Dear Liza,
Hope you are well.
Thanks a lot for your invitation to the party on Friday. We haven’t seen (add “each other”) for
ages and I’ve been dreaming to see you. But, unfortunately, I’m not able to visit it. (as much as I
would love to be at the party, I’m afraid I won’t be able to make it)
My grandmother broke her leg and cannot move (has been bedridden for the past few days). She
fell down from (off) a ladder in her country house and, occasionally (accidentally), damaged
(sustained an injury to ) her left leg (specify! did she tear a ligament? sprained an ankle?
dislocated a joint?). Now, she isn’t allowed to move (has to wear a splint to immobilize the
injured leg and aid the recovery) and has to lie in her bed for better recovery for the next 2
weeks (which means she will have to stay in bed for two weeks). I hope you see that I cannot
leave my grandmother to have a fun with friends. Of course, if the reason wasn’t so serious, I
wouldn’t miss a chance to get together. I’m sure you’ll have a great time.
Well, my mother is returning from her holiday in 5 days and I’ll have more free time. If you
don’t have any plans, we can hang out and walk (go for a stroll) around a (the) city as we love (I
know we both enjoy it immensely).
Have a nice party (Have a blast/ have a whale of a good time at the party).
See you soon,

Insight
Special focus on: Extending the range of vocabulary and grammar.
Add C1 grammar structures (a conditional
sentence, inversion, a cleft-sentence, complex
comparatives). Try to use less common lexical
items, this can be achieved by providing a more
detailed description and paraphrasing common
words.
