Consider how each of these skills may enhance your performance, and allow you to develop and advance further. You may wish to discuss
these with your advisor of studies. Alternatively, you may wish to ask a friend or family member, and to compare and discuss your separate
findings.
Once you have rated yourself, multiply the number in the column marked ‘Competence’ with that in the column ‘Job Importance’. So, for
example, if you feel that you are not very proficient in verbal and written communication (i.e. you have rated your competence at 4), but that
these skills are very important for employment (i.e. you have rated it at 5), then your overall total score would be 5 X 4 = 20.

3 4 12 I have the capability to express myself in different types
Ability to express self well in writing of form of writing and being able to change the styles and
fonts, by using them on these type of documents such as,
word document, presentation (adding images and
different fonts to it) to make it look more presentable and
intriguing, and I have some experience in doing
spreadsheets on Excel by producing tables, chart and
graphs and creating leaflets and booklets on word
document.
Verbal:
Informal – ability to network easily 3 4 12 I am able to use emails, text messages and able to build a
with other people conversation between an individual of what the subject
matter is about and what opinions we have to communicate
with each other. I’m confident in using these type of
techniques because I have used emails and text messages
before and it’s appropriate for my chosen career and it’s
one of the most important skill to have.
Formal – ability to express yourself 4 5 20 I don’t have as much confidence in myself to speak in
clearly and concisely to a group of front of a large group, but I do have some experience in
people standing in front of a small group and communicating in
front of them, such as representing a presentation or what
we have learnt in the lesson at college. But I do feel I’m
not confident as much to be able to communicate and stand
up in front of a large group of people and I can express
myself clearly and loudly but just not self-assured of
myself.
Non-verbal:
Listening – ability to attend actively to 3 5 15 I think that I have suitable and appropriate listening skills
others’ views and ideas and understand because it’s very important to note things down and what
their point of view is being told, as then I’ll be prepared of what needs to be
done from me and what is required. It’s a very important
skill to have for my chosen career because you have to get
an accurate understanding of what needs to be taken notice
of, in order to be able to recognise other people’s point of
views.
Body Language – ability to match body 4 5 20 I think I am capable to express myself sometimes through
language appropriately to what is being of doing body language because I fairly use any gestures
said verbally or any facial expressions but I do keep eye contact with
the individual I am communicating to and stand up in a
suitable posture whilst speaking. This skills is essential for
my job role of a business analyst because you need to be
able to demonstrate any body movement or facial
expressions of speaking to other people, so they are able to
understand of what message you are trying to say and for
them to be able to receive it correctly and being able to
respond back.
WORKING WITH OTHERS
Cooperation
Ability to collaborate effectively within 3 4 12 I am capable of working as a team or in a group, but I’m
a team not as much confident of being able to communicate of
what needs to be said depending on the topic we need to
speak about. This skill is fairly important for my chosen
career because you need to be able to work in a team
effectively and being able to cooperate with them, in order
to get feedback of what is being said and how to improve
that solution further.
Negotiation
Ability to reach a mutually satisfactory 4 4 16 I have some capabilities of being able to reach the
outcome through compromise satisfaction outcome through involvement because I am
able to compromise within the group and try to give of my
thoughts and opinions are but I might not as much
confident in doing this particular skill. This skill is quite
important for my job role of becoming a business analyst
because you need to be able to understand of what other
people are saying and try to respond back of their is any
problems that would be need solving for improvement.
Sensitivity
Ability to respond appropriately to 3 5 15 I have the ability to respond back to other individuals
individual differences, e.g., age, gender, differences and what my opinions are but I can be quite
etc. nervous of doing so but this is a important skills for a
business analyst because whilst working in teams and
people are giving their thoughts out of what they think will
be right, you have to be able to retaliate and respond back
if that solution is accurate or inaccurate of what the topic is
about.
Leadership
Ability to encourage and motivate 3 4 12 I have the potential to motivate and encourage other people
others in a positive aspect of what will be the right solution but I
wouldn’t be able to give as much only something that can
guide them as I could be incorrect but this specific skills
will be important for a business analyst because people
would need some motivation and self confidence that they
are doing the right thing, as long they think positively
about the situation.

others because I haven’t done any supervision or direct people on
their work but this skills will be fairly essential of the role
of a business analyst because it’s not required within this
specific role or as one of their responsibilities to uphold.
Ability to evaluate competing priorities 3 4 12 I feel that I am capable to assess of prioritising plans for
to plan ahead the future, in order to reach and accomplish towards that
goal. This will required of the role of a business analyst
because it benefits the business of being able to assess and
evaluate arrangements that need to be planned further
ahead for the company being able to be stable and
knowing what needs to be developed, which will be an
advantage towards the business.
APPLICATION OF NUMBER
Calculations
Ability to use a calculator or PC to 3 5 15 I have the ability to work out calculations on a PC or being
make calculations able to use a calculator, as I am experienced in this type of
skill. This will be important for a business analyst because
as part of the role their is a financial side to it of being
capable of doing the accounting part of the job role, by
deciphering numbers.
Interpretation
Ability to interpret descriptive statistics, 4 3 12 I am quite experienced in this skill, but I am not as
e.g. ratios percentages, means, standard confident in doing it but it’s fairly important for my job
deviations role in the future because it’s not partially required within
of what a business analyst does and they don’t involve that
much maths into it. You might have to calculate
percentages of the performance on the business.
Ability to interpret inferential statistics, 4 3 12 I don’t have as much experience in this because I am not
e.g., confidence intervals, statistical confident to interpret statistics but it’s not essential for the
significance, effect size job role of a business analyst because it’s not included of
what they need to do for the accounting side of it.
Application
Ability to organise and present 3 4 12 I have experience in this and I am capable of organising
numerical data in an appropriate manner and arranging numerical data in a suitable manner to make
it look presentable. This skill is quite important for a
business analyst role because whilst representing databases
to other individuals it will have to be in an appropriate
manners.
INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY
File Management Techniques
Ability to create, store and retrieve files 3 4 12 I have the ability to create, store and redeem files because I
am equipped in this specific skill, as I have arranged and
produced files before. This skills will be fairly important
for a business analyst because if your asked to create and
redeem a file on a PC you have to know the skill, in order
to achieve this.
Word Processing (e.g. MS Word)
Ability to use a word processing (WP) 3 3 9 I am able to use a word processor of creating, editing and
package to produce a variety of formats printing documents out, as I am potentially capable of
of documents doing this specific skill. It would be quite important for the
job role I would like to do because if I am asked to use a
word processor and have experience in this, I will know of
what needs to be accomplished from me.
Spreadsheets (e.g., MS Excel)
Ability to use a spreadsheet to record 3 4 12 I am experienced in this from college because I have

The evidence of these type of skills, is that I have done them at college and school and developed my skill from there.

In formal, these are the types of skills I am able to do and have experience on:
● Able to stand in front of a small amount of audiences and able to communicate in front of them
● Able to represent a presentation, such as mentioning a topic of what I have learnt in the lesson
● Able to speak in clear and loud voice
The evidence that is provided for this, is from college and school as I have done activities based upon this.

The evidence I have on this, is from college as I have experienced these numerous amount of skills and acted upon them.

The evidence of where I have experienced this, is from college and from school.
Working with others is a skill highly valued by employers. Suitable evidence for this skill need not be limited to work experience. You should
think of all aspects of your work, studies and social life.
I have developed this skills from the organisation I volunteered at Oxfam, college and school.
I have developed and experience these various skills at the workplace I volunteered at which is Oxfam. Also, college, school and work
experience.

The sensitivity skills I require and what I am capable of are:
● Responding back to other people’s differences and what my opinions are
● Able to work in teams and people giving a response back of what they think is right and what’s an advantage on what the topic is about

For this specific skill, I don’t have any evidence on this, as I haven’t developed this particular ability. I would like to improve this further head

on what is required from this.

I have developed these various skills at college, which will help me progress even further in the future of becoming a business analyst, as my
chosen career.
I have progressed the particular skill at college in my tutorials and lessons when I do my assignments of the work I have been set to do.
I have developed the web mails personally because I have my own personal email on hotmail and doing it through college emails as well, so I
know how to use them whilst using college and my own of what the difference is between them both.
I have done this at college and on my personal email to be able to send it towards other people through email of using attachments, which will
help me for my chosen role as a business analyst if I need to send any attachments to workers and be a very useful skill to have.
I have developed this specific skill at college when it comes to doing assignments of topics I need to research to get information and searching
on their student portal of completing activities or related to courseworks and exams.
I have developed this skill from college, which will give me the opportunity to progress further on this skill on my chosen career, if I need to
download any files that are essential and I will be able to improve on this skill of learning new things, as I have experience on it.
The skills that are demanded for this area of what I am experienced on is:
● Able to use google of searching and finding out useful information that needs to be researched thoroughly read to make sure it’s accurate

● Having the ability to use search engines for researching on looking on jobs that are available and viewing online shops
● Knowing how to research coursework, by using google on information that is valuable to have
These ranges of skills that I have experience on is at college when I do assignments for researching different information, depending what topic
needs to be found out.

Creativity - Ability to generate new ideas or conceive existing ideas in a new way
I have evidence on this particular skill where I’m experienced which is:
● Having the potential of coming up with new ideas that might be helpful, whilst working in a team or doing group work
● Having the ability to come up with new solutions to overcome a negative impact on what the topic is based about
● Having the ability to set up new goals long-term and short-term on how to accomplish them and reach towards that objective
I have developed this skill at college of being able to have the opportunity to work in a group of teams on generating new ideas and positive
solutions and able to produce goals for myself of what I would like to achieve in the future and progress it further ahead.
Organisation and Planning - Ability to set down a systematic sequence of activities and carry them through in an effective manner
I have some experience on this at college and that I do in my own time of writing a plan of what I have done throughout the day and what
revision helps me to revise on. I am capable of being organised and prioritise things at college, so I know what I am doing of what is expected
from me to become prepared.
Research - Ability to gather information in a systematic way to establish certain facts or principles
I have experienced this specific skill at college, of researching different Universities to go to on the course I would like to study and on
assignments able to state information of what is an advantage and a disadvantage on a topic I will be doing to get information from.
Analysis - Ability to understand and summarise information (Detailed examination of structure and content)
I have been experienced on these various type of skills at college, of having an understanding from tutors in lessons and taking information down
because it will be essential to know and could be useful.
I have experience on these different ranges of skills based on this area at college, which can help and give me a broader knowledge on how to
become more responsible of taking actions and able to initiate and establish them, as it will be very essential to have in the future for my chosen
career.

future career. Also, having an up to date CV that clearly states my strengths and what specialities I am qualified in

I have developed all of these different skills at college because I have done my CV their, where it’s been kept up to date and accurate and in one
of my assignments I have developed a career plan of my goals I would like to achieve and aim at in the future to overcome them all.

I don’t have as much experience on this particular skill, but I have developed a skill in college of where I am capable of adapting myself in
various different situations.
Reasoning skills – ability to defend argument using logical and systematic thinking based on sound evidence
I am capable of doing these different skills because I have done them at college and at school, where we will be in a group and have individuals
that are for and against. If I was against, I would have the experience on how to argue of defending myself and making sure there is proof of
evidence for this.
Reflection – ability to reflect on and critique own performance
I have some experience on this particular skill of the requirements I am skilful at on being able to get feedback and overcome it in a positive way
and not repeating the same mistake, but this is an area I would like to develop further ahead.
I have experience on this specific area at college because when I get assignments, I make sure I complete it all on time before it’s due and that
it’s accurately done properly. Able to make sure it’s all completed to hand in and prioritising my time carefully to ensure enough effort has been
put into it.

I have gained experience in this skill at college of being able to expand and broaden my knowledge further ahead and having the opportunity to
be accountable for different responsibilities.
I have some experience on this particular skill on being able to find books and search for some information that will be very useful of what I
need. For an example, assignments I might need to get sources of information from articles and books, so I am able to complete that topic of
area.
- Ability to take notes, organize them, and integrate them with other sources of information
The skills I have developed from this area is at college, of being able to prioritise myself of organising time to finish all tasks off before the
deadline date and able to receive different sources of information that will be useful for the assignments and looking back at the notes that have
been written down of what's important.
I have some experience on this particular skill on knowing how to reference websites of using harvard referencing and organising assignments to
get prepare for exams, so I know what will be expected and what needs to be learnt. But I would like to develop this skill further ahead of
learning different ranges of opportunities that are available and will be in use effectively.
