™ O Mankind ! There has come to you an exhortation from your

Lord and a healing for what is in your hearts and a guidance
Foreword
and a mercy for the believers.
A distinctive feature of the Shariah (Islamic Laws) brought by
(Ayah 57 : Surah Yunus)
Prophet Muhammad (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) is that it
contains a clear, adequate and practical guidance concerning all

matters regarding life. The Holy Prophet (Sallallaahu Alayhi
Wasallam) has said ‘ IMAAN has more than seventy (according to
some, seventy seven) branches of which the most important is the
recitation of LAA – ILAAHA – ILLALLAAH (There is none
worthy of worship except ALLAH (Subhanahu wa Ta’ala)), and the
least one is to remove some obstacles (stone, wood, thorn, etc…) from
the way; and modesty is also a special requisite of IMAAN. ‘
(Bukhari & Muslim)

Note : Modesty has been specially mentioned, because it acts

as a means of safeguarding against many sins like adultery, theft,
indecent talks, pornography, etc. Similarly the fear of bad reputation
leads to virtuous acts; In fact, fear of being disgraced in this worldly
life as well as in the hereafter (life after death) leads man towards all
good deeds (Salah (Namaz), Zakah, Hajj, etc) and obedience in all
respect to ALMIGHTY ALLAH (Subhanahu wa Ta’ala). Thus
there is a well know proverb Be shameless and do whatever you like.

“ If you do not feel ashamed you will do whatever you like, “

(Bukhari).
The fact is that we abstain from all misdeeds for fear of disgrace and
shame. A sense of modesty and shame makes one think “If I do not
offer Salah (Namaz), I will face disgrace in the hereafter (life after

death). “ But if one has lost all sense of modesty and shame he will
say “what does it matter if others call me low. “
(Shaykh – ul – Hadith Maulana Zakariyya (Rahmatullahi Alaih))
Hadhrat Abdullah bin Omar (Radhiallahu Anhu) narrates
that the Prophet Muhammad (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) said, (it
is understandable that) “ Without doubt, HAYA (Modesty and
Shame) and IMAAN are both partners. They go hand - in - hand.
When one ceases to exist the other also ceases to exist. “

Modesty is a distinctive trait of the believers. Those nations
which are far removed from the teaching of the Messenger of
ALLAH (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) have no regard for modesty
and shame. Modesty and Faith (IMAAN) are inseparable. Both
stand and fall together. Non – observance of the Veil (Burqa) and its
corollaries have come into vogue among so – called Muslims in
emulation of the ways of the non believers. It is they who are running
the campaign of bringing out Muslim women from Veil (Burqa) and
exhibiting them on the platform of immodesty. These people instead
of following the example of Messenger of ALLAH (Sallallaahu
Alayhi Wasallam) have adopted the modes and habits of non
believers. These people are in the dilemma. They are inclined to see
Muslim women moving about freely and immodestly through the
markets and parks. At the same time they have not the heart to
pronounce the precepts of the Qur’aan and Sunnah as wrong. They
cannot muster up courage to say that they have renounced Islam, nor
can they bear to see the women in Veil (Burqa) Many of those who
are trying to promote the custom of non – observance of the Veil
(Burqa) and have made their women immodest and shameless as the
non believers, have found a way of satisfying their carnal desires by
looking at their semi – naked bodies, are Muslims for name sake.

They have lost the treasure of Faith (IMAAN) along with their
modesty and shame.
There is large section of people who cling to Islam to
some degree, but their inclination to emulate ways of non believers
and their immodest and shameless nature are gradually drawing
away from Islam. The Messenger of ALLAH (Sallallaahu Alayhi
Wasallam) said that modesty and Faith (IMAAN) are two
companions and that when is removed, the other too is removed is
quite true. Experience proves the truth of this saying.

It should be remembered that to make fun of even the smallest
part of DEEN (ISLAM) becomes the cause of Kufr. Should any
person not perform a single “Salah (Namaz)” in his life, not fast one
single day or fail to perform any Fardh obligations in ISLAM, then
that person does not become a Kaafir (unbeliever), as long as he does
not deny they being necessary. However one will be certainly
punished for any Fardh that has been neglected. But to scoff and jeer
at any tiniest aspect of DEEN (ISLAM) is Kufr and can result in all
good actions being invalidated. From this it can be seen how delicate
this matter is. Such irresponsible utterances should never be made
about DEEN (ISLAM).
(Shaykh – ul – Hadith Maulana Zakariyya (Rahmatullahi Alaih))
Westernisation has gripped the existence of Muslim
mentality and its cancerous growth is attacking the very roots of
IMAAN and hence ISLAM. In these days, there is whole - hearted
and concerted effort by a group of people going on through out this
world, to which Muslims are unaware. The sole aim of these people is
to eliminate ISLAM from this world. And this they are doing by
conducting deep research into the Holy Qur’aan and Hadith and

selecting such topics from them, which can be utilized to eliminate
ISLAM from this world, quickly and easily. Take for example Veil
(Parda), from the Hadith of the Holy Prophet (Sallallaahu Alayhi
Wasallam) it is understandable that IMAAN and HAYA go hand -
in - hand. They both exist together. If one ceases to exist, the other
also ceases to exist-----this people know these aspects very well. So to
eliminate IMAAN they are trying to eliminate HAYA from the
lives of Muslims all over the world. And in this regard as we can see
that they have achieved a great amount of success through their evil
schemes; through which they misguide people about ISLAM; they
develop and propagate those things that go against the blessed
teachings of the Holy Prophet (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam). For
example : designing such clothes from which the privacy is lost and
thus making HAYA extinct. Likewise there are many such things on
which they are working and experimenting to eliminate HAYA and
eventually to eliminate IMAAN and thus ISLAM.
The ways and methods that ISLAM adopts to spread the
message of ALLAH (Subhanahu wa Ta’ala) through out the world
are unique and not to be found elsewhere. ISLAM is always fond of
persuasive, encouraging and a soft hearted approach as a means to
spread ISLAM. But at times, a little bit of force needs to be applied.
For example : A person is fast asleep in his house and unexpectedly
the house catches fire, at that moment if one has to awake him, a kind
of approach may not serve the purpose but he needs to be awakened
by a little bit of force or else his life may be put to danger. So also if a
person forces someone to offer Salah (Namaz), he is doing a good
thing as he is saving that person from the dreaded fire of hell in the
hereafter (life after death). And the force if compared with the fire of
the hell in the hereafter (life after death) is much better. And the force
applied by the person cannot be labeled as “an act against ISLAM”.

This aspect applies to all parts of DEEN (ISLAM) such as Parda,
Zakah, Hajj, etc.
Some Ayats (Verses) from the Holy Qur’aan and some
sayings of blessed Prophet (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) are being
brought forth relating to HAYA and PARDA. In preparing this
book, citations from various reliable and authentic books have been
reproduced here.
This book is being brought out with a view of safeguarding
HAYA and IMAAN. We hope that we all benefit from it and make
PARDA a mandatory in all our lives.
We apologise for our mistakes if any and make a humble
request for Du’a (Prayer) for all the people who have helped in some

Say thou13 to the faithful that they shall lower their sights14 and guard
their private parts;15 that is cleaner for them.16 Verily ALLAH is

And say to the believing women that they shall lower their sight1 and
guard their private parts2 and shall not disclose their adornment3
except what appears of it:4 And they shall draw their scarves over
their bosoms,5 and shall not disclose their adornment save to their
husbands6 or their fathers or their husband’s fathers or their sons or

their husband’s sons or their brothers or their brother’s sons or their
sisters or their sister’s sons7 or their women8 or what their right hands
own9 or male followers wanting in sex desire10 or children not

adornment.14 And turn penitently15 to ALLAH you all, O you
faithful;16 haply17 you may thrive.18

“wanting in sex desire”. The reference is to the male
attendants who through disease or extreme old age have lost
reason and manhood.

ornament of their feet lest it may be suggestive of sex appeal.
Even such remote (far away) stimulants (to excite) to sex
passions are interdicted (prohibited) in Islam ! Compare and
contrast with this the open lewdness (indecency) and
solicitations (immoral purpose) of the modern dancing – halls.

flagrant indecency,13 doubled for her would be the punishment twice

signification, but it is metaphorically applied to all other kinds
of garment ; or a shirt, absolutely, or the one that envelops the
whole body; or a garment with which a person in entirely

(7) As respectable matrons and free women, in contrast with the
female slaves who did not cover their faces.

believing women were exposed in their walk abroad the rude
remarks of disaffected and licentious ( immoral in sexual
relation ) citizens; they were therefore commanded to throw
around their garments around them so as partially to veil their
persons and conceal their ornaments.

Prophet (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam)
Regarding Satr & Parda
We have divided this section into three categories, i.e.
™ Sayings of Prophet (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) common
for both men and women are included in general category.
™ Sayings of Prophet (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) for Men.
™ Sayings of Prophet (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) for
Women.
Let us begin with a serious warning concerning HAYA.
“ WHENEVER ALLAH (JALLE JALAALAHU) WISHES
TO DESTROY A PERSON, HE FIRST SNATCHES HAYA
AWAY. ”

Sayings of Prophet (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam)
common for both men and women in General
1) It is related by Jarhad bin Khuwailid (Radhiallahu Anhu) that
Prophet (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) said “Do you know
that the thigh (too), is included in SATR? (It is not permitted
to expose it also to view)?”

Commentary :
About the parts of the human body that are generally called
the private parts, even those who do not believe in ALLAH
(Subhanahu wa Ta’ala) or follow any other religion also agree
that they should not remain uncovered. But from the above
Tradition we learn that SATR not only includes the private
parts but also the area that surrounds them i.e. the Thighs,
which too must be kept covered with garments. This above
saying marks the complete guidance concerning SATR.

2) It is related by Abu Saeed Khudri (Radhiallahu Anhu) that
Prophet (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) said “A man must
not cast a glance at the SATR of any other man, nor a woman
at the SATR of any woman.”
(Muslim)
Commentary :
It shows that according to Islamic Laws (Shariah) it is not
permissible to look at the SATR (private parts) of same
gender. This of course is what Modesty means. Under some
serious circumstances or conditions when it is necessary to do
so are exceptions.

3) It is related by Abdullah bin Omar (Radhiallahu Anhu) that
Prophet (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) said “ Oh People!
Abstain from nakedness (also in privacy). (Do not bare the
SATR even when you are alone). The angels are always with
you and they never leave you except at the time of defecation
(relieving oneself) or copulation (intercourse) between husband
and wife. So, observe modesty and be respectful in their

presence (too).”

Commentary :
From the above saying it is evident that the angels like then
one who record our deeds are always with us at all times and
only part when one is naked for the fulfilling his natural urge.

4) Hasan Basri (Rahmatullahi Alaih) narrates, it has been
related to me that Prophet (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam)
said “ The curse of ALLAH is on him who sees, and on him
who is seen. ”
(Bayhaqi)
Commentary :
This Tradition is compact in nature and the general rule
prescribed in it is that every unlawful gaze is curseable. Not
only he/she is cursed who casts a lustful glance but he/she is
also cursed who deliberately and willfully stands at a place to
be gazed upon him/her unlawfully. Moreover, whoso exposes
forbidden parts (SATR) of his/her before others, is also liable
to be cursed.

5) It is narrated by Abdullah bin Abbas (Radhiallahu Anhu) that
Prophet (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) said “Whosoever will
wear dress for display or fame in this world, ALLAH will
make him wear the dress of ignominy (dishonour) in the
Hereafter (life after death).”

Commentary :
The phrase SOUBA - SHOHORAT (dress of fame) used in
the original text denoted that apparel (clothing, dress) worn
for any type of display or fame. The above saying applies to
all, people who have knowledge i.e. if they wear dress to
display their importance, the people who have wealth i.e. if
they wear dress to display their fame and even to common
people i.e. if they wear dress and feel proud. So it is clear that
everything depends on intension (niyyaah). But if someone
wears dress without any of such intensions then that will not
be only lawful for him but also a means for pleasing
ALMIGHTY ALLAH (Subhanahu wa Ta’ala) (i.e. for
showing gratitude and humbleness towards ALMIGHTY
ALLAH (Subhanahu wa Ta’ala)).
So as we do not know what lies in someone’s heart it
will be wrong (sinful) to criticize or point someone for his dress
and to have ill feeling about someone that he/she wears dress
for display and fame. Here what is more important that we
should look upon ourselves i.e. upon our own dress and
intension instead of looking at someone else and that is what
the main aim of the warning above narrated.

6) The Messenger (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) said:
“ALLAH curses those men who imitate the women, and He
curses those women who imitate the men.”
(Bukhari)

7) Abdullah ibn Omar said he heard ALLAH's Messenger
(Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) say : “ The man who

resembles a woman and the woman who resembles a man is
not from us . ”
(Musnad – I - Ahmad and Tabarani)

8) Hadhrat Umaima (Radhiallahu Anha) narrated : Some
women and I went to the presence of Messenger of ALLAH
(Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) for the purpose of taking oath
of allegiance to Islam. The women submitted : “O Messenger
of ALLAH (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) we take oath of
allegiance on the following conditions : we shall not set up
partners with ALLAH; we shall not steal; we shall not
commit adultery; we shall not kill our offspring’s; we shall not
carry an illegitimate child to drop him between our hands and
feet and attribute him to our husbands; we shall not disobey
you in all virtuous acts. On hearing this he Messenger of
ALLAH (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) said : ‘Say this also
that we shall act according to the best of our capacity.’ On
hearing this the women submitted ALLAH and His
Messenger (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) are more kind to
us than we are to ourselves. Thereafter these women
submitted : “ O Messenger of ALLAH (Sallallaahu Alayhi
Wasallam) (we have taken a verbal vow) Give us your hand so
that we may perform the formal act of allegiance. On hearing
this the Messenger of ALLAH (Sallallaahu Alayhi
Wasallam) observed : ‘ I do not shake hands with women. ’
(Whatever I have said is obligatory upon all. Further, there is
no need to take formal allegiance individually). Whatever I
have said to you collectively applies to every individual
woman among you.”

Commentary :
This Tradition reveals that the preceptor of the world
Muhammad, the Messenger of ALLAH (Sallallaahu Alayhi
Wasallam) never touched the hand of any woman in order to
accept the allegiance. Whenever a woman offered her
allegiance, He (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) would say : ‘
Yes, I accept your allegiance.’ When some women collectively
offered their allegiance, the Messenger of ALLAH
(Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) would say : ‘ I do not shake
hands with women.’
Further He (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) observed :
“ I say to women collectively that which I say to each woman
individually.” This implication is that allegiance does not take
place by formal holding of hands. Verbal profession of
allegiance is sufficient. So when verbal allegiance suffices,
there is no need to hold the hand of an unfamiliar woman.

for Men
1) It is related by Ali (Radhiallahu Anhu) that the Apostle of
ALLAH (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) said to him “ O Ali !
Do not reveal your thigh, nor look at anyone’s thigh, living or
dead.”

2) It is related by Behnz bin Hakeem on the authority of his
father Hakeem, and he on the authority of his father

Muawiya bin haidah (Radhiallahu Anhu) that the Apostle of
ALLAH (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) said : “ Guard
private parts of your body. (Do not bare them before anyone)
except your wife ….. ” (Muawiya bin haidah related that) “ I,
thereupon asked the Apostle of ALLAH (Sallallaahu Alayhi
Wasallam) : “ What about the situation in which man is alone
and no one is seeing him?” ‘ALLAH is more deserving of it
and He has a greater claim to it that the bondsman observed
modesty in His presence.’ The Prophet (Sallallaahu Alayhi
Wasallam) replied.”
(Tirmidhi, Abu Dawood and Ibn Maja)

3) Jareer bin Abdullah (Radhiallahu Anhu) relates that “ (once), I
enquired from the Apostle of ALLAH (Sallallaahu Alayhi
Wasallam) about seeing by chance. (What was I to do if my
glance fell unintentionally, on a NAA - MAHARAM
woman or on the SATR of anyone?)” “ Turn your eyes away
from her (or it )”, the Prophet (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam)
replied.

4) Buraidah related to us that, once the Apostle of ALLAH
(Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) said to Ali : “ O Ali ! (if you
see NAA - MAHRAM woman by chance), do not look at
her twice. Your first glance ( which is unintentional ) is lawful,
( and will not be called to account ), but the second is not. ”

5) Hadhrat Abu Umamah (Radhiallahu Anhu) has reported that
Prophet (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) as saying, “ If any
Muslim happens to look at a woman’s beauties and then
lowers his eyes, ALLAH will produce for him an act of
worship whose sweetness he will experience. ”
(Musnad - I – Ahmad)
Commentary :
From the above narration we come to know that in return for
an illegitimate (improper) pleasure, the ALMIGHTY
ALLAH (Subhanahu wa Ta’ala) will bestow upon the
bondsman the exquisite (extreme beauty) spiritual boon
(blessing) of the sweetness of worship in this very world, even
before the Day of Resurrection and Final Judgment.

6) The Prophet (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) is reported to
have said that it can be tolerated that a nail is driven in one’s
head but it cannot be tolerated that he touches a woman who
is not permissible for him.

7) It is related by Omar (Radhiallahu Anhu) that the Apostle of
ALLAH (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) said : “ It can never
be that a NAA -MAHRAM man met a woman when they
were alone and a third ( the devil ) was not present ( at that
time or place ). ”

Commentary :
The meaning of the above tradition is that when a NAA -
MAHRAM man will be alone with a woman, the devil will
surely try to play his tricks and lead them astray. It will
therefore be safer and wiser not to give him such an
opportunity.

7) Uqbah bin Aamir (Radhiallahu Anhu) narrated that “ The
Messenger of ALLAH (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam)
instructed : ‘ Do not go to unfamiliar women. ’ A man
enquired : ‘ O Messenger of ALLAH (Sallallaahu Alayhi
Wasallam) what is the order about the male in - laws of a
woman? ’ He Messenger of ALLAH (Sallallaahu Alayhi
Wasallam) replied : ‘ The in – laws are death.’ ”
(Bukhari and Muslim)
Commentary :
Among the relatives of husband his father and sons are
MAHRAM for the wife, but apart from them, all other
relatives including her husbands (real) brothers are NAA -
MAHRAM. For them it is extremely unsafe to come freely in
her house and intermingle.

8) It is related by Jabir (Radhiallahu Anhu) that the Apostle of
ALLAH (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) said : “ Do not,
(particularly) go into the houses of women whose husbands
are gone (on a journey, etc.) for (the effects and influences (of))
the devil (Satan) is always present in everyone and running
through them (invisibly) like the blood in the veins.” In you too
O Apostle of ALLAH (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam)? we

asked. “ Yes; in me too,” the Apostle of ALLAH (Sallallaahu
Alayhi Wasallam) replied. “ But there is the special favour of
the ALMIGHTY upon me, (in this matter) owing to which I
remain safe and protected. ”

Commentary :
There is naturally, a greater danger of falling prey to the
inducements of the devil (Satan) when NAA - MAHRAM
men come in close contact with women whose husbands have
gone on a journey or not living with them for some other
reason. The Holy Prophet (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) has
thus warned against it in particular, and said that no one
should imagine himself protected against the temptations of
Satan who takes hold of our minds suddenly and without we
knowing it.
It is worthy to note here that the Prophet (Sallallaahu
Alayhi
Wasallam) has not described freedom from the evil designs of
devil (Satan) as his own virtues or attainment, but an
exceptional favour of the Lord. Indeed this is the highest state
of self - surrender.

for Women
1) Hadhrat Abdullah bin Omar (Radhiallahu Anhu) reported :
The Messenger of ALLAH (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam)

“ Woman is something to be concealed. There is no doubt that
when she goes out of her home Satan starts peeping at her and
it is certain that a woman is nearest to ALLAH when she
keeps within the bounds of her home. ”
(Tabarani)
Commentary :
This Tradition in the first place defines the position of the
woman, that is, she is something to be concealed. It is
obligatory upon the woman to stay within the four walls of her
home. The woman who transgresses the bounds of her Veil
(Burqa) has passed beyond the bounds of womanhood.
Next He (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) said : When
a woman emerges out of her house, Satan begins to glance at
her.
This implication is that when a woman goes out Satan
will try to induce people to derive pleasure by looking at her
appearance, beauty, dress and ornaments.
Proceeding He (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam)
continued : The woman is nearest to ALLAH when she is
inside her home. The women who seek nearness to ALLAH,
like to stay indoors and avoid going outdoors as much as
possible. ISLAM enjoins women to stay inside their homes as
much as possible. The permission to go out under some
compulsion is subjected to several conditions. For instance,
they should not go out while wearing perfume. Further it is
ordained that a woman should not walk in the middle of the
road. If she has to go out, she should wrap her body with a
thin sheet of cloth (however there is permission to keep one
eye open in order to see the way).
Further it is enjoined that when the eye of a man falls
on an unfamiliar woman or the eye of a woman catches sight

of an unfamiliar man, they should turn their glances away
immediately. If a woman is constrained to talk to an
unfamiliar male then she should not talk in a soft tone. It is
also ordained that a woman should not travel without a
familiar companion who is reliable too. Traveling is forbidden
with even a familiar male who is wicked and untrustworthy.
“ ALL THESE RULES IN FACT HAVE BEEN LAID
DOWN TO PROTECT THE MODESTY AND
CHASTITY OF WOMEN ”

2) It is related by Abdullah bin Abbas (Radhiallahu Anhu) that
the Apostle of ALLAH (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) said :
“ Women, as it is were, is
SATR. (Just as SATR should be concealed, in the same way,
a woman should remain at home and in PARDA). When she
goes out, the devils cast coquettish (behave as women who
flirt) glances at her. ”

Commentary :
In Arabic, the word ‘AURAT denotes a thing or a part of the
body it is essential to keep covered and to expose which is
undesirable. In the above Tradition, the phrase EL –
MARA’ATU ‘AURAT has been used which denotes that it
is the peculiarity of a women that she remains in PARDA.
The observation that when a woman goes out the
devils cast coquettish (behave as woman who flirts) glances at
her signifies that as far as possible women should stay in their
homes and thus remain protected from the mischief of devils
and their followers and disciples. If and when they go out for a
valid reason they are to cover themselves with a cloak (Burqa)

meaning and intention of the Quranic Ayah

3) Ayesha (Radhiallahu Anha) narrates that “ once my sister
(Asma), went to the Apostle of ALLAH (Sallallaahu Alayhi
Wasallam) wearing a thin dress upon which the Apostle of
ALLAH (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) turned his face away
from her and said “ O Asma ! When a woman attains
puberty, it is not proper for any part of her body be visible
except her face and hands. ”
(Abu Dawood)
Commentary :
It shows that ladies are not allowed to wear dress through
which the body can be seen. The face and the hands can
indeed be left uncovered.
It needs to be remembered that in this Tradition the
commandment of SATR for woman has been set forth. The
commandment regarding PARDA is different which lays
down that women should not go out unnecessarily and when
they may have to do so they should wear a Veil or Cloak
(Burqa). The commands of SATR and PARDA are two
separate commands and spheres of their operation too are
different though some persons are prone to confuse then with
one another.
The incident related here, is perhaps taken place before
the commandment concerning PARDA was revealed because
after it Hadhrat Asma (Radhiallahu Anha) could not have
appeared before Holy Prophet (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam)
in that manner.

4) Hadhrat Umm ul Momineen (Mother of the Faithful)
Hadhrat Umm e Salma (Radhiallahu Anha) reported : “
Hadhrat Maimoona (Radhiallahu Anha) and I were with the
Messenger of ALLAH (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) when
suddenly Hadhrat Abdullah bin Umm e Maktum
(Radhiallahu Anhu) appeared in front of us and sought to
approach ALLAH’s Messenger (Sallallaahu Alayhi
Wasallam). Since Abdullah was a blind man we made no
attempt to observe veil from him and kept our seats. The
Messenger of ALLAH (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) said
to us ‘observe veil from him’. I submitted : “ O Messenger of
ALLAH (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) isn’t he blind ? He is
not seeing us. ” ALLAH’s Messenger (Sallallaahu Alayhi
Wasallam) replied : Are you two also blind ? Aren’t you
seeing him ? ’

Commentary :
This Tradition shows that as far as possible the women
should not cast a look at men. Abdullah (Radhiallahu Anhu)
was blind. He was a virtuous companion. Similarly both the
wives of Messenger of ALLAH (Sallallaahu Alayhi
Wasallam) were chaste and pure. Despite all this He
(Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) ordered his two wives to
observe veil from Hadhrat Abdullah (Radhiallahu Anhu) that
is to avoid looking at him.
Look ! Where there was not the slightest of danger of
gazing with evil intentions even so much safety measure was
exercised there. How can then a modern woman are permitted
to gaze at men. It is another matter if a woman’s eye by
chance falls on the wayfarers while she is on her way. But it is
unlawful for her to look at men voluntarily (with or without

evil intensions). The verse (Ayah) of Surah Ahzaab had been
quoted above wh9ich enjoins men and women to lower their
gaze.

5) It is narrated in the Hadith that Prophet (Sallallaahu Alayhi
Wasallam) saw a women in the Hell who was in terrific pain,
her height was such that her single strand of her hair was
plucked as the tree is rooted out. Similarly each and every hair
of her body was been plucked in the same way. Who was she ?
She was the one who used to roam about in the streets with
her head being uncovered. And she used to appear before
NAA – MAHRAM men with her head being uncovered.
It is also narrated in one Hadith that Prophet (Sallallaahu
Alayhi Wasallam) saw a women in the Hell, who was
hanging with her hairs and her brain was boiling like a vessel.
This type of punishment was given to her for roaming in the
streets keeping her head uncovered and also for not hiding her
hairs before NAA – MAHRAM.

6) Hadhrat Ali (Radhiallahu Anhu) narrates, “ We were present
with Prophet (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) when he
(Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) asked us : ‘ Tell me, what
thing is best for woman ? ’ ”
The Sahaaba (Radhiallahu Anhum) present
maintained silence. Hadhrat Ali (Radhiallahu Anhu) relates,
“ I returned and asked Fatima (Radhiallahu Anha) ‘ What
thing is best for women ? ’ ”
She replied, ‘ That (unlawful) men do not see them. ’

Upon which Hadhrat Khadijah (Radhiallahu Anha) replied
that if He (Jibra’eel (Alayhis Salaam)) is visible once again
inform me. At that very moment again Prophet (Sallallaahu
Alayhi Wassallam) said to Hadhrat Khadijah (Radhiallahu
Anha) that He (Jibra’eel (Alayhis Salaam)) has appeared
again. Hadhrat Khadijah (Radhiallahu Anha) wrapped Her
dupatta around the Holy Prophet (Sallallaahu Alayhi
Wassallam) from one side, upon which Prophet (Sallallaahu

In the name of ALLAH, the most Compassionate, the most Merciful
Acts & Things Spreading Immodesty
According to the Hadith stated on the first page of this book,
HAYA is a special characteristic of Mumin (Believer).
When Muslims were arising as a powerful community at that time
the non believers many a times fought with Muslims with their full
strength and power yet they had to face defeats. They studied the
Qur’aan and Hadith thoroughly at last they came up with the
solution that the Muslims possess a spiritual strength which is
named IMAAN (Faith) and due to which they are gaining victory
over us. Therefore they made an oath, that they have to snatch away
this spiritual power from the Muslims and then only they can take a
sigh of relief. But this was a big problem for them. Then they again
went through Qur’aan and Hadith and they came up with the answer
that HAYA is a sister of IMAAN (Faith). When HAYA is
snatched away then IMAAN (Faith) will also vanish very easily.
From that time they started spreading immodesty and they have been
very much successful in their plan.
Those whom ALLAH (Subhanahu wa Ta’ala) has bestowed
with the gift of thinking, blame immodesty for the corruption of
society. And they point towards some acts and things due to which
immodesty prevailing in the society, so that Muslims wake up and
know about these things which are spread to destroy them literally.
So that Muslims wake up and eliminate all these immodest acts and
things to safeguard their IMAAN.

Television
First thing in the list, which is spreading immodesty is T.V. This box
has made our men and women shameless and erased the Holy act of
Purda (Veil). In the early age when children’s were asked what will
you be when you are grown up. The sweet children would reply that I
will be Salauddin Ayyaubi, some would say I will be Mahmood
Ghaznawi. But now if our children’s are asked what you will be when
you are grown up. You will get the reply that I will be like that film
actor and some will say that I will be like that film actress. This
thinking is not only restricted to our kid but also our young brothers
and sisters and old men too. So we ourselves can think that by taking
these film actors and actresses as our ideal persons what amount of
HAYA (MODESTY & SHAME) will we possess. Seeing all this
we can clearly state these thoughts are the results of T.V. We don’t
even know our aim for which we have been created.
ALLAH (Subhanahu wa Ta’ala) says in the Glorious Qur’aan,

“ Deem ye that We have created you in vain and that unto Us ye are
not to be returned ? ”
(Surah Mu’minoon, Ayah 115)
No never ALLAH (Subhanahu wa Ta’ala) has not created us in vain
but for a big purpose and that is we worship HIM. Worship means
that each and every act at every moment is in accordance with the
commandments of ALLAH (Subhanahu wa Ta’ala). So we ourselves
can think, are we leading our lives according to the commands and is
watching T.V. included in that? As whole day and night we are busy
in watching T.V. and hardly we give some time for the acts of
worship, then how will we gain peace and happiness by such

worship? According to Hadith, to look at NAA - MAHRAM is
like committing Zina (Adultery) of eyes, listening to NAA -
MAHRAM is like committing Zina (Adultery) of ears, to touch
NAA - MAHRAM is like committing Zina (Adultery) of hands,
walking towards NAA - MAHRAM is like committing Zina
(Adultery) of legs. As you can see all these sins are committed just
with one and only one thing that is T.V. We have drowned ourselves
in sins from head to toe then how can the MERCY of ALLAH
(Subhanahu wa Ta’ala) be bestowed on us. When we start running
away from MERCY of ALLAH (Subhanahu wa Ta’ala) then each
and every coming day will bring us sorrows, pains and sufferings.
Now a day’s every person is surrounded by problems. But no one
knows that these are the consequences of the box named T.V. It is
due to this T.V., that our brothers and sisters are adopting the
immoral ways and cultures. Due to these reasons our desires are
increasing day by day. Men and women who wear semi naked dresses
are regarded as modern and are held in high esteem and the one
whose dresses are in accordance with Sunnah are regarded as old
fashioned and out dated. In the same way the dupatta’s are all
vanished and rarely if worn by some one it is just left on the shoulders
and hence erasing its whole meaning of wearing it. It is this box
(T.V) which is the cause for our absence from the spiritual and
religious gatherings because we may miss our favorite programs or
serials. Today this serials and programs are of greater importance to
us then the blessed religious and spiritual gatherings (May ALLAH
(Subhanahu wa Ta’ala) save us). If you ask the people who are
interested in T.V. what about your Salah? They reply that they
hardly get time to offer or some reply that we get time to offer just
once or twice a day. On the contrary they don’t even miss a single
serial. Another drawback from this T.V. is that our new younger
generations are lagging behind in the field of education. Day by day
they are getting more involved in T.V. They are neither concerned

about their future nor are they concerned about their present
condition, you will find these people in front of T.V. the whole day
like a statue as if this is the solution of all their problems. Where has
all our sense of humor gone?, that our children’s, adults and elders all
sit in front of T.V. crossing all the boundaries of HAYA (Modesty
and Shame). T.V. serials and programs that scatter the sense of
modesty and shame are viewed with greater interest and pleasure. All
the spiritual activities of the whole day are affected by just an hour of
watching this T.V. serials and programs, like they are eating but the
scene is in front of their eyes, they are offering Salah and they have
the same scene in their thoughts, they are sleeping with all these evil
thoughts in mind and hence enjoying evil pleasures in their dreams.
The evil thoughts of whole day corrupt our minds and hearts and it
becomes very difficult to get rid of the same and purify ourselves.
Apart from the spiritual loss if you ask the researcher’s they
will provide you with detail explanation of major physical losses too.

Marriage Ceremonies & Functions
The ways in which the ceremonies & functions are held in the name
of Marriage at present age is nothing but the traditions and customs
of the non believers. We being Muslims the foll0wers of Truth have
adopted these traditions & customs of non believers leaving the
blessed ways of our Prophet (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam). These
ceremonies & functions held in accordance to the ways of non
believers in the name of marriage today have become the basic means
of spreading immodesty in the society. Marriage is Sunnah but
organizing grand ceremonies & functions that imitate the ways of
non believers, in the name of Marriage & also to attend such
functions where the boundaries of HAYA (Modesty & Shame) set

by Shariah are exceeded, is sinful. As we see that such ceremonies &
functions are crowded with women but the shocking thing is that
“ Women attending such types of ceremonies & functions are
nowhere justified in Shariah. ”
Even the women who in their daily life observe Purda & are regarded
as pious, get mingle in the company of men at such ceremonies &
functions, breaking all the Hijaab set by Shariah between men and
women. You will find men and women intermingling with each other
as if everyone attending these ceremonies & functions are
MAHRAM. Such gatherings become the breeding grounds for
developing illicit relations especially the younger group gets
completely involved in such things. Today everyone is so keen
(interested) to attend such gatherings where HAYA (Modesty &
Shame) is stripped off and hence IMAAN along with that. The
Spirituality one possesses due to IMAAN is all lost by attending
such gatherings. (May ALLAH (Subhanahu wa Ta’ala) save us all)
Many illegal acts are conducted in these ceremonies &
functions, one is the use of Video Cameras. No one is safe from
these Video Cameras. Especially women who are ordered by
ALLAH (Subhanahu wa Ta’ala) to conceal themselves get caught in
these recording and are glanced by everyone who view these
recordings and hence it becomes Gunah - e - Jaariyya earning
continuous anger of ALLAH (Subhanahu wa Ta’ala).
As the famous Hadith states,
“ Looking at NAA – MAHRAM is Zina of eyes, hearing a NAA –
MAHRAM is Zina of ears, touching a NAA – MAHRAM is
Zina of hands & walking towards NAA – MAHRAM is
Zina of legs. ”
is perfectly and practically implemented at these ceremonies &
functions. All these immodest and indecent acts day by day are
corrupting our minds and creating impurities in our hearts and have

ruined our lives. Immodest dresses, indecent ways of behavior have
all become common at these ceremonies & functions.
“ Marriage is Sunnah & also a means of safeguarding ones

Marriages today, completely contradict the laws of Shariah &
have become the means of spreading Immodesty in the whole
society ”

Co - education
Another major cause for immodesty is the system of co - education.
This system of education completely contradicts the ways and
commands of Shariah. It is nothing but the name of education used to
teach immodesty and indecency to the children at the very beginning
stages of their life. And we Muslims feel proud sending our children’s
to such type schools and colleges. Especially young girls who are
commanded to conceal themselves are sent to such schools and then
further to colleges just to get them a mere degree. In one classroom
you will find boys and girls sitting together without any Hijaab. It is
at this very tender age mutual interaction and intermingling of sexes
is encouraged which is the root cause for every evil that is prevailing
in society. It is at these schools and colleges that relations are
developed with NAA MAHRAM in the name of “ friendship ”. All
such types of relations are strictly considered Haraam in ISLAM
and these relations further lead to may more Haraam acts. Let it be
very much clear that in ISLAM there is no relation as such called “
friendship” due to which the NAA MAHRAM become
MAHRAM. These are all the ways of people who, to fulfill their

base desires & to spread immodesty in the society invented these
types of relationships & the system of co - education.
As we see that it has become a common routine of every
school and college to organize a trip yearly in the name of picnic.
These trips are enjoined with music, singing & dancing which is
completely against the Divine Laws of Shariah. As this Hadith
clearly states,
“ Music nourishes hypocrisy as water nourishes the field. ”
In the name of extra curriculum activities singing and dancing are
taught and further boys and girls are encouraged to perform on stages
in the functions organized by their schools & colleges. And thus the
robe of HAYA (Modesty & Shame) is stripped off and indeed
IMAAN at the very early stage of life. Those who reprimand this
state of affair and point out that these acts contradict the rules of
Shariah are dismissed as old - fashioned, even when they base their
arguments from Qur’aan & authentic texts of Hadith. May
ALLAH (Subhanahu wa Ta’ala) grant us sense & help us to follow
True religion.

Marketing & Shopping
Another act that is encouraging immodest is the women going out in
the markets for shopping and marketing. This act of shopping and
marketing is completely forbidden for women except in some
exceptional cases. Today Muslim women go out in the market
wearing perfumes, immodest dresses and without Purda, creating an
environment of immodesty. At one instance when Prophet
(Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) saw the men and women walking
together in the middle of the road, even the women were completely in
Purda but were walking in the middle of the road among men. He
(Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) said,

“ O women step back. You are not allowed to walk in the middle of
the road but from the sideways.”
The narrator of the above Hadith Hadhrat Abu Asad (Radhiallahu
Anhu) said after this advice of Prophet (Sallallaahu Alayhi
Wasallam) the women were seen walking from sideways as if they
would stick to the walls of either sides of the road and sometimes
their clothes would get stuck in these walls. This Hadith clearly
commands women to keep distance from men even when they are in
Purda. What we find today is completely opposite, Muslim women
walking among men freely, few of them in improper Parda and many
without that. It doesn’t end here, they consider the men they come
across in the shops as their MAHRAM and start chatting with
them in sweet and polite voice. Under some unavoidable
circumstances or exceptional cases the women can go out but that too
with complete Purda and also fulfilling the other commands of
Shariah for going out. But as we see there are no such circumstances
or cases except for some women, as the women today posses
everything in excess. Cupboards are full of dresses, lockers are full
with ornaments and everything needed for daily use is present but yet
they accumulate things. It seems as if competition goes on between
women on accumulation of things. These women are completely
unaware of practical & simple ISLAMIC ways of leading life. They
don’t even know that on the day of Qiyaamah they have to give
account of each and every thing they possess before their Creator
ALLAH (Subhanahu wa Ta’ala) and are going to be punished for
such acts except that they repent and seek forgiveness and mend their
ways before death. The same teachings and practices they teach their
daughters and it is this self innovated traditions that is leading us to
darkness.
Let it be very clear that accumulation of things in access is not
only the act of women but men too are no better. And it is no
exception that the men are allowed to do so. As the Shariah has

commanded men to support the family hence they are allowed to go
out. But they are also commanded to do so with Hijaab. For example
they are commanded to lower their gaze in the Qur’aan and this is
the Hijaab for them. If they don’t do so they will be punished except
that they repent and seek forgiveness and mend their ways before
death overtakes them.
It is not only the matter in markets but you’ll find Muslim
men and women in parks, restaurants etc acting completely against
the rules of Shariah.

Modernization & Fashion
ISLAM is a practical religion which encourages simple living and
teaches simplicity. The word “fashion” holds no meaning in ISLAM.
This word which has no concern in our religion has influences us so
much that our simple living have turned complex. This complex living
in turn is termed as modernization today. We Muslims today feel
proud wearing semi naked, immodest, indecent clothes and think that
this is fashion & modernization. These concepts have attacked our
IMAAN and we Muslims have accepted these concepts and are
leading our lives accordingly. Let’s understand it with this simple
example of Burqa. Firstly what does Burqa mean ? It is a kind of
barrier between men and women and it’s a cloth used by women to
conceal themselves completely from head to toe. But as we are living
in the so called modern age and fashionable society our Burqa’s have
also become modern and fashionable. You’ll find colourful, glittering,
well designed, tight fitting, thin clothed and many more types of
Burqa’s. Something used to safeguard the women’s HAYA
(Modesty & Shame) by concealing her body have become the medium
of displaying it more attractively. What is all this, modernization or

fashion? My dear Muslims it is just a trap set to change the meaning
of Burqa and indeed the code of conducts set by Shariah.
As we have come across some of the Divine revelations and
blessed words of Prophet (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam). What do
we find? Do these things anywhere exist in Shariah? But in turn we
get the reply that it is nothing but all the immodest & indecent acts
termed collectively in two words i.e. modernization and fashion.
And a Muslim can neither be immodest nor indecent.

Newspapers, novels & magazines are today are playing vital role in
corrupting the society. In the name of news all indecent posters are
printed. No newspapers gains popularity until it contains a section of
indecent pictures and articles. Novels and magazines are spreading
indecent literature in the name of articles and stories. Everyone wants
to read news and every one wants to know what is happening around
the world but forgetting one’s own self and the people in concerned.
Our children too are getting addicted to these newspapers and
magazines. The clean minds of children are flooded with all indecent
thoughts that literally destroy their thinking and take them away
from good deeds. What can we expect from such children who have
grown up in this kind of environment? They will be completely in
darkness as from the very tender age they are reading this novels,
newspapers and magazine full of indecent literature and pictures, as
children’s are too quick to imitate.
