SUMMARY
A detailed geotechnical investigation for MOT was performed by East China prospecting, design &
research institute of CNPC as instructed by ADCOP project. This investigation report is the
description for the content of the geotechnical investigation for MOT.
Abu Dhabi crude oil pipeline project (ADCOP) is from HABSHAN on the west, crossing SWEIHAN
to FUJAIRAH on the east. It crosses Abu Dhabi, Shairjah, Al Ain, Fujaisah. The total length of the
proposed pipeline is 371KM, and the pipe diameter is 1220mm (48”). 4 stations were designed
The proposed MOT site is located on the coast about 2km away from the north of FUJAIRAH.(See
Map 2-1), and mountain is on its west and sea is on its east (see Map 2-1).The main proposed
structures are eight oil storage tanks of 110m diameter and 20m height each which will have
capacity of 1Million Barrel (ie 159000 m3) for each tank, facilities and other structures etc. For the
detailed proposed structures and investigation points, refer to drawing 2-2.
6. GEOLOGY CONDITION
6.1NATURAL ENVIRONMENT
For Fujairah area, the annual average shade temperature is 20~45℃.The highest temperature can
Sandstorms are common in this area. From june to November, the prevailing wind direction is E-SE,
from November to May, the prevailing wind direction is W-NW,and the max. gust wind speed is
160km/hr.
According to UBC standard (UNIFORM BUILDING CODE), Fujairah area belongs to seismic zone
of Zone 2A
6.2LAYER CHARACTER
According to the investigation information, the site strata are composed of alluvial and proluvial
deposit of Quaternary and bedrock.
Except the single mountain in Tank-1505 and the mountain on the west of process area,
Quaternary deposit (Qsb)distributes all over the site.
This layer is mainly composed of carbonate silt, sand, gravel, and clay etc.,and lots of shells can be
seen. Because the deposit period is short and the influence of unstable deposit condition, this layer
6.2.2 BEDROCK
Within the investigation depth, the underlying bedrock can be divided into 2 layers, that is
sandstone, mudstone, conglomerate, calcarenite formed in Tertinary and Quaternary and gabbro
formed in Cretaceous (K). It is described as follows:
Its color mostly is brown,or mollted. This layer is slightly weathered, and generally distributes in the
site.
The main component of sandstone, mudstone and conglomerate is quartz and carbonate etc, and it
contains shell and gabbro chipping. It is mainly calcareous or siliceous cemented.
③ GABBRO
6.3GROUNDWATER
The groundwater in the site is Phreatic water of Quaternary and fissure water in bedrock, which has
close relationship with sea water from Aman gulf . Its supply mainly comes from groundwater runoff,
and the amount of water is rich. Its drainage mainly is evaporation and groundwater runoff. The
water level in the whole site is stable. During investigation, for the embedded depth of groundwater
and its elevation, refer to Table 6.3-1.
7. FOUNDATION RECOMMENDATION
7.1DESIGN PARAMETERS
The geotechnical parameters in Table 7.1-1~9 are recommended for foundation design.
