INSTRUCTIONS TO STUDENTS

1. This assignment contains question that is set in English.

2. Answer in English only.

3. Learners are to submit assignment only in MsWord format unless specified otherwise. Please
refrain from converting text/phrases into picture format such as .gif / .jpeg / print screen / etc.

4. Download the language version of the assignment template concerned from the myINSPIRE for
preparation and submission of your assignment. Your assignment should be typed using 12
point Times New Roman font and 1.5 line spacing.

5. Your assignment should be between 3000 to 5000 words excluding references. The number of
words should be shown at the end of your assignment. Do not copy the assignment question
and instructions to your answer. Only assignment answer developed within the approximate
word limit will be assessed. The number of words should be shown at the end of your
assignment.

6. Submission of assignment:
a. Face-to-face Class Student:
You MUST submit a softcopy of your assignment online through myINSPIRE and a
hardcopy to your facilitator.
b. Online student:
You MUST submit a softcopy of your assignment via myINSPIRE and another softcopy to
the facilitator via e-mail.

7. You can submit your assignment ONCE only in a SINGLE file.

8. Your assignment must be submitted starting from 23rd November 2018 until 25th November
2018. Submission after 25th November 2018 will NOT be accepted.

9. Your assignment should be prepared individually. You should not copy another person’s
assignment. You should also not plagiarise another person’s work as your own.

10. Please take note that PENALTY will be imposed on late submission of assignment as specified in
the Registrar’s Office circular 6/2012 (Refer to Registrar’s Announcement in myINSPIRE).
11. Please ensure that you keep the RECEIPT issued upon submisson of your assignment as proof of
submission. Your assignment is considered as NOT submitted if you fail to produce the
submission receipt in any dispute arises concerning assignment submission.

EVALUATION

This assignment accounts for 60% of the total marks for the course and shall be assessed based on
the Rubrics attached.

You would be given feedback on the assignment before the Final Semester Examination commences.

ASSIGNMENT QUESTION

OBJECTIVE:

The aim of this mini project is to provide students with the opportunity to practice a counselling skill
to children in classroom. Students will be exposed to the scientific approach of gathering information
and reporting it. By doing this, students will be able to reflect on their understanding and practices of
play therapy on children.

MINI PROJECT:
This assignment will be marked in 3 areas:
1. Group work: 20% (students will be given individual marks based on participation in group
discussions and tasks – Rubric 1)
2. Presentation: 20% (students will be given a group mark based on the presentation skills and
creativity – Rubric 2)
3. Report: 20% (students will be given individual marks based on individual report – Rubric 3)

1. Group work (20%)


You will be assigned to a group of 3 to 4 students. You need to discuss with your group members on
how to go about doing the assignment in a platform prepared for you in the MyInspire, or you may
create your group WhatsApp but you need to attached your conversations in your report [from
WhatsApp conversation> tap Menu icon (three vertical dots)>More>Email chat – email to yourself
and attached the file]. There will be marks for teamwork (refer Rubric 1).

Requirements:

Step 1: Pre-observation
You or your group members are required to observe a preschool child of aged 4 to 6 years old. Select
a child that you think needs to undergo play therapy session. Kindly ensure to get the permission
from the school as well as the parent (s) for this purpose.

Step 2: Practice of Play Therapy


Choose an appropriate approach of a play therapy. Exercise the approach with the child for a period
of time. You may want to exercise the approach more than once.
Step 3: Post-observation
After the play therapy session(s), you are required to observe the child again in his/her classroom
setting. Note any different in his/her behaviour.

2. Presentation (20%)

Each group needs to present the following (upload in YouTube and share the link in MyInspire):
a) How the pre-observation was done?
b) How the counselling session was done?
c) How the post-observation was done?
d) Other relevant info

3. Report (20%)
Step 5: Reporting
You are to write a report on the project thoroughly. The report should include (not limited to) the
following:
a) Introduction – the background of your study, purpose and flow of data collection
b) Content –
i. Report what you observed in pre-observation
ii. The justification of selecting the child and support.
iii. The justification for choosing the type of play therapy and support.
iv. The descriptions of the therapy chosen, and cite.
v. Report what you observed in post-observation
vi. Reflection on your practice – whether or not it is successful, and justify, support and cite.

Points to note:
a. Students are not expected to be an expert in counselling and to solve the problem of the
selected child.
b. Students are only expected to learn and experience how counselling sessions are done in
preschools and how play therapy helps children to behave better.
c. Students are free to choose to observe a single child or 3 different children individually
(discuss in your group).
d. Students are free to combine videos of presentation or to have separate individual video
(discuss in your group).
e. Students are free to choose how to go about doing the assignment as long as the end
product should be in video form for presentation and written form for the report (discuss in
your group).
