Subject: Letter of Recommendation for Nomar Rodriguez

1. I highly recommend Nomar Rodriguez to your Internship program. Nomar is an intelligent, resourceful young
man who has a strong desire to work in the Aerospace field as a programmer. I’ve known Nomar for six years. He
has been a three year member of my FIRST LEGO League competition teams and has currently has participated
three years on my high school FIRST Robotics Team 597 HOF, SkillsUSA and President of my schools MESA (Math,
Science, Engineering & Achievement) and a two year member of my Manufacturing, Robotics & Engineering
Academy. Nomar’s participation in Robotics and MESA has allowed him to acquire workplace competency skills
such as problem solving, critical thinking skills, time management, team work, presentation skills, information
accessing, resource allocation and habits of minds (think like a scientist or engineer). Moreover, he has been
learning skill sets such as the Engineering Design Process, CAD, Systems Engineering, Programming robots in Java,
electronics, wiring and pneumatic systems.

2. Nomar has expressed a strong desire to pursue a career as an Electrical Engineer or possibly in Computer
Science. He is a pleasant young man who gets along with anyone. Nomar is honest, works extremely hard, and
not afraid to ask questions. He has been the student lead programmer on our FIRST Robotics team the last two
years and is responsible for training new student programmers. Nomar completed a summer internship in 2016
with a small company called GSI Solutions. He and several other students from our FIRST Robotics Team were
challenged to reverse engineer kitchen appliances and find ways to make the appliances more efficient and
economical under the guidance of adult mentors throughout the entire summer. Also, Nomar and several of his
FIRST Robotics peers were selected by the Los Angeles Unified School District to help the district design, prototype,
manufacture, and build ADA compliant portable access ramps so people in wheel chairs can access LAUSD stages
and dwellings that were built before 1992 and design a smart cane so those people who are sight impaired can
navigate inside LAUSD building and find offices or rooms using RFID tags that are strategically placed inside those
buildings that will provide the end user with location information.

3. This young would be a good fit for your internship program. I highly recommend him as an internee.

Sincerely,

Darryl Newhouse
