Okonkwo’s gun caused harm to both himself and his family such as his wife and his son.

In the story in chapter 13, Okonkwo’s gun is accidentally shoots the Ezeudu’s sixteen year old
son in the great funeral of Ezeudu. This make the Ezeudu’s son death. The villagers atone
Okonkwo and his family into exile for seven years. Okonkwo’s decided to gathers his valuable
things and go to his mother village. In addition, the event that Okonkwo accidentally killed
Ezeudu’s son make the men from Ezeudu’s quarter decided to burn Okonkwo’s building and kill
his animal to clean his sin out of the village. The gun has been use to symbolizes Okonkwo’s
masculinity because the gun can use to make other people to be under control of him.
Furthermore, his gun make others people such as his wife and his son fear and afraid of him.
This make other people do only the things that he wants or following him. Gun is the way that
Okonkwo use to control other people. The reason that Okonkwo was not punished for
attempting to shoot Ojiugo is because Ojiugo is his wife and be a woman. In the period that
story happen, men have a right to punished his wife if she doing something wrong or cause him
concern.
