My passion for media production first started in 2005, and has stuck with me and

even grown throughout my time at Worcester State. I started creating videos after
watching behind the scenes features of some my favorite films, like Star Wars. I fell in
love with the practical ‘movie magic’ that could be created with film. With the help of
my sister and cousins, we together created parody videos of some of our favorite
childhood movies. This would later involve into just myself with a camera, coming home
every day after school and filming outside. I also started to edit my videos with a simply
editor on my computer, into little stories to share with friends. During high school, the
principle for my senior year noticed my passion for creating videos, so he assigned me to
create a promotional video for our school to be shown on the front page of the high
schools website. This was my first time getting paid to make videos, and definitely
motivated me to pursue a degree in communications. This was almost my first time
working on my own to create a video, I did all the shooting and editing, and also had to
set up interviews with my teachers. Working on this video was a big learning experience
for me, but in the end taught me a lot about the process of production.
When it came time for me to pick a college, I choose to go to Worcester State to
persuade a degree in communications to gain more experience in media production. I
enrolled in any class I could that involved video work, which included intro to video
production, TV production, video editing, etc. These classes allowed me to better my
skills at filmmaking and editing, as while as learning new things like script formatting
and what elements make up a good compositional shot. Being at Worcester State also
gave me opportunities I typically would not have, like being able to travel to Worcester
England and London to create videos. The experience gathered from traveling to another
country to make videos was definitely one of my better memories while at school.
For work, I would really want a job that requires creative thinking within media
production. I love all parts of production equally including scripting, filming, and editing.
But for the most part, filming and editing is where my true passion lies. After I graduate
in May, I will be applying for businesses and production warehouses that are looking for
new employees. My hope is that during the rest of the current semester and spring
semester, I will build out more of my portfolio. I hope to be including capstone within my
portfolio too, once everything is all set and done.
