Mythbusting The 8 Comments You’ll Hear

About Issue 3
#1 - “But it will change the…”

This law has already been on the books for over 2 years now. You’re not voting for adding something
new, you’re being forced to vote “yes” to keep something you already have because 10 bigots went
around collecting signatures (yes, that’s all it takes in Mass to start something like this, 10 people).

#2 - “It wouldn’t have gotten on the ballot if it didn’t have strong support from the peop...”

It only takes 30k signatures for a “public referendum”. That’s it. That’s less than a fraction of a percent
of registered voters (0.006%) and even less of the eligible voters of the State.

#3 - “Well there must be a problem or someone wouldn’t have bothered t…”

There wasn’t. There was literally even a study done showing that in the 2 years since the law came
into effect, there have been ZERO incidents. The freaking Massachusetts Chiefs of Police Association
and Massachusetts Major City Chiefs even support this law. This is literally 0.006% of people in our
state wasting your time and tax dollars for their fear mongering.

#4 - “But I’m a conservative and...”

This law was passed bipartisan in both branches at the Statehouse, and signed by a Republican
governor back in 2016. Adding a 3rd gender marker for licenses passed 36 vs 1 in the Senate.
Conservative does not = bully who hates innocent people.

#5 - “It’s not a problem in Ma…”

65% of Transgender citizens reported being discriminated against before this law went into place.

#6 - “It’ll be ok, Mass is a progressive sta…”

Hate to be the bearer of bad news but you may want to double check some things about your
“progressive” electorate and reps:
• In the primaries THIS year, 30% of GOP delegates, and 40% of GOP voters voted for an open
holocaust denier who wrote a book about how “the gays framed the nazis for the holocaust”.
Yeah, the dude really wrote that.
• Don’t forget about the Mass Democrat in Worcester district 7, who sent out transphobic mailers
this election cycle claiming that transgender people are bathroom predators, and bragging
about being one of the bigots who gathered the 30k signatures for these shenanigans. I’m not
even making this pathetic shit up. Party membership does not prove moral compass.
• People have been repeatedly smashing the Holocaust memorial downtown.
• In another progressive city that had 60% support for transgender rights, that support dropped
to 30% once the “bathroom predator” robocalls started. The progressive voters lost with 39% of
the vote.
So no, your “progressive state” isn’t going to protect the transgender community. YOU are gonna
protect them by voting Yes on 3; by being loud and getting the word out to friends and family and
neighbors; and by showing up and doing your civic duty to defend the rights of your fellow Americans.
Do not blow this off thinking oppression can’t happen here. It will if we sit on the sidelines while bullies
pick on the citizens of our Commonwealth.

#7 - “It’s just one ballot measure, it’s not a big de…”

We are THE first state to have the entire electorate have to vote in defense of our own laws protecting
human rights on this issue. If we slack off and don’t ensure that everyone votes Yes on 3 to defend
this law, that defeat will ripple through to inspire the bigots in the 18 other states who have such
protections in place. You can’t claim to be a good person if you sit by while bullies attack your fellow
citizens at the ballot box. It is your civic duty to defend the rights of your fellow Americans.

#8 - “But there’s only male and fema…”

That’s what we teach elementary school children. Adults know that the human species includes people
born with: xxy chromosomes, partial or mixed private parts, different hormonal variances that can give
someone both male and feminine body features or cause late onset penis development or no genitals
at all, or a whole host of things. “But those are mutatio…” dude so is having red hair but I don’t see
us making bathroom bills for gingers (in fact, having red hair is the same rarity as being born intersex,
1-2% of the human population). And that’s not even covering the science around human gender -
children are taught that sex and gender are the same thing. Adults know that gender is separate and
has just as much variance. Human civilizations have been aware of this for thousands of years across
multiple continents. In fact, why are we at all surprised by this when so many other aspects of the
human form have a spectrum … hair color, eye color, skin color - none of those things are simple “one
or the other” things. And human sex and gender are just like that.

#9 - “Won’t someone please think of the childre…”

We ARE thinking of them. Do you know how high the suicide rate is for transgender children who face
oppression and discrimination in school and in public? You want little kids killing themselves because
they’re afraid adults will hurt them while they discover who they are? Protect children by keeping this
law in place and voting Yes.
