’t work
A car meant to have steering…without it, it will drive, however, it will not work at it’s potential.
As humans, we’re meant to have deep emotional connections with others, without which there will be
a void in our lives that can’t be replaced by anything else.
A baby is meant to have a mom and a dad who loves and cares for them, without which the baby will
grow into a person with psychological issues through much of their lives.
When we ignore our need for God, life does not seem to work correctly. In the same way as the
above examples, God made us to have relationship with Him. In a sense, God completes us. When
we choose to ignore that relationship, we fight against nature and our purpose and therefore elude
happiness.
The Bible also says…“and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts
and minds through Christ Jesus”.
Phil 4:6-7 (NKJV)
“Happy are the people whose God is the LORD”! Psalms 144:15 (NKJV)
“These things I have spoken to you, that my joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be full”.
John 15:11 (NKJV)
Some people mistakenly believe that when we become Christians, we will not have any more
problems. The Bible clearly tells us that we will have trouble in this life. The good news is that when
we have a relationship with him, God becomes our great comforter in times of trouble.
”these things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have
tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.” John 16:33 (NKJV)
“Whom have I in heaven but You? And there is none upon earth that I desire besides you. My flesh
and my heart fail; But God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever”. Psalms 73:25-26
(NKJV)
“Remember the word to Your servant, Upon which You have caused me to hope. This is my comfort
in my affliction, For Your word has given me life”. Psalms 119:49-50 (NKJV)
“The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads
me beside the still waters. He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness For His
name’s sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For
You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me”. Psalms 23:1-4 (NKJV)
For additional verses check out our article on “Comfort”.
The biggest reason to start a relationship with God through Jesus His Son, the one and only Savior
Messiah, is not for happiness…that is just a by-product. The biggest reason to accept Jesus as our
savior is because He was the only One capable of paying our ransom. There will be a judgment day.
On that day, we will all be judged for our sins. He does not use a sliding scale but judges by his
perfect standard. There is only one way to have a perfect record…it’s not by being a good person
(check out “Are you a good person” – A test), but to accept His Son, Jesus as your savior. He has
paid the price for our sins, however, we need to accept that gift in order to receive it. Once we accept
Jesus as our Savior, there is a peace and happiness that comes from knowing that regardless of
what disappointments or losses we face here on earth, our eternity is secure. This is a peace like no
other…in good and in bad times.

Key #2 to Happiness – Being Thankful!

I don’t think that we can be happy if we don’t have a sense of thanksgiving for the good things in our
lives. Being thankful takes effort. Naturally, most of us focus on our problems, on what we lack
and what ails us. Let’s face it…every one of us has some areas of our lives that are difficult and
confusing. Some of these challenges are short term and some are life-long burdens. Some are self-
inflicted and some are not our fault.
No matter how positive any one of us may be, there are times when a problem gets the best of us. I
must admit, as I write this, I am preaching to myself as well as sharing my thoughts with you. Last
week at work, for example, I let some of the pressures get to me. We were trying to keep an
important client happy, and everyone (including my direct manager and even the President of the
company) had a passionate opinion about what I should do. Unfortunately, the client had totally
different ideas and I was walking that thin line of carrying the burden of keeping everyone happy. The
pressure even affected my life at home. (My wife would say it wasn’t that bad, but I can see the
difference when I don’t have much time for her)
I realize that some of you have much more serious problems. Some of you might have lost your job
or you lost your dream home du to foreclosure…some of you might have been informed that you have
some serious illness, possibly even a life threatening one. A dear relative of ours is living through
everyone’s worst nightmare – the untimely death of one of their children in their 20’s. How can one
ever get past such a deep tragedy? Is it even possible? A better question is – does God really know
what’s going on down here? Does He see the pain you’re in, the impossible boss, the rebellious
spouse or child, the empty bank account, or worse?
These situations are taking you by surprise, but not God. He tells us that He saw every day of our
lives before the foundation of the world – that every day of your life has been recorded in His book.
(God says this right after He tells you that He has more good thoughts about you than there are
grains of sand on all the seas of the world) He has a plan for you that goes way beyond your life on
this planet – He has great plans for you throughout all eternity! Since everyone will have different
assignments after life on earth, each of us has to be prepared differently. God has a wonderful future
designed for you! So you don’t want to be fighting against Him.
Our disappointments, losses and pressures, if not checked, can consume us and make our lives a
living hell. The question is…can we find happiness even when experiencing serious problems? The
answer is yes. One of the keys to happiness is making a conscious decision and effort to take our
focus off our problems and focus of all the good things in our lives…being thankful for those.
Some of you might argue that there is nothing to be thankful for. On the surface that might seem
true…but you’d be surprised. I admit that this is not always easy but try we must nevertheless.
Personally, when I struggle with problems, I bring God into the situation, eventually. As a stubborn
Austrian, of course, I usually try to handle the problem first by myself… you know, my way! But
without Him, the whole situation inevitably gets worse. Yes, I usually attempt a fix the hard way but
then after several setbacks, I let Him take over. The earlier in the challenge I surrender the issue to
Him, the less pain I experience. Why is that so hard to remember? I don’t know why I need to re-
learn the lesson over and over again.
Frankly, giving Him our issues is the first thing we should do. Did you know that God actually loves to
hear from us about our problems? He wants to be involved. He is an amazing God that heals,
provides, protects, restores and so much more. Below are some Bible verses…
The LORD is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer; My God, my strength, in whom I will trust;
My shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. Psalms 18:2 (NKJV)
God is our refuge and strength, A very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, Even
though the earth be removed, And though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea; Psalms
46:1-2 (NKJV)
You, who have shown me great and severe troubles, Shall revive me again, And bring me
up again from the depths of the earth. Psalms 71:20 (NKJV)
As a father pities his children, So the LORD pities those who fear Him. Psalms 103:13 (NKJV)
When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; And through the rivers, they shall not overflow
you. When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, Nor shall the flame scorch you. Isaiah
43:2 (NKJV)
Blessed are those who mourn, For they shall be comforted. Matt 5:4 (NKJV)
Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, For theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
”Blessed are you when they revile and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely for
My sake. ”Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted
the prophets who were before you.
Matt 5:10-12 (NKJV)
“Are not two sparrows sold for a copper coin? And not one of them falls to the ground apart from your
Father’s will. ”But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. ”Do not fear therefore; you are of
more value than many sparrows. Matt 10:29-31 (NKJV)
We are hard pressed on every side, yet not crushed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; 2
Corinthians 4:8 (NKJV)
Therefore we do not lose heart. Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is
being renewed day by day. For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far
more exceeding and eternal weight of glory, 2 Corinthians 4:16-17 (NKJV)
So let’s take some time and think about all the things that are good in your life…your health…your
husband or wife…your kids… your job…the fact you live in America…that you have roof over your
head…that you can see…hear…walk…talk…and that Jesus died for you. If you’re having trouble with
this, just take some extra time to think about it…it will be worth it. It’s amazing how many things
most of us can come up with.
It is important to write these things down as you come up with these items. Then read them out laud
several times per day. It’s really amazing what just that little exercise will do help us experience
happiness. Here is what the Bible says about being thankful…
Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your

Key #3 to Happiness – Forgive Yourself!

“If you have made mistakes, even serious ones, there is always another chance
for you. You may have a fresh start any moment you choose. For this thing we
call “failure” is not the falling down, but the staying down.”
–Mary Pickford, Canadian actress
As Christians, we are taught at an early age to forgive others. We even recite in the Lord’s Prayer, “…
we forgive those who trespass against us.” And I am sure that must of us can recall the line from a
poem written by English writer Alexander Pope, “To err is human, to forgive is divine.”
We learn that we must also ask God for His forgiveness when we sin or otherwise go against God’s
word. 1 John 1:9 (NIV) admonishes us, “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive
us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” But how do we learn to forgive ourselves?
If you are anything like me, you may be your own worst critic. You may spend countless hours beating
yourself up tor making a few mistakes in your life. You may obsess over such things as “Why did I
make that stupid comment in the business meeting this morning?” or “Why did I take the expressway
this morning instead of the local streets? Now I am stuck in all this traffic!” Or you may be agonizing
over a misdirected life decision, “Why did i major in Computer Science in college instead of English? I
always did enjoy writing. Why didn’t I follow my passion?” Or you may be struggling with other issues
like a car accident that turned out to be your fault or a failed marriage that ended in divorce. Looking
back on these incidents now, they may seem so trivial, but at the time, the thoughts or decisions may
have seemed like the most important issues in the world!
Just remember that God has a plan for your life. Jeremiah 29:11 tells us, “For I know the plans I have
for you, declares the LORD, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a
future.” Whatever road your life takes or whatever decisions that you are making, it will all work out
for the good in the long run. Romans 8:28, “And we know that all things work together for good to
those who love God, who have been called according to his purpose.” As long as you continue to trust
God and put him first in your life you will succeed. Romans 8:37, “No, in all these things we are more
than conquerors through him who loved us.” Proverbs 3:5-6, “Trust in the LORD with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will will direct
your paths.”
Don’t forget to continue thanking God for all that He has done for you. Ha is still working through
you, even in the most difficult of times. And yes, even when God seems silent, He is still there with
you!
So if you are currently working toward a specific goal on life’s journey and what you thought was
going to work out several months ago is no longer working out for you, don’t give up! Take some time
to regroup. Revise your plans, reshape your goals, and get back in there!

“… a lot of times the world doesn’t put rocks in our way. Instead we put them
there ourselves. When we hold on to our mistakes, we’re throwing rocks in our
own path… when we detach ourselves from worry and let go of our mistakes,
the road always opens up. That’s why if you want to make a commitment to
never quitting, one of the first steps is to simply get out of your own way.”
– Russell Simmons, hip hop mogul (with Chris Morrow), in his book, Do You! 12 Laws to Access the Power in
You to Achieve Happiness and Success
Don’t waste any more time continuing to be angry with yourself and by all means, forgive yourself for
not getting it right this time. Whatever the issue was. Move forward with your life, starting with right
now!
What is Self-Forgiveness?
To forgive oneself is not to make excuses for oneself. To forgive ourselves is:
–to pledge to learn from our mistakes;
–to gain a degree of self-control and not repeat them;
–to grow in our capacity for love and peace.
This article may be a helpful resource for you as well, How To Forgive Yourself & Stop Feeling Guilty
The next time you start beating yourself up for doing something wrong, ask yourself the following
questions: from personal success coach Lisa Phillips: visit her website here
1. At the time of the event, was it realistic for you to expect yourself to do something different /
behave in a different way?
2. Did you have the right people around you at the time that could have helped you?
3. At the time of the event, did you have the information or knowledge you needed to make a better
choice?
Forgiving yourself for your limitations is a crucial first step in healing your life. In an unprecedented
time of turmoil and stress, most human beings are doing the best they can with the resources,
wisdom, and knowledge they have available to them. Yes, it’s important to learn from your mistakes,
but eventually you need to get the lesson and move on.
Learn From Your Mistakes
Trying to learn from your mistakes is a very healthy way of dealing with them. A reflection of what
you have learned from your mistakes would be a perceptible change in your behavior. Remember that
committing a mistake is not a crime, but repeating it, surely is! We learn from our mistakes, as we
have to pay a price for them. To err is human and to learn how to avoid the same mistake in the
future is also within human capacity.
Encourage Yourself To Move On
Realize that your life is not going to end or stagnate just because of a mistake of yours. Probably, the
biggest lesson life teaches us is to move on. Forgive yourself completely and look forward to the
future, which is always brighter and full of hope. Languishing in past will not give you an opportunity
to time-travel to the bygone times and change things. Disembark yourself from past mistakes and
march ahead!
Share your mistakes
Holding things to yourself will make it increasingly difficult to forgive yourself and stop feeling guilty.
You can’t afford to keep wallowing in guilt over your wrongdoings. Remember that your mistakes
always add to your experience, as life is a continuous learning process. You can always share your
mistakes with others and warn them of the consequence that you suffered from. You will also get a
chance to vent out your frustration in a more constructive way.
Unburden Your Heart
If you believe that your mistake is too big to be forgiven and keeping it to yourself is killing you, speak
up and lift that burden off your heart. Confess your mistake in front of a close friend, whose guidance
you trust and value. A guilt-free existence is only possible when your mistakes are not perpetually
weighing on your conscience. Pardon yourself by pouring your heart out before someone you know will
make you feel better.

Don’t Judge Yourself

The worst people can do is to judge themselves by their mistakes. Being judgmental equals to being
disapproving, rather dismissive of the subject of our judgment. And, it gets worse when we are
disapproving of your own self. Always remember that you are not a reflection of your mistakes, which
are generic, but a manifestation of the good things that you do in life. If at all you want to grade
yourself, do that in a balanced way, not being overwhelmed by your errors.

Rituals for Forgiveness

Throughout history, there have been rituals that assisted in the process of forgiveness. Rabbi Irwin
Kula shares some of those time-honored rituals:

Meditation/Reflection: This is your first choice in the healing process. You cannot change the past, but
you can own the present moment.

Use a Mantra: This exercise will help you change your thought patterns. Every day, say to yourself, “I
forgive myself.” This is going to feel awkward at first, but keep doing it. This exercise is about
changing your thought patterns.
Journaling: Recording your thoughts in a journal is a valuable way of releasing your feelings. Each
time you feel guilt during the day, write it down in your journal. You will be able to track when you
feel this, and why, which will help you begin to understand your guilt. The same goes for the good
feelings you experience. Write down the moments when you feel joy and richness in your life, and you
will begin to recognize the things that release that joy.
Atonement: Learn how to consciously make a sacrifice in light of your desire for forgiveness. You can
create your own sacrifice by asking yourself, “What will be my offering?” It could be philanthropy,
political activism — something that requires a sacrifice of your time, money or effort. The key is to
consciously make that sacrifice in light of your desire for forgiveness.
Success And Failure – Keys to happiness exercise:
• Ask God for help (ask Jesus into your life if you have not done so already)
• Read “God’s love for us” and “God’s Mercy” every day this week.
• Ask others to pray for you

Key #4 to Happiness – Forgiving Others

A man was walking with his best friend, someone he had known for a very long time. As they walked,
they began to argue about some trivial issue. As they argued, they began to be very angry at one
another. The more they argued, the angrier they became. They got so angry at each other that the
man lost his temper and shoved his friend away from him. His friend stumbled and fell upon a board,
which had a loose, rusty nail sticking up from it. The nail pierced the man’s friend in the back.
The man, immediately sorry for what he had done, picked his friend up and took him home to wash
his wound and remove the rusty nail. “I’m so sorry,” he kept saying. “I don’t know what cam over me.
Please forgive me!”
“That’s your problem,” his friend said. “You’ve always had a bad temper. I’m going to teach you a
lesson. I’m going to leave this rusty nail in my back so that every time you see it you will remember
what your bad temper did you me.” Even when the rust nail eventually began to infect the wound in
the friend’s back, the friend refused to remove it and continued to remind the man of what he had
done and how wrong her was, right up until the day that the infection from the nail finally killed him.
It is so easy to look at this story and say, “How foolish! No one should keep a wound open in their
body just so they can hold it over the person who caused it! If that was me, I’d want to get healed as
soon as I could!” But hear this, Child of God; every day, in relationships all over the world, people are
doing just that to their own spirits, and the rusty nail that pierces them and drains their happiness
away is called UNFORGIVENESS.
The Danger of Unforgiveness.
In order to see unforgiveness in it’s proper light, it is first necessary to understand what it means to
forgive. In the Greek, the word forgive means: to free fully, relieve, release, dismiss, let die, pardon,
divorce, let go, loose, put away, and to set at liberty. The Bible makes it very clear that we as
followers of Christ are expected to forgive the wrongs that others may do to us: “And when you stand
praying, forgive, if you have ought against any.” (Mark 11:25)
Beyond question, then, the Bible expects us to let go of the hard feelings held against someone who
has done us wrong, no matter who, why, how, or what. Walking in forgiveness with others is one the
believer’s primary keys to finding their happiness in life. When we do not let go of the wrong that has
been done against us, but instead hold on to it, then we are walking in unforgiveness.
“So we walk in a little unforgiveness,” someone might say. “It’s only natural; besides, it’s the only way
we can protect ourselves from being used and hurt.” Oh, saints, how little we actually know about the
function of our own hearts! And how devious is our enemy, who deceives us into hurting others and
ourselves in a hundred little ways! How many saints do you know who pride themselves on how they
avoid adultery, fornication, murder and idolatry, only to fall prey to unforgiveness, bitterness and
lovelessness? How many relationships, friendships and marriages have crumbled and fallen because of
unforgiveness? There are too many to count! Out of the many things that damage relationships and
spiritual growth, it’s usually the small, seemingly minor attitudes that silently eat away at the
foundations until it is too late. “Take us the foxes, the little foxes, that spoil the vines; for our vines
have tender grapes” (Song of Solomon 2:15). The “little foxes” of unforgiveness will always spoil
the tender fruit of our relationships!
When unforgiveness enters our hearts, it erodes our ability to love, bond and trust, making us cold,
bitter and hard. It kills our ability to develop relationships and fellowship with others – even with the
Lord God Himself! “But when ye do not forgive, neither will your Father who is in heaven forgive your
trespasses” (Mark 11:26). Many people hold unforgiveness in their hearts in an effort to hurt the one
who first hurt them, not realizing that they are the ones who suffer the most! It is near impossible to
find happiness in life when you are holding on to forgiveness.
The Importance of Forgiving.
If you ask most saints what are some of the most important spiritual elements in their life, most will
tell you about tongues, spiritual gifts, prophecy, and the Word of God. Very few will include love and
forgiveness on their list. But what does the Word of God teach us? How does God want the unsaved to
respond to spiritual gifts and prophecy? Beloved, all of these wonderful abilities are intended to draw
unsaved souls to God that they might receive one thing: FORGIVENESS of their sins through Jesus
Christ!
“Be it known unto you therefore, man and brethren, that through [Jesus] is preached unto you
forgiveness of sins, and by Him all that believe are justified from all things.” (Acts 13:38-39)
Saints, forgiveness is not just a side issue in the Christian faith; it is the very center of the gospel
message. Jesus was made flesh and blood for this very reason – to break down the wall of separation
between man and God, that mankind might be saved from the righteous judgment of God and be
forgiven of their sinful acts and delivered from their sinful nature so that they might enjoy intimate
fellowship with God!
But if we want to continue receiving forgiveness of sins throughout our life (for truly we will need it!),
then God requires one thing of us all – that we completely forgive others like He constantly and
completely forgives us.
“Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. Be
kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you” (Eph.
4:31-32, NIV).
The Impact of Unforgiveness.
Despite the clear instructions of scripture, friendships, families, marriages, ministries, and lives are
being broken up at a frightening rate. People are turning to divorce, crime drugs, violence and gangs,
trying to stop their personal pain and find their life’s happiness. We are seeing Jesus’ prophecy come
true: “Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of many will grow cold.” (Matt. 24:12, NIV).
Why is this happening? Counselors and psychiatrists have discovered a common thread –
unforgiveness and bitter hearts! Sons and daughters are bitter against absent fathers or negligent
mothers; wives are bitter against absent or abusive husbands; fathers are bitter against their own
abusive fathers, turning their rage against their own families; women are bitter against men, and
children are bitter against their parents. Everyone is holding unforgiveness against those who have
hurt them, and the resulting bitterness of heart is eating them up inside. We are seeing a whole
generation of bitter, angry, hard-hearted people boiling over with silent rage and unforgiveness!
The worst part about it is Satan is having a field day! Why? Because whenever unforgiveness and
bitterness enter our hearts, Satan has a legal right to build a stronghold there!
“If you forgive anyone, I also forgive him. And what I have forgiven – if there was anything to forgive
– I have forgiven in the sight of Christ for your sake, in order that Satan might not outwit us. For we
are not unaware of his schemes (i.e., methods, devices, and plans)”
(2 Corinthians 2:10-11, NIV).
Paul is saying here that if there exists any occasion where forgiveness is needed in the church, he
wants to forgive along with everyone else, for he knows how Satan operates. He knew that every
unforgiven offense was an opportunity for Satan to bring the bondage of bitterness, anger,
criticalness, strife, and hard heartedness to the offended party. These things would open the door for
other tormenting spirits as well! You see, it’s not just about relationships, but about your spiritual and
natural health as well. When you do not forgive, your prayers go unanswered, your love grows cold,
your natural resistance decreases, your joy and happiness are drained away, your spirit becomes
darkened, and every sin you commit goes unforgiven by God until you forgive! Now tell me, is it really
worth it?
Five Reasons Why A Person Won’t Forgive.
Someone may say, “But it’s so hard to forgive! You don’t know what they did to me! I just can’t seem
to let it go, even though I know I have to!” If this is you, Beloved, then you need to examine yourself
closely as to why you as a believer would keep this deadly emotional poison flowing through your
system. Here are five reasons why most people will not forgive:
1) They don’t value the relationship. Many people simply refuse to forgive an offender because
they no longer value the relationship that they have with them. They are more willing to discard the
relationship than to make the effort to restore the relationship. This is due to a lack of love, for
without the love of God within us, we cannot see the value that God places in every person on earth!
Can you imagine what would happen if God treated us the same way?
2) They are afraid to forgive for fear of being put in a position of weakness and vulnerability
with another person. This is the most common reason among those who have been hurt before.
They use unforgiveness as a shield to keep distance between themselves and those who have hurt
them. They feel safer hiding behind the bitterness and anger rather than letting it go and giving the
person another chance, as the Bible instructs them to. The sad part is, they are keeping God out as
well, and letting Satan in! Saints, remember this: true, godly love always takes risks, and there is no
hurt in this world that God cannot heal!
3) They won’t forgive because pride keeps them from truly seeing themselves in God. Many
people will exalt themselves in their own eyes until they treat every offense against them as if it were
against God Himself! They see the offender as “unworthy” of their forgiveness or love, not realizing
that they themselves are no better than the offender in God’s eyes as long as they hold that grudge.
They fail to realize that if Jesus could forgive the sins committed against him during his earthly life
and still love his offenders, who are we not to? We must learn to let God be the righteous judge of
every sin and get out of His way!
4) They can’t forgive because they are focusing on the wrong image in their minds. Many
saints hinder their ability to forgive by constantly thinking on the wrong thing: instead of focusing on
the Word of God, the example of Jesus, and guarding themselves against the deception of the enemy,
they will focus on the offender, the offense, the words spoken, and the pain experienced. They will
rehearse it over and over in their minds, keeping the memories fresh and the wounds sore. Beloved,
please listen: as long as you keep talking about it, thinking about it, and hearing about it, you’ll keep
hurting over it. Part of forgiving is separating yourself and your pain from the memories of the event –
you must put the past behind you, embracing the memory while releasing the pain!
5) They won’t forgive because they don’t understand the damage it does to their hearts.
Most everyone who willingly holds onto a grudge does not realize the damage they are doing to
themselves. Unforgiveness always leads to bitterness, and bitterness always leads to a hardened
heart, one that cannot love or trust anyone. It affects our ability as parents, spouses, and friends.
Everyone can tell bitter people; they’re the ones who have become abusive, hard, quick-tempered,
stubborn, unfriendly, and cold. The offense may be years gone and long forgotten by the other party,
but the impact remains long after the fact. Saints, we must understand this: the only person
unforgiveness hurts is the unforgiver!
The Power of Love.
The Battle against unforgiveness is being lost by someone, somewhere, every day. Today it’s like a
contagious disease, spreading from marriage to marriage and family to family, leaving behind
divorces, broken families, bitter hearts, and painful memories. How can we stop it? The answer is so
simple yet so deep that we often overlook it – we must learn to LOVE! Not the warm, fuzzy, teary-
eyed lip service love that you see on television of get in many fellowships. But that selfless, aga`pe
love of Jesus, the self-sacrificing love that led Him to give His life for us while we were still his
enemies, the love that could accept rejection, lashes, beatings, spitting, nails, and a criminal’s cross
and still say, “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do” (Luke 23:34).
Beloved, this is where the real battle for your spiritual life and happiness begins; not over doctrines,
denominations, Bible versions, or spiritual gifts, but over who will love and who will hate, who will
forgive and who will grow bitter! Oh saints, where are those who can turn the other cheek, who can
love their enemies, who can bless those that curse them or spitefully use them? Where are those who
can truly, honestly forgive? This is what the world needs to see, hear and experience! This is TRUE
spiritual growth and a primary key to finding happiness! This is the nature of the true child of God,
one who, like a rose, can take the crushing of this world and still give off the pleasing fragrance of
love and forgiveness. This, beloved saints, is the mark of a true believer. Praise God!
How to find happiness – Forgiving Others Exercises:
1) Make a list of those people who have hurt or wounded you in your life, whether they are alive or
have passed away. Include a detailed list of the hurts and wounds inflicted upon you.
2) Take the time to go before God and ask forgiveness for holding grudges against them; ask Him
to remove the offense from your heart. Ask God to wash your heart in the blood of Jesus Christ and to
fill you with love for that person. Renounce the Spirit of Unforgiveness, repenting from your heart
before the Lord God.
3) Forgive each offender. Forgive them verbally, out loud. Be specific in what you are forgiving
them for. If you have trouble forgiving, review the “Reasons People Will Not Forgive” provided in this
lesson. Focus on the impact that unforgiveness could have in your life and ask yourself, “Do I really
want this poison in my life? What have I already lost because of unforgiveness? Is it really worth it to
damage my own spirit because of this? What blessings am I missing out on because of this?” Now, go
back and try again to forgive that person’s hurts against you. Do this for every person on your list and
take your time.
(Note: if you still have trouble verbally forgiving this person, this may be a sign that you have
developed a demonic stronghold in your life. Ask the Lord God to help you forgive them. You may
need to seek deliverance counseling.)
4) Once you have asked forgiveness from the Lord for harboring unforgiveness, and have verbally
forgiven and released each person who has wounded you, now begin to pray a blessing over the life
over each person. (Remember, Jesus said to “love those who hate you, bless those who persecute
you.”) A sign of true forgiveness from the heart is when we can freely speak a blessing over those
who have wounded us and truly mean it from our hearts.
5) If you still know or have a relationship with someone who has wounded you in the past, it would
be wise to go to that person and tell them that you have forgiven them for any trespasses, as well as
asking their forgiveness for any sins you may have committed against them. The more hurtful the
wound, the necessary this step may become. You may very well free them from the guilt of offending
you!

Key #5 to Happiness – Living in the present

“Yesterday is history. Tomorrow is a mystery. And today? Today is a gift.
That’s why we call it the present.” ~Babatunde Olatunji

At first glance, you might ask – what does living in the present have to do with happiness? What’s
so great about the present? What does it even mean to live in the present? It means that we are
focused on what we are experiencing, thinking and/or feeling right now…and not caught up in the
fantasies about the future or burdened down with memories of the past.
“Be here now” was a popular phrase in the hippy days which was captured well in many books and
songs. Like all things, however, embracing this concept can lead a person either positively or
negatively…into deep irresponsibility and narcissism, or into the discipline of total reliance upon God
for every need on a moment to moment basis.
Living in the “now” with Jesus is the epitome of joy, peace, wisdom, power and destiny.
But how do you get there? Well, first, let’s explore not living in the present.
Living in the past = Regret
“When one door closes another door opens; but we so often look so long and so regretfully upon the
closed door, that we do not see the ones which open for us.” Alexander Graham Bell
I must admit that I too relive the past sometimes. Like most of us, when I find myself in the past, I
am usually reliving a mistake or a negative situation, which then makes me feel badly about myself.
Oh, I have personal ones too, but when I am stuck in the past it usually has to do with work. Have
you ever had an important meeting and you blew it? I have. For days I can beat myself up over it
replaying the scene over and over in my mind, wishing I could have a “do over.” Sometimes even
years later, I can find myself feeling sick about a particular meeting that went south.
I can only imagine the torment people experience who have made a mistake that caused serious
injury or even someone’s life. One such situation happened recently with one of my relatives.
Frankly, I don’t know how one gets over something like that, except by God’s grace. (check out our
article from a few weeks ago “Learning How to forgive yourself”)
God promises to give the Holy Spirit liberally to everyone who asks for Him.
“If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more
will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!” Luke 11:13
He also said, “If you ask anything in my name, I will do it.” John. 14:14
What does “anything” include? Hmmnn… I guess it means ANYTHING. (which includes healing your
memories and self incriminations) But there’s more –
“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all
unrighteousness”. 1 John 1:9 (NKJV)
“Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things
which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead”, Phil 3:13 (NKJV)
There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according
to the flesh, but according to the Spirit. Romans 8:1 (NKJV)
On the other hand, if we are constantly recalling positive experiences of the past, it usually means
that our happiness is caught up deeds or works we did earlier…with pride hovering around us ready to
establish (or grow) a deeper root. Even reliving our own old glory days too often can hold us back
from hearing the new thing God has for us now.
Here is what the Bible says about living in the past:
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things
have become new. 2 Cor 5:17 (NKJV)
Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from
the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. Romans 6:4
(NKJV)
Yet indeed I also count all things loss for the excellence of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord, for
whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them as rubbish, that I may gain Christ Phil
3:8 (NKJV)

Living in the future = Anxiety and Fear.

We all like to think about the possibility about a wonderful future where our dreams come true and
that is not a bad thing. However, truth be told, when most of us think about the future, it’s usually
about negative things…things we fear. Fear of losing a job, not being able to pay the bills, not being
able to care for our families and more. We all face these fears, including myself. The key is not to
dwell on our fears but to give them over to God…that is what he wants us to do with them. Also,
check out our next keys to happiness next week where we’ll talk about how to overcome fear.
Here is what the Bible has to say about fixating on the future, worry and fear:

“Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor
about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing?
Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly
Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? Which of you by worrying can add one cubit
to his stature? So why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow:
they neither toil nor spin; and yet I say to you that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like
one of these. Now if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is thrown
into the oven, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? Therefore do not worry, saying,
‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For after all these things the
Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. ”But seek first the
kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. Therefore do not
worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own
trouble. Matthew 6:25-34 (NKJV)
“Anxiety in the heart of man causes depression, But a good word makes it glad”. Proverbs 12:25
(NKJV)

“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your
requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard
your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever
things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely,
whatever things are of good.” Philippians 4:6-8 (NKJV)

“Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will
help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand. Behold, all those who were incensed against
you Shall be ashamed and disgraced; They shall be as nothing, And those who strive with you shall
perish. You shall seek them and not find them…Those who contended with you. Those who war
against you Shall be as nothing, As a nonexistent thing. For I, the LORD your God, will hold your right
hand, Saying to you, Fear not, I will help you.” Isaiah 41:10-13 (NKJV)

Living in the present

There is a lot of truth in the above words. For a very few people, living is the present comes
naturally, including our dogs. That is definitely something we can learn from our K9s…they truly live
in the present. For most of us however, it takes effort to train our minds to let go of our worries and
forgive ourselves of our mistake. The good news is that we can do it with help from God. He
promises us (read the above verses again) to help us if we just let him. When we do that, overall
we’re happier people.
Do you realize that only when we live in the present can we experience God’s presence?

Keys to happiness exercise:

• Ask God for help (ask Jesus into your life if you have not done so already)

Now I am not sure I totally agree with you on this post. Nonetheless I am always open to new

concepts. May well have to feel about it. Useful site incidentally.

FAITH IN THE MIDST OF

FAILURE
“If you have made mistakes, there is always another chance
for you. You may have a fresh start any moment you choose,
for this thing we call ‘failure’ is not the falling down, but the
staying down.” — Mary Pickford, Canadian actress
If you have a strong, unwavering faith in the Lord, He will guide you, even in the least productive
times in your life. You are still God’s child, in times of success as well as in times of failure. He
continues to love you (and me) even through our difficult phases. God does not hold your
transgressions against you, as the world does.
Romans 8;1-3 NIV Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus,
because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set me free from the law of sin and death. For
what the law was powerless to do in that it was weakened by the sinful nature, God did by sending his
own Son in the likeness of sinful man to be a sin offering. And so he condemned sin in sinful man.
He promises to give you new life, even when you have failed in your endeavors.
Isaiah 43:18-19 NIV Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new
thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the desert and streams in the
wasteland.
But what must you do? You must trust God with this promise. You may not know what the future
holds for you, but this is where your faith must kick into gear.
Proverbs 3:5-6 NIV Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding;
in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will direct your paths.

+++
According to Dennis Bratcher, in his commentary, Abraham’s Faith Journey, “… the future that God
calls us to is not dependent on our efforts to make it happen. It’s dependent upon our willingness to
have faith in God to make happen what we can’t make happen on our own. And it also tells us that
God is faithful to those whom he has called in spite of their failure and laughter.”

+++

So what about you? Is it time to trust God even though it seems at times that nothing is going right in
your life? Have you given up, feeling like it’s too late to be a productive person of purpose because
you have failed so often? Don’t allow your failures to derail you. ***

Having faith in God will keep you on the right path even in the
midst of failure.
“There is no failure except in no longer trying. There is no defeat except from
within, no really insurmountable barrier save our own inherent weakness of
purpose.” — Elbert Hubbard, American writer

FLORIDA COURT SETS ATHEIST HOLY DAY
Submitted by Johnnie M.

In Florida, an atheist created a case against the upcoming Easter and Passover Holy days. He
hired an
attorney to bring a discrimination case against Christians and Jews and observances of their holy
days.

The argument was that it was unfair that atheists had no such recognized days.

The case was brought before a judge. After listening to the passionate presentation by the lawyer,
the judge
banged his gavel declaring, "Case dismissed!"

The lawyer immediately stood objecting to the ruling saying, "Your honor, How can you possibly
dismiss this
case? The Christians have Christmas, Easter and others.. The Jews have Passover, Yom Kippur
and
Hanukkah, yet my client and all other atheists have no such holidays."

The judge leaned forward in his chair saying, "But you do. Your client, counsel, is woefully ignorant."

The lawyer said, "Your Honor, we are unaware of any special observance or holiday for atheists."
The judge said, "The calendar says April 1st is April Fools Day. Psalm
14:1 states, 'The fool says in his heart, there is no God.' Thus, it is the opinion of this court, that, if
your client
says there is no God, then he is a fool. Therefore, April 1st is his day. Court is adjourned.."

A burglar broke into a house one night. He shined his flashlight around, looking for

valuables when a voice in the dark said, 'Jesus knows you're here.'

He nearly jumped out of his skin, clicked his flashlight off, and froze.

When he heard nothing more , after a bit, he shook his head and continued.

Just as he pulled the stereo out so he could disconnect the wires, clear as a bell he heard

'Jesus is watching you.'

Freaked out, he shined his light around frantically, looking for the source of the voice.

Finally, in the corner of the room, his flashlight beam came to rest on a parrot.

'Did you say that?' he hissed at the parrot.

'Yep', the parrot confessed, then squawked, 'I'm just trying to warn you that he is watching you.'

The burglar relaxed. 'Warn me, huh? Who in the world are you?'

'Moses,' replied the bird.

'Moses?' the burglar laughed. 'What kind of people would name a bird Moses?'

'The kind of people that would name a Rottweiler Jesus.'

The Two Flower Merchants

Spiritual Story by Unknown
One day, two flower merchants set up shop next to one another. They opened for business on the same day, carried
the same lovely selection of aromatic flowers, and maintained similar prices for their marvelous plants. Both
merchants took great care with raising their plants and both were kind and courteous to their customers. In fact, their
stores appeared to be equal in every way.

At first, the merchants even received equal traffic through their shops, but–as time went on–the first merchant’s shop
became more popular among the people. The second merchant noticed this and became concerned. One
particularly slow day, he decided to look into the matter. As he stepped out his door to visit his neighbor, he passed
one of his regular customers leaving the first merchant’s shop carrying their weekly purchase of flowers. In disbelief,
the second merchant hurried into the next store.

Indeed, the store was teeming with customers. The second merchant noticed his competitor wasn’t taking the money
himself, as he always did. The first merchant was out among the aisles, talking with his customers. To his
amazement, the second merchant watched as the first would chat at great length with the customers and even would
occasionally talk to the flowers themselves! The second merchant prided himself on being a serious store owner and
could not understand this leisurely approach to running a shop. Yet this behavior seemed to be working for the first
merchant, as his thriving store would attest.

When the second merchant could stand it no longer, he approached the first and politely asked to interrupt the
conversation. The first merchant smiled, handed his customers to one of his clerks, and turned his attention to his
exasperated neighbor.

The second merchant asked, “Brother, I am your humble student. Our stores are nearly the same in all ways, yet
your results are doubling while mine are halving. I do not understand.”

“Brother,” the first merchant said, “We are the same in most ways, this is true. The difference lies in what we see with
our hearts. You see your store as a store, your plants as plants, and your customers as customers. I see my store as
a beloved home and my cherished friends are my customers, clerks and plants, all present to be adored. In that way,
we are very, very different.”

Excuses
Spiritual Story by The Monk Theophane

"Why not?" that was the first thing he said. He had never seen me before. I hadn't said a word. "Why not?" I
knew he had me.

I brought up excuses: "My wife... the people I have to work with ... not enough time... I guess it's my temperament..."

There was a sword hanging on the wall. He took it and gave it to me. "Here, with this sword, you can cut through any
barriers." I took it and slipped away without saying a word.

Back in my room in the guesthouse I sat down and kept looking at that sword. I knew that what he said was true.

But the next day I returned his sword. How can I live without my excuses?
A Bank Savings Account Book
Spiritual Story by Unknown

My mother sent me a bank savings account book on the eve of my wedding. There had $1000.00 in it. My mother
smiled and said, 'You both are going to deposit some money in it from time to time, when something is worth for
memorable. Besides the money, you both learn that there will have the unlimited of happiness as you both grow old
together.'

My husband deposited $500.00 twice later on. Once, he was promoted at work. Another time, I got home after a very
successful operation. I felt the absolutely warmest at the bottom of my heart. After all, my good health was the priority
of his greatest happiness.

We started fighting a few years later...

My mother said to me, 'First of all, you both spend all the money from your account before the next move!' When we
were going for a divorce, I looked into the bank book. I thought on the source of the money. Tears welled up in my
eyes because it did accumulated lots of happiness inside. I gave it to him that night. I said, 'Hurry up to spend all the
money before we divorce.'

He handed the bank book to me with $1000.00 extra more in it next day.
'This is the first time for me to realize that I'm still very much in love with you, I deposited $1000.00, so.' he said. We
were reconciled since then.

Today is our 57th wedding anniversary and we still deposit the money into our account whenever there is something
worth for memorable even now.
We know we will celebrate our every wedding anniversary until the end of the rainbow...

Special thanks to K. Mak for sharing this spiritual story with us!

Monkey and the Hyena

Spiritual Story by Anthony de Mello

A monkey and a hyena were walking through the forest when he hyena said, "Each time I pass by those bushes
there, a lion jumps out of them and mauls me. I don't know why."

"I'll walk with you this time," said the monkey, "and side with you against the lion."

So they started to walk past the bushes when the lion pounced on the hyena and nearly mauled it to death.
Meanwhile, the monkey watched the proceedings from the safety of a tree that he had run up the moment the lion
appeared.
"Why didn't you do something to help me?" moaned the hyena.

Said the monkey, "You were laughing so much I thought you were winning."

Keep The Faith

Spiritual Story by Unknown

"Let me explain the problem science has with Jesus Christ."

The atheist professor of philosophy pauses before his class and then asks one of his new students to stand.

"You're a Christian, aren't you, son?"

"Yes sir," the student says.

"So you believe in God?"

"Absolutely."

"Is God good?"

"Sure! God's good, and I will Keep The Faith."

"Is God all-powerful? Can God do anything?"

"Yes."

"Are you good or evil?"

"The Bible says I'm evil."

The professor grins knowingly. "Aha! The Bible!" He considers for a moment. "Here's one for you. Let's say there's a
sick person over here and you can cure him. You can do it. Would you help them? Would you try?"

"Yes sir, I would."

"So you're good...!"

"I wouldn't say that."

"But why not say that? You'd help a sick and maimed person if you could. Most of us would if we could. But God
doesn't."

The student does not answer, so the professor continues. "He doesn't, does he? My brother was a Christian who
died of cancer, even though he prayed to Jesus to heal him. How is this Jesus good? Hmmm? Can you answer that
one?"
The student remains silent.

"No, you can't, can you?" the professor says. He takes a sip of water from a glass on his desk to give the student
time to relax.

"Let's start again, young fella. Is God good?"

"Er... Yes," the student says.

"Is Satan good?"

The student doesn't hesitate on this one. "No."

"Then where does Satan come from?"

The student falters. "From... God..."

That's right. God made Satan, didn't he? Tell me, son. Is there evil in this world?"

"Yes, sir."

"Evil's everywhere, isn't it? And God did make everything correct?"

"Yes."

"So who created evil?"

Again, the student has no answer.

"Is there sickness? Immorality? Hatred? Ugliness. All these terrible things, do they exist in this world?"

The student squirms on his feet. "Yes."

"So who created them?"

The student does not answer again, so the professor repeats his question, "Who created them? "

There is still no answer. Suddenly the lecturer breaks away to pace in front of the classroom. The class is
mesmerized.

"Tell me," he continues. "Do you believe in Jesus Christ, son?"

The student's voice betrays him and cracks. "Yes, professor. I do."

The old man stops pacing. "Science says you have five senses you use to identify and observe the world around
you. Have you ever seen Jesus?"

"No sir. I've never seen Him."

"Then tell us if you've ever heard your Jesus?"

"No, sir. I have not."

"Have you ever felt your Jesus, tasted your Jesus or smelt your Jesus? Have you ever had any sensory perception
of Jesus Christ, or God for that matter."
"No, sir, I'm afraid I haven't."

"Yet you still believe in him?"

"Yes."

"According to the rules of empirical, testable, demonstrable protocol, science says your God doesn't exist. What do
you say to that son?"

"Nothing," the student replies. "I only have my faith."

"Yes, faith," the professor repeats. "And that is the problem science has with God. There is no evidence, only faith."

The student stands quietly for a moment, before asking a question of his own.

"Professor, is there such thing as heat?"

"Yes," the professor replies. "There's heat."

"And is there such a thing as cold?"

"Yes, son, there's cold too."

"No sir, there isn't."

The professor turns to face the student, obviously interested. The room suddenly becomes very quiet. The student
begins to explain.

"You can have lots of heat, even more heat, super-heat, mega-heat, white heat, a little heat or no heat, but we don't
have anything called 'cold'. We can hit 458 degrees below zero, which is no heat, but we can't go any further after
that. There is no such thing as cold; otherwise we would be able to go colder than - 458 degrees. You see, sir, cold is
only a word we use to describe the absence of heat. We cannot measure cold. Heat we can measure in thermal units
because heat is energy. Cold is not the opposite of heat, sir, just the absence of it."

Silence across the room. A pen drops somewhere in the classroom, sounding like a hammer.

"What about darkness, professor. Is there such a thing as darkness?"

"Yes," the professor replies without hesitation. "What is night if it isn't darkness?"

"You're wrong again, sir. Darkness is not something; it is the absence of something. You can have low light, normal
light, bright light, flashing light... but if you have no light constantly you have nothing and it's called darkness, isn't it?
That's the meaning we use to define the word. In reality, darkness isn't. If it were, you would be able to make
darkness darker, wouldn't you?"

The professor begins to smile at the student in front of him. This will be a good semester.

"So what point are you making, young man?"

"Yes, professor. My point is, your philosophical premise is flawed to start with and so your conclusion must also be
flawed."

The professor's face cannot hide his surprise this time. "Flawed? Can you explain how?"

"You are working on the premise of duality," the student explains. "You argue that there is life and then there's death;
a good God and a bad God. You are viewing the concept of God as something finite, something we can measure.
Sir, science can't even explain a thought. It uses electricity and magnetism, but has never seen, much less fully
understood either one. To view death as the opposite of life is to be ignorant of the fact that death cannot exist as a
substantive thing. Death is not the opposite of life, just the absence of it. Now tell me, professor. Do you teach your
students that they evolved from a monkey?"

"If you are referring to the natural evolutionary process, young man, yes, of course I do."

"Have you ever observed evolution with your own eyes, sir?"

The professor begins to shake his head, still smiling, as he realizes where the argument is going. A very good
semester indeed.

"Since no one has ever observed the process of evolution at work and cannot even prove that this process is an on-
going endeavor, are you not teaching your opinion, sir? Are you now not a scientist, but a preacher?"

The class is in uproar. The student remains silent until the commotion has subsided.

"To continue the point you were making earlier, let me give you an example of what I mean?" The student looks
around the room.

"Is there anyone in the class who has ever seen the professor's brain?"

The class breaks out into laughter.

"Is there anyone here who has ever heard the professor's brain, felt the professor's brain, touched or smelt the
professor's brain? No one appears to have done so. So, according to the established rules of empirical, stable,
demonstrable protocol, science says that you have no brain, with all due respect, sir."

So if science says you have no brain, how can we trust your lectures, sir?"

Now the room is silent. The professor just stares at the student, his face unreadable.

Finally, after what seems an eternity, the old man answers. "I guess you'll have to take them on faith."

Friends in the Desert

Spiritual Story by Unknown

Two friends were walking through the desert. During some point of the journey, they had an argument and one friend
slapped the other one in the face. The one who got slapped was hurt, but without saying anything, wrote in the sand:

"Today my best friend slapped me in the face."

They kept on walking, until they found an oasis, where they decided to take a bath. The one who had been slapped
got stuck in the mire and started drowning, but the friend saved him. After he recovered from the near drowning, he
wrote on a stone:

"Today my best friend saved my life."

The friend who had slapped and saved his best friend asked him, "After I hurt you, you wrote in the sand and now,
you write on a stone, why?"

The friend replied, when someone hurts us we should write it down in sand, where the winds of forgiveness can
erase it away. But, when someone does something good for us, we must engrave it in stone where no wind can ever
erase it."

Hold My Hand
Spiritual Story by Unknown

Once a little girl and her father were crossing a bridge. The father was kind of scared so he asked his little daughter,
"Sweetheart , please hold my hand so that you don’t fall into the river."

The little girl said, "No, Dad. You hold my hand."

"What’s the difference?" asked the puzzle father.

"There’s a big difference," replied the little girl.

"If I hold your hand and something happens to me, chances are that I may let your hand go. But if you hold my hand,
I know for sure that no matter what happens, you will never let my hand go."

The Sailor's Decision

Spiritual Story by Unknown

After a few of the usual Sunday evening hymns, the church's pastor once again slowly stood up, walked over to the
pulpit, and gave a very brief introduction of his childhood friend. With that, an elderly man stepped up to the pulpit to
speak, "A father, his son, and a friend of his son were sailing off the Pacific Coast," he began, "when a fast
approaching storm blocked any attempt to get back to shore. The waves were so high, that even though the father
was an experienced sailor, he could not keep the boat upright, and the three were swept into the ocean."

The old man hesitated for a moment, making eye contact with two teenagers who were, for the first time since the
service began, looking somewhat interested in his story. He continued, "Grabbing a rescue line, the father had to
make the most excruciating decision of his life....to which boy he would throw the other end of the line. He only had
seconds to make the decision.

The father knew that his son was a Christian, and he also knew that his son's friend was not. The agony of his
decision could not be matched by the torrent of waves. As the father yelled out, 'I love you, son!

He threw the line to his son's friend. By the time he pulled the friend back to the capsized boat, his son had
disappeared beyond the raging swells into the black of night. His body was never recovered."

By this time, the two teenagers were sitting straighter in the pew, waiting for the next words to come out of the old
man's mouth. "The father," he continued, "knew his son would step into eternity with Jesus, and he could not bear
the thought of his son's friend stepping into an eternity without Jesus. Therefore, he sacrificed his son. How great is
the love of God that He should do the same for us." With that, the old man turned and sat back down in his chair as
silence filled the room.

Within minutes after the service ended, the two teenagers were at the old man's side. "That was a nice story," politely
started one of the boys, "but I don't think it was very realistic for a father to give up his son's life in hopes that the
other boy would become a Christian."

"Well, you've got a point there," the old man replied, glancing down at his worn Bible. A big smile broadened his
narrow face, and he once again looked up at the boys and said, "It sure isn't very realistic, is it? But I'm standing here
today to tell you that THAT story gives me a glimpse of what it must have been like for God to give up His Son for
me."

"You see....I was the son's friend."

Waves In An Ocean
Spiritual Story by Mitch Albom

A little wave was bobbing along in the ocean, having a grand old time. He's enjoying the wind and the fresh air--until
he notip'=ces the other waves in front of him, crashing against the shore.

"My God, this is terrible," the wave says. "Look what's going to happen to me!"

Then along comes another wave. It sees the first wave, looking grim, and it says to him, "Why do you look so sad?"

The first wave says, "You don't understand! We're all going to crash! All of us waves are going to be nothing! Isn't
this terrible?"

The second wave says, "No, YOU don't understand. You're not a wave, you're part of the ocean."
Why We Shout When In Anger
Spiritual Story by Unknown

A Hindu saint who was visiting river Ganges to take bath found a group of family members on the banks, shouting in
anger at each other. He turned to his disciples smiled and asked.

'Why do people shout in anger shout at each other?'

Disciples thought for a while, one of them said, 'Because we lose our calm, we shout.'

'But, why should you shout when the other person is just next to you? You can as well tell him what you have to say
in a soft manner.' asked the saint

Disciples gave some other answers but none satisfied the other disciples.
Finally the saint explained, .

'When two people are angry at each other, their hearts distance a lot. To cover that distance they must shout to be
able to hear each other. The angrier they are, the stronger they will have to shout to hear each other to cover that
great distance.

What happens when two people fall in love? They don't shout at each other but talk softly, Because their hearts are
very close. The distance between them is either nonexistent or very small...'

The saint continued, 'When they love each other even more, what happens? They do not speak, only whisper and
they get even closer to each other in their love. Finally they even need not whisper, they only look at each other and
that's all. That is how close two people are when they love each other.'

He looked at his disciples and said.

'So when you argue do not let your hearts get distant, Do not say words that distance each other more, Or else there
will come a day when the distance is so great that you will not find the path to return. They may end up in divorce
courts, for instance.'

One day a tiger was hunting around in a forest. An unlucky fox was met and caught by the tiger. For the fox, the
inescapable destination was very clear -- death. Despite the danger, the fox thought hard to find a way out.

Promptly, the fox declared to the tiger, "How dare you kill me!"

On hearing the words the tiger was surprised and asked for the reason" The fox raised his voice a bit higher and
declared arrogantly: "To tell you the truth, it's I who was accredited by God to the forest as the king of all the animals!
If you kill me, that will be against the God's will, you know?"

Seeing that the tiger became suspicions, the fox added: "Let's have a test. Let's go through the forest. Follow me and
you will see HOW THE ANIMALS ARE FRIGHTENED OF ME." The tiger agreed.

So the fox walked ahead of the tiger proudly through the forest. As you can imagine, the animals, seeing the tiger
behind, were all terribly frightened and ran away. Then the fox said proudly: "There is no doubt that what I said is
true, isn't it?"

The tiger had nothing to say but to acknowledge the result. So the tiger nodded and said:

"You are right. You are the king."

Wondrous Powers
Spiritual Story by Roger D. Abrahams

An old man had three children, all boys. When they had grown up to manhood, he called them together and told
them that now he was very old and no longer able to provide, even for himself. He ordered them to go out and bring
him food and clothing.

The three brothers set out, and after a very long while they came to a large river. As they had gone on together for
such a time, they decided that once they got across they would separate. The eldest told the youngest to take the
middle road, and th esecond to go to the right, while he himself would go to the left. Then, in a year's time, they
would come back to the same spot.

So they parted, and at the end of a year, as agreed, they found their way back to the riverside. The eldest asked the
youngest what he had gotten during his travels, and the boy replied: "I have nothing but a mirror, but it has wonderful
power. If you look into it, you can see all over the country, no matter how far away."

When asked in turn what he had gotten, the second brother replied: "Only a pair of sandals that are so full of power,
that if one puts them on one can walk at once to any place in the country in one step."

Then the eldest himself, said: "I, too, have obtained but little, a small calabash of medicine, that is all. But let us look
into the mirror and see how father fares."

The youngest produced his mirror, and they all looked into it and saw that their father was already dead and that
even the funeral custom was finished. Then the elder said: "Let us hasten home and see what we can do." So the
second brought out his sandals, and all three placed their feet inside them and, immediately, they were borne to their
father's grave. Then the eldest shook the medicine out of his bag, and poured it over the grave. At once their father
arose, as if nothing had been the matter with him.

Now which of these three sons has performed the best?

Ordinary Just Isn't Enough

Spiritual Story by Unknown

For some time I've had a church member provide me with a rose boutonniere to pin on the lapel of my suit every
Sunday. Because I always got a flower on Sunday morning, I really did not think much of it. It was a nice gesture that
became routine. One Sunday, however, what I considered ordinary became very special.

As I was leaving the Sunday service a young man approached and said, "Sir, what are you going to do with your
flower?" At first I did not know what he was talking about, but then I understood. I said, "Do you mean this?" as I
pointed to the rose pinned to my coat.

He said, "Yes sir. I would like it if you are just going to throw it away." The little boy said, "Sir, I'm going to give it to
my granny. My mother and father got divorced last year. I was living with my mother, but I could not stay, so she sent
me to live with my grandmother. She has been so good to me that I want to give that pretty flower to her for loving
me."

When the little boy finished I could hardly speak. My eyes filled with tears and I knew I had been touched in the
depths of my soul. I reached up and unpinned my flower. With the flower in my hand, I looked at the boy and said,
"Son, that is the nicest thing I have ever heard, but you can't have this flower because it's not enough. If you'll look in
front of the pulpit, you'll see a big bouquet of flowers. Different families buy them for the church each week. Please
take those flowers to your granny because she deserves the very best."

If I hadn't been touched enough already, he made one last statement and I will always cherish it. He said, "What a
wonderful day! I asked for one flower but got a beautiful bouquet."

The Cat Is Wet

Spiritual Story by Idries Shah

Nasrudin took a job as watchman. His master called him and asked whether it was raining. "I have to go see the
Sultan, and the dye on my favourite cloak is not fast. If it is raining, it will be ruined."

Now, Nasrudin was very lazy; and, besides, he prided himself upon being a master of deduction. The cat had just
streaked in, soaked through.

"Master," he said," it is raining heavily."

The master spent some time getting himself arrayed in other finery, went out, and found that there was no rain. The
cat had been soaked by someone throwing water at it to start it away.

Nasrudin got fired.

Wet Pants
Spiritual Story by Unknown

A nine-year-old was kid sitting at his desk when suddenly there is a puddle between his feet and the front of his pants
are wet. He thinks his heart is going to stop because he cannot possibly imagine how this has happened. It's never
happened before, and he knows that when the boys find out he will never hear the end of it. When the girls find out,
they'll never speak to him again as long as he lives.

The boy believes his heart is going to stop; he puts his head down and prays this prayer, "Dear God, this is an
emergency! I need help now! Five minutes from now I'm dead meat"

He looks up from his prayer and here comes the teacher with a look in her eyes that says he has been discovered.

As the teacher is walking toward him, a classmate named Susie is carrying a goldfish bowl that is filled with water.
Susie trips in front of the teacher and inexplicably dumps the bowl of water in the boy's lap. The boy pretends to be
angry, but all the while is saying to himself, "Thank you, Lord! Thank you, Lord!"

Now all of a sudden, instead of being the object of ridicule, the boy is the object of sympathy. The teacher rushes him
downstairs and gives him gym short to put on while his pants dry out. All the other children are on their hands and
knees cleaning up around his desk. The sympathy is wonderful. But as life would have it, the ridicule that should
have been his has been transferred to someone else - Susie.

She tries to help, but they tell her to get out. "You've done enough, you klutz!"

Finally, at the end of the day, as they are waiting for the bus, the boy walks over to Susie and whispers, "You did that
on purpose, didn't you?"

Susie whispers back, "I wet my pants once too."

Carrots, Eggs, or Coffee

Spiritual Story by Unknown

A young woman went to her grandmother and told her about her life and how things were so hard for her. She did not
know how she was going to make it and wanted to give up. She was tired of fighting and struggling. It seemed as one
problem was solved, a new one would pop up.

Her grandmother took her to the kitchen. She filled three pots with water and placed each on a high fire, and soon
the pots came to boil. In the first pot she placed carrots, in the second she placed eggs, and in the last she placed
ground coffee beans. She let them sit and boil; without saying a word. In about twenty minutes she turned off the
burners. She fished the carrots out and placed them in a bowl. She pulled the eggs out and placed them in a bowl.
Then she ladled the coffee out and placed it in a bowl.

Turning to her granddaughter, she asked, "Tell me what you see."

"Carrots, eggs, and coffee," she replied. Her grandmother brought her closer and asked her to feel the carrots. She
did and noted that they were soft. The grandmother then asked the granddaughter to take an egg and break it. After
pulling off the shell, she observed the hard boiled egg. Finally, the grandmother asked the granddaughter to sip the
coffee. The granddaughter smiled as she tasted its rich aroma then asked,

"What does it mean, grandmother?"

Her grandmother explained that each of these objects had faced the same adversity: boiling water. Each reacted
differently. The carrot went in strong, hard, and unrelenting. However, after being subjected to the boiling water, it
softened and became weak. The egg had been fragile. Its thin outer shell had protected its liquid interior, but after
sitting through the boiling water, its inside became hardened. The ground coffee beans were unique, however. After
they were in the boiling water, they had changed the water.

"Which are you?" she asked her granddaughter.

Greatest Treasure
Spiritual Story by Catherine Ingram

Long ago lived a young man in Istanbul, Turkey. Because he was poor, he had only a single room, spasely furnished
with a few books and a small cot for a bed. One night the young man had a dream — a vision, really.

In it, he saw himself walking on a street in what he came to realize was the city of Cairo in Egypt, a place he had
never been. He could clearly see the name of the street and the houses that lined the road.

In the vision, he walked up to one particular house, noting the address. He entered into a tiled courtyard and then
into the main house. An open door drew him to a particular room within the house. In this room sat an old man
surrounded by treasures beyond anything the young man had ever imagined.

Diamonds, emeralds, and rubies were piled high in pyramid shapes. Gold and silver bars lined the walls. Exquisite
carpets and artifacts from around the world lay at his feet. The young man stared at the treasures and then at the old
man in amazement, for in that moment he somehow knew that these treasures belonged to himself. He didn't know
how he knew (it was avision, after all), but he was certain that all of it was rightfully his.

The young man bolted awake from the dream. So confident was he in its veracity that he set off that very day on the
long journey from Istanbul to Cairo in order to claim his treasure. In those days, travel was slow and the young man,
being poor, had to work along the way to pay for food and lodging. After several months, he eventually arrived in
Cairo. Upon making the inquiries he found the very street he had seen in his dream.

As he set foot upon it, everything seemed completely familiar. The houses were exactly as he had seen them in his
vision. And sure enough, the house that in the dream had contained the old man and his treasure was precisely
where the young man expected it to be. Knowing his way, he entered into the tiled courtyard and then into the room
of treasures where he planned to make his claim.

There sat the old man, but there were no jewels, no gold or silver, no carpets or artifacts. The young man,
undetereed by the absence of the treasures recounted his vision to the old man and concluded by saying, "Since
everything else in my vision has been accurate, I assume that the riches are hidden here somewhere. Please hand
them over to me."

The old man was silent for some time, looking intently at the young man, his eyes glistening. After a while, he spoke.
"It's strange," he said. "I, too, had a dream. I dreamed of a young man in Istanbul who looked exactly like you."

"Yes, go on," implored the young man, certain that this information would lead to his treasure.

The old man proceeded to describe the street on which the young man lived in Istanbul. He described the young
man's mother and father, his siblings, his friends at work, and the books on the wall of his simple room.

"In my vision," said the old man, "the greatest treasure, more precious than all the shiny rocks and metals of the
world, was there on a small cot in that room." The young man suddenly realized what the old man meant. He bowed
to the wise man, and taking his leave, returned home to Istanbul where he lived out his quiet days.
