Deber 3
Fecha de entrega: 25-octubre-2018

1. Repasar la teoría del Capítulo 5 (Failures resulting from static loading) del libro Shigley’s Mechanical
Design.

2. A gear reduction unit uses the countershaft

shown in the figure. Gear A receives power from
another gear with the transmitted force FA
applied at the 20 pressure angle as shown. The
power is transmitted through the shaft and
delivered through gear B through a transmitted
force FB at the pressure angle shown.
a. Determine the force FB, assuming the shaft is
running at a constant speed
b. Find the magnitudes of the bearing reaction
forces, assuming the bearings act as simple
supports
c. Draw shear-force and bending-moment
diagrams for the shaft
d. Determine the critical section
e. Draw the stress state of potential critical
points
f. Determine the critical point
g. Compute factors of safety, based upon the maximum-shear stress (Tresca, nT) and the distortion
energy (von Mises, nvM) theories, assuming Sy = 350 MPa

3. The bar shown in the figure is made of AISI

1006 cold-drawn steel and is loaded by the
forces F = 0.55 kN, P = 4.0 kN, and T = 25
N·m.
a. Find the magnitudes of the reaction forces
b. Draw shear-force and bending-moment
diagrams for the bar
c. Determine the critical section
d. Draw the stress state of potential critical
points
e. Determine the critical point
f. Compute factors of safety, based upon the
Tresca (nT) and the von Mises (nvM)
theories

4. A ductile hot-rolled steel bar has a minimum yield strength in tension and compression of 350 MPa.
Using von Mises and Tresca theories, determine the factors of safety for the following stress states:
a. σxx = 100 MPa, σyy = 100 MPa
b. σxx = 100 MPa, σyy = 50 MPa
c. σxx = 100 MPa, σxy = −75MPa
d. σxx = −50 MPa, σyy = −75 MPa σxy = −50 MPa
e. σxx = 100 MPa, σyy = 20 MPa σxy = −20 MPa

5. A 1020 CD steel shaft is to transmit 20 hp while rotating at 1750 rpm. Determine the minimum diameter
for the shaft to provide a minimum factor of safety of 3 based on:
a. the maximum-shear stress theory (nT)
b. the distortion energy theory (nvM)

6. Deduzca las expresiones para determinar los esfuerzos tangencial (o circunferencial) σθθ y longitudinal σzz
de un cilindro de pared delgada sometido a una presión interna p.
