Introduction

This is my classroom management portfolio that I created to

help me prepared for my classroom. In this, I will share ways that I

will implement and use classroom management procedures. I want to

do my best to follow these procedures to help me start every school

year out strong. My grade level that I am planning for is 2nd grade

and will apply toward all subjects. I want to encourage, motivate

and engage my students in their learning environment.

Philosophical Statement

As an educator, I want to support and enlighten all students

that

enter my classroom. I want to help mold and shape their

impressionable minds that are eager to learn, with or without

educational difficulties. I want to create a safe and friendly

classroom community that helps students feel a sense of ownership.

I want to build a relationship with each of my students. This will

help me have a solid understanding of who my students are. I want

to have a place where students are excited to learn new ideas and

concepts. I want each student to feel confident through their

experiences of success in the classroom. I believe that effective

teaching involves collaborative relationship between the students

and teacher. This is why I know it is important to have classroom

management in place from the beginning.

First Day

 I will be waiting at the door to greet all students as they enter

the classroom.

 As the students enter they will pull a color dot from the
bucket and go match their color with a pencil with that color
that is on a desk. Once they find their color they sit at that
desk.

 After students sits down they are to start filling out their “My
Favorites” worksheet.

 After morning announcements, I will introduce myself to the

students. We will play the “name game” (they tell me their name
and favorite color and I have to repeat it after one time
around), this is for me to get to know their names.

 After the name game, we will play the “M&M game” to help
students get to know each other. Students will have of pack
of M&M’s on their desk. We will go around the room, students
pull out an M&M and whatever color they have, they answer
that question. Once they answer the question they get to eat
the M&M

 After the game, I will take time to go over class and school
procedures.
 After we have gone over all procedures we will go to lunch.

 After Lunch, we will put away all school supplies and place all
student’s material in their cubbies

 Next, I will pass out red take home folders and place all school
forms, meet the teacher form, and parent survey inside folder.

 Next, students will line up for dismissal of class.

 I hope to have a friendly, warm, and inviting atmosphere for

the students in the classroom. I hope this will help them to be

ready to learn and able to focus. This set up will help give the

space needed for learning during all parts of the day. Easy to

transition from one space to the next during instructional

setting.

 As a teacher, I will have good organizational skills that will

help me stay prepared and focused. This will not only be

beneficial for me, but for the students as well. This will also be

a benefit to the organization of the classroom environment.

Classroom Policies/Procedures

 This is what you do when you……

1. Enter the classroom: Line up outside the classroom door and prepare to be
greeted by the teacher. Enter the classroom respectfully and quietly; follow
the appropriate procedures for the time of day.

– In the morning: Put your personal items in your locker/cubby before lining up.
After being greeted by teacher, enter the classroom and place homework
folder in homework bin and sit at your desk.

– After recess: Enter the classroom and immediately sit at desk.

– After lunch: Enter the classroom and place your head on desk. Take a “chill
pill” (some needed calm and relaxing time) while your teacher reads aloud.

2. Lining up: After being dismissed, stand up quietly and push in your chair.
Respect others personal space and keep your hands to yourself. If you are line
leader for the week, you will be dismissed first so that you may take your place
at the head of the line.

3. Preparing for Lunch: Wait quietly at your desk until the teacher asks for
students having cold lunch to get their things. Silently go out to your
locker/cubby, get your lunch, and line up. If you have hot lunch, wait quietly at
your desk until you are dismissed. Collect your lunch ticket and line up.

4. Sitting on the carpet: Sit “criss-cross applesauce”, hands in lap, and eyes on
the teacher. Sit in assigned color square. Leave personal space between
yourself and your neighbors.
5. Need to use the bathroom: You may not use the restroom during class
discussions and lectures. If you need to use the restroom during other times of
the day, use the appropriate bathroom signal (see signals) to ask
permission. After the teacher acknowledges you with a nod or shake of the
head, you may quietly get up from your seat, and then take the bathroom pass.
There is only one boy and one girl bathroom pass.

6. Need a pencil: You will begin each day with two sharpened pencils. If you for
some reason need a new one during the day, quietly go get a new pencil from
the pencil bucket.

7. Have a question: Respectfully raise your hand and use the proper hand signal
and wait on teacher to call on you.

8. Handing in finished work: Make sure your name is on the paper. Place it in
the “RED” basket.

9. Handing in unfinished work: If you have not completed your assignment

during the time allowed, place work with your name on it, in the “BLUE”
basket. It will be sent home with you as homework that night.

10. Finish your work early: Chose a book and read quietly. Do not disturb your
classmates.

11. Need a drink from water fountain: You will not get drinks during class
discussions and lectures. During other times of the school day, use appropriate
hand signal and wait for dismissal from teacher.

12. Attendance and Lunch Count: Quietly sit in your desk

while attendance and lunch count is taken for the day.

13. Morning Announcements: When morning announcements come on make

sure and stand and listen quietly, to get ready to say the pledge of allegiance.
Once completed sit down quietly and listen to final announcements.

13. Fire bell rings: When you hear the fire drill, immediately STOP what you are
doing. Silently line up at the appropriate exit. Wait for teacher to do a
headcount of students. Walk quietly to a designated safe area. Sit “crisscross
applesauce” with your hands in your lap. You may talk quietly with your
neighbor until the fire drill is over.

 Non-Verbal Signals:
Classroom management is the glue that holds everything together
on educating and it is important to have so you do not spend all
your time disciplining, but teaching. This is an opinion that I whole-
heartedly agree with. It is for this reason that I am passionate about
incorporating non-verbal signals into my classroom routine. Students
will receive explicit instruction on what these signals are and how
they are used during the first week of school.

1. “Give me Five:” When I say, “Give me 5” and put a hand up, the
students will understand that this is a signal for their
undivided attention and follow by raising each of their hands,
with eyes on the teacher.

2. “Eyes on Me”- When I chant “One, Two, Three, Eyes on Me,” the
students will then reply, “One, Two, Eyes on You!” This is a signal to
stop, look, and listen.

2. Use of a “Noise-O-Meter” illustrated to students what noise

level is acceptable at any given point of the school day.
https://heathermabery82.wordpress.com/

4. I will use hand signals for students to use to not interrupt any
part of instruct throughout the day.

System

 Sometimes students need to have a cool down period.

Sometimes they may be a little frustrated or overwhelmed,
which can affect their emotions. I want to help teach
students they can cool down anywhere. It would be great to
always have a cool down corner, but you cannot always take
the corner with you to specials, recess, or cafeteria. If I help
students to realize they can cool down anywhere, this will help
them to take it with them when they are feeling overwhelmed
with frustrating feelings.

 I want student to create their own expectations for our

classroom. I want the class to come up with their own rules of
what the class will follow and respect. When doing this, as a
class, I want them to feel a since of community. Even though
class dojo is being used there has to be consequences in place
in case it is not enough of an incentive.

Relating Lessons to Students’ Lives

 Whether it is counting chocolate chips for math, choosing

short stories about your town, tying in the president with

Printables, students will care more if they identify themselves
or their everyday lives in what they’re learning.

 Improves behavior and attention

 Better academic performance
 Strengthens classroom cohesion
 Amazing and useful technology that is super easy to use,
beautifully designed, and crazy engaging. A must use tool for
any classroom.

 Think-Pair-Share -This activity is a great way for students to

be able to pause and process what they have just learned. Ask
the class a question that they must first consider by
themselves then give them the opportunity to discuss it with
their neighbor. Once they’ve discussed the question, students
are then invited to share their answers with the class. By giving
them this time, you are enabling them to be more engaged in
their learning.

 Gallery Walk- This is another great activity that will keep your
students engaged and their energy level high. After having
your students write or draw their responses, and have a
Gallery Walk and allow your students to look around the room
and see other students’ responses. Because students seek
approval from their peers they will put more effort into the
exercise. www.readinghorizons.com
