I was captivated by the popular television music competition ‘The X Factor’ from a

very young age. It was the incalculable performances and decisions from both the
judges and contestants that kept me enthralled. My constant desire to watch each
series resulted in me attaining an arising fascination with television personalities and
further lead to my curiosity as to what is involved in the job description of a television
presenter. It was not long after attending a live broadcasting of ‘The X Factor’ when I
knew confidently that I wanted to pursue a career, which involved standing ahead of
the camera.

When selecting my GCSE courses, I noticed I was particularly drawn to creative sub-
jects. All of my chosen courses encouraged innovative thinking which later adapted
and strengthened my creative streak. Throughout these courses, I also gained a variety
of skills including; excellent communication and public speaking, which were further,
enhanced through my participation in the NCS citizenship program where I pitched
and presented my ideas for a charity fundraiser event.
I also obtained a vast amount confidence and improved my time management skills
through my Drama course, which involved working towards multiple deadlines. Me-
dia Studies was another one of the extra GCSE’s I had chosen. This subject was most
effective as it provided me with the main skill requirements for Journalism. Whilst
studying this subject, I was selected to be a Media Senior. This meant I would be as-
sisting in extra curriculum activities, such as: making displays for the department,
Working on extracts in the school newspaper and also putting together assembly pre-
sentations and videos for teachers. This was great experience as it enhanced my edit-
ing skills and familiarity with different software as well as providing me with differ-
ent filming and writing techniques.

During secondary school, I also took part in a program called ‘Into University’ this
program was held outside of school in a private centre. They had many mentors who
provided me with academic support and ran programs and interviews with individuals
from different professional fields. Into University helped me think about my career
options and It was after completing this I decided that I wanted to study Journalism at
university. As well as ‘Into University’, I also attended the ‘Italia Conti Academy of
Theatre Arts’ which is a prestigious educational institution based in London. At this
academy I decided to participate in the drama courses, as I believed that working and
performing with new people would heighten my team working skills and also give me
more practise with scripts. This academy did exactly that. Through each of the
courses I was able to conquer my fear of performing before the camera. And I found
that their unique training techniques enabled me to think and work spontaneously
whilst producing good quality work. At Italia Conti most of the tasks involved spon-
taneous improvisation where I was given the challenge of symbolising different world
topics, which I am passionate about, for example one of the pieces I created, was
based on September 11 attacks. This course also enhanced my independent research-
ing skills providing me with many methods of researching.

When transferring to college I decided to pick Creative Media Production & Technol-
ogy Level 3. Unlike A- levels this course was very hands on and consisted of not only
writing based tasks but also practical tasks, for example making short documentaries.
All of my work was to be presented in an online portfolio, I was also asked to demon-
strate blogging through each of my posts. My first year involved a variety of practical
tasks. This meant I had access to lots of equipment similar to what is used in a profes-
sional setting. Again, this was an advantage for me as I now had practise of indepen-
dently running a blog site and I also enhanced my general knowledge on cameras,
editing and audio equipment, thus preparing me before I enter the university.

During the summer, I participated in a Video Journalism course (which I located on-
https://wellcomecollection.org/) this allowed me to practise using different sources of mod-
ern technology, for example I was provided with a variety of apple products includ-
ing; iPads and iPhones which were to be used in order to film with. My task was to
discuss a topic which I am passionate about. I decided to base my video on my expe-
riences with travelling. After attending this Seminar I was inspired to begin blogging
and I am currently focusing on travel Video blogging through YouTube. In general, I
am very interested and passionate about travelling and exploring and understanding
different lifestyle, cultures and religions and also meeting new people whilst doing
this. During my recent travels to Dominican Republic and Haiti I was able capture
incredible photos and I also grasped an understanding of their lifestyles through visit-
ing the rural parts of the country. In the future I hope to venture out to more locations
and I am also considering taking part in the study abroad scheme whilst in university.

I am also very interested in spoken word (Spoken word is a an oral art that focuses on
the aesthetics of word play and intonation and voice inflection).and enjoy watching
theatre productions in my free time, my favourite being the ‘Scottsboro Boys’ which
is an emotional performance based on a trial of nine African American teenagers
wrongly accused in Alabama of raping two white women on a train in 1931. Overall, I
am a highly motivated, self- disciplined, dedicated, proactive and enthusiastic indi-
vidual with outstanding communication skills and work ethic. I can contribute and
undertake any facilities in a variety of situations. I am also very ambitious which I
believe is one of the main qualities that are critical in order to sustain a successful
university experience. And the prospect of studying such a stimulating and dynamic
course genuinely excites me.
