Electrical Specification Telephone System

PART – 18
TELEPHONE SYSTEM

1.0 GENERAL

The Contractor shall supply and install telephone system including telephone cabinets, cable trays,
telephone socket outlets, trunking, conducts and wires upto telephone cabinets complete as shown
on the drawings, as specified and to Local Telephone Authorities (ETISALAT) approval.

This contract for the shopping complex only requires the contractor to provide a complete
containment system to suit the system as indicated on the drawings.

2.0 TELEPHONE DISTRIBUTION FRAME

Suitable wall or floor mounted distribution frame shall be provided. Terminals shall be identified
by numbered tags corresponding to the respective lines or extensions.

3.0 TELEPHONE OUTLET

Telephone outlet shall be as specified under "WIRING DEVICES"

4.0 TELEPHONE WIRING

Telephone cables and wires shall be either purchased from "Etisalat" or from any other manufacturer
approved by Etisalat and to their satisfaction as well as to the approval of Engineer.

All telephone cables shall be properly labeled and identified ready for termination by Etisalat.

Cables at the floor distribution points shall have the end sealed and sufficient length left for
termination.

Sufficient cable length must be left at all socket points to allow later termination.

5.0 TELEPHONE CABINETS

Telephone cabinets shall be a general purpose type enclosure for surface mounting of size and
location as indicated on the drawings and to "Etisalat's" approval.

Cabinets shall house all terminal blocks necessary for terminating and tapping telephone cables.
Ample space terminals shall be provided.

All telephone cabinets shall have an identifying name plate of laminated phenolic material with 8 mm
wide letters on a black background. Nomenclature shall be as instructed or agreed upon with the
Engineer.
Cabinet shall be fabricated from minimum 1.5 mm thick galvanized sheet steel, galvanized after
fabrication. Joints shall be welded and reinforced where required.

Cover shall be fabricated from a minimum 2 mm cold rolled sheet steel.

Cover shall be fastened to the cabinet flanges by the use of counter sunk flat head machine screws or
ovalhead machine screws with finishing washers.

Exterior of surface mounted cabinet shall be given a minimum of one coat of gray enamel.

Trim shall be given one prime coat and one finish coat gray lacquer.

Concealed surfacing of flush mounted cabinets shall be given field application of Emulsified asphalt
prior to installation.

Dedicated telephone system earthing shall be provided. The earthing system shall consist of earth
bar fixed on proper supports, installed in main telephone room and connected to earth pit. The
telephone system earth resistance value shall not exceeds 10 Ohm as required and approved by
Etisalat.
